Donkeys cut liquored-up kicker Matt Prater

might be the best kicker in the league, cap has finally gotten to them.

And Manning isn't better than Brady this year.

Gostkowski plays most of his games in Gillette, which is *designed* to be unfriendly to kickers.

Prater played most of his in Denver, whose thin air is inherently kicker-friendly.

OK, DEN replaced someone on suspension (yet again). They used a draft choice to get the replacement. The replacement has worked out well for 3 weeks. DEN decided that it wasn't worth $2M (and $3M next year) to keep someone who is in constant risk of suspension, especially when the replacement has worked out.

As was said, this was a football decision. IMHO, it was a good football decision.

But wait ... I thought that making decisions on these bases was a sign of arrogance? Well, according to the local media anyway.

The Donks didn't have an immediate cap problem. They could have kept Prater. Pure speculation: Prater has a drinking problem that the team suspected was on-going. He's a repeat offender in the substance abuse program and one report I read said that he could have gotten a year suspension. I don't know what all that means, but moving on seems like a rational decision.

Prater attempted a fifty-four yard FG with seven minutes left in the AFCC last year. If he missed it, we're down just thirteen with seven minutes left and the ball on our fourty-four. Of course with the way our defense was playing, probably wouldn't have mattered but it would have been a very surmountable lead at that point had they had a human kicker. Instead he drills it like it was an extra point.

prater needs help, but the broncos abandoned him.
doesn't surprise me. i hate that stupid team. if all else fails, i'll just cheer against manning er i mean denver. lol

^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^

I'm surprised that Denver's bus has any traction left, what with all the players Manning has thrown underneath it since he arrived there.

The above numbers included his presence on the Broncos roster. By releasing him they are creating more cap space.

They probably knew that Kenbrell Thompkins would become available and were freeing up cap space to sign him to a blockbuster deal to give Peyton another "weapon". :)

You've got to love fans that are so stupid that they use phrases to disparage a player without even understanding what those phrases mean. Manning "threw them under the bus" has become such an overused phrase around here that people say it even when there isn't even the slightest bit of context to merit it.

True, but I DO know what it means. In Manning's case, there's at least one example of this from every loss on every team he played with, whether with TN, the Colts or Denver.

Then, in case he's alienated too many players, he'll switch targets and call out the rules, or the refs, etc. Nothing that ever happens to him or his team is ever his fault. It's always someone else's fault. That is, unless they win. Then it's HIS victory.

He learned this from his dad.

And Manning isn't better than Brady this year.
"...this year..." good choice of words. "...through 4 games..." would have been better.

He's not better than Gostkowski.
Maybe, I mean the guy did only miss one field goal it's close. As far as kickers go it doesn't make too much of a difference having Prater or having Gostowski instead.

Talking about next season. While he does give them more flexibility this season the Broncos get like 3.5 mill cap room I believe. Both Thomas' are going to be free agents and expecting to get big bucks.
Cutting Prater now gives the Broncos more flexibility to extend them or franchise one of them.

Teams lose players all the time.

Yeah, but imagine if Prater misses a big kick in the playoffs and we all miss out at another chance for Peyton to blame something on his "liquored up kicker"!

He won't be out of work long.....
