Danny Amendola admits to offseason groin surgery

What history is off? I don't care how many catches he had. He was making big time plays and 2012 Thanksgiving was a serious coming out party that should have put all of his previous big moments into perspective. I don't need to look at a single stat to know what I saw. Edelman was emerging as a super dynamic player before Welker went elsewhere. All you had to do was watch the games.

I did watch the games, and up until last year I didn't see much of Edelman at all except on punt returns. You know, because he had like 30 catches total over the prior 3 seasons.

I really don't understand why we signed him. I thought it was clear as day in 2012 that Edelman would replace Welker's production with ease, and posted such before Welker went to Denver, and I'm by no means a professional NFL talent evaluator.

He was signed because of Edleman's injury history.

Smart move. Sign someone with an injury history to be backup just in case your current player with an injury history goes down.

Now the player they signed has injury problems currently and Edleman does not.

Terrible signing right up there with Oucho.

Danny Amendola is one of a few players who has been unfairly targeted by some on this board. I truly feel bad for the young man. I think he has a ton of talent, but has been unable to show his strengths because of injury. He has proven that can be an excellent player as shown in his times with the Rams. However, he hasn't done that well during his time in NE. Whereas, Welker did a much better job than Danny getting open, rushing for yards, and making big plays during his time in NE. Nevertheless, I think this young man is capable of doing some big things for NE if fully healthy. God Bless Danny Amendola!

Kyle Arrington also had the same procedure around the same time, and the rehab is about 6 weeks.

Different injury, different procedure, different recovery. Specifically, the size of the tear is important. Arrington had a "partial tear" while Amendola suffered a complete rupture. As stated in my earlier post, the data showed return to play post surgery in 10-16 weeks. You are either not reading hte posts or deliberately misunderstanding them.

You are speculating that they were different injuries, and size tears, we don't actually know the significance of either injury at the time of the surgery. Either way 10-16 weeks from February would have been June so both players should be healthy now without question.

I am not speculating. I am reading. Articles that you posted:
Arrington was bothered by the partially torn groin for most of the season

Danny Amendola completely tore the adductor longus tendon in his groin in the team's Week 1 victory over the Buffalo Bills

Of course anyone who watches the games knows Amendola was more seriously injured than Arrington.
I have not seen information about when Amendola had his surgery, but you apparently have. Can you please post a link?

Yes. 16 yards for the season despite being active every game as our highest paid WR.

How brutally unfair of us.

I do not have a link but I have to assume that if Arrington had his surgery in February Amendola would have as well, especially since according to you Amendola was more severely injured, I mean he could have had the surgery June 1 and yesterday would have been 16 weeks, so it really does not matter. He is fully recovered from the offseason surgery, he participated in all of OTA, all of training camp, and the 2 preseason games Brady played, the surgery is irrelevant to the here and now.

NFL players have procedures often in the offseason that go unreported, I honestly do not know why Amendola decided now to share this information, but if as he said he is not using it as an excuse what was the point of mentioning it? Needless to say this enter discussion is the least of my concerns, Amendola is a small piece of the puzzle and there are much bigger things to address, like Tom Brady only having 2.15 seconds before his pocket collapses. I was just pointing out that Arrington had groin surgery as well, that was it, now I am done with this discussion so please do not quote me on the subject again.

My biggest concern as well, and anyone who is down playing the importance of this should really count to two and ask themselves what they think they could have accomplished from the moment they started, to the moment they finished.

1..2.

Amendola is partially to blame. It does not appear as if he spends the offseason in the weight room like Edleman, but at the Crispy Creme counter. He looks soft and puffy this season while Edleman looks chiseled out of rock. There is no excuse for this; he a professional athlete.

So let me get this straight; the Patriots gave him more in guaranteed money than Emanuel Sanders got? Ouch!

The Patriots should fire their GM...ooops...

I'm not going to question why Danny A has just now admitted to getting surgery, as it's irreverent to me.

What is relevant however, is his lack of production. I'm not going to attack him for being injured. I do however, question the coaching staff's decision to continuing fielding him, when there are better receivers on this team at the moment (read Dobson and Thompkins). And if Danny's still recovering from the effects of his surgery (read if), then why would we choose to field him, if there was any risk that his injury would be exacerbated?

I have nothing against DA, he's a tenacious player who's not quite as bad as some here say he is, and he seems like an all around alright dude. And while I do deem him injury-prone, I'm not going to question his "toughness", given that's it not my place (seriously guys, the dude sustained an injury back in 2012 that nearly killed him, worst thing that's happened to be was being scratched in the eye).

I am however, against the contract that he's been given, as he has been unable to justify it. If he can turn it around, all the better. If not, we'll move on from him and admit that the signing was a mistake. I want every player on this team to succeed, but the objective is winning football games first. Team first, individual players second.

But as B6 correctly points out, there are much more important concerns than any Danny-drama. Once the O-line starts looking competent and the coaching staff ceases to shoot the team in the foot, then we can talk about DA.

Terrible signing right up there with Oucho.

Without looking up stats, I actually think Ocho may have been more productive than Amendola, as amazing as that is. He also sucked for us for a helluva' lot less money.

Amendola is basically being paid millions of dollars to attend Patriot games. We should put a tricorne on his head and make him start Patriot chants in the crowd.

Someone quick, make me a Photoshop of Danny A wearing a tricorne........I don't know anything about computers or much of anything, and it'd amuse me greatly.

Ochocinco had 15 receptions with the Patriots for 276 yards, averaging 18.4 yards per catch, and his longest was 53 yards.

lol

When taking into consideration the cost of each, we arguably got more value out of Chad Johnson.

Edit: nvm. I forgot about his signing bonus.
