Week 5 Thursday Night Football - Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers

Another craptacular TNF game. I guess its ok because the masses get more footballs on the tv screen.

What I can't figure out is how they beat Atlanta.
The Falcons, like the Saints, are below average on the road. Along with that, their defense is atrocious. It's not all that surprising that the Vikings, with a QB that they didn't have a lot tape on, were able to best them in Minnesota.

I just turned on the baseball game for a second and the announcer (think his name is Ernie) said they just flashed The Rally Monkey on the big screen. Surprised the FCC doesn't have a problem with that. Go figure ...

why? the monkey nuts hanging out all over the place or something?

Why do you ask? Isn't that what monkeys do?

The PC police have sanitized everything else...why not monkey nutz? Amendola would make a nice rally monkey after his inspirational 1 catch season...

that's the last thing my ex said as she walked out the door for the final time..."I'm off to find giants, tweezer boy"...

Once Thursday Night Football is canceled for deservedly abysmal ratings, it will be replaced by "Monkey Junk," a light-hearted sitcom about the madcap antics of The Rally Monkey and his zany sidekick Roger.

So the NFL donates 100% of the proceeds from the sale of pink merchandise now? Isn't that changed from last year? Didn't they take heat for donating so little of it in the past?
Basically it is semantics.

The line you hear gives many the implication that 100% of the sale goes to research. In reality it is 100% of whatever is left over after all expenses - so it actually ends up being about $3.54 that goes to cancer research for a $100 sweatshirt that you bought for the cause.

The spin is that 'well, it's about increasing awareness', but at this point I do believe that except for some intoxicated homeless person sleeping under a bridge, everybody is aware about the disease and the quest for a cure. You really have to wonder how much of it is self-serving on the part of the NFL.

This is a couple years old, but here is one of many articles on the topic here:

Truly there is no more exciting Thursday event than TNF....a riveting blood-sport where two titanic squads duke it out, hit the ground, and wage epic battles that are decided by a razor-thin margin....................

Oh wait, all that stuff is actually describing my weekly trip to the supermarket....... I actually forgot that they even play football on Thursday's anymore .

TNF games have been disappointing. Good MLB playoff game going on in LA.

Ten bucks says the Vikings don't get the Patriot treatment this week.
I guess they really shouldn't either. It's just a good time to reflect on the fact that the reason we get so much crap from the media is because we've set the bar for so long.

Add me to the list of those who completely forgot that there was a game on until reading this this morning

Eek. Getting old is tough, huh? Hope you remember where your seats are at Gillette on Sunday.

Absolutely. EVERY time I've turned on NFLN this week there has been a segment on the Pats. Every major national site I visit has featured the Patriots heavily. In a way, it's a good reminder to us locals of the franchise's standing in the league.

That said — anyone who still watches them should be forewarned that the pre-game shows this Sunday will be even more unwatchable than usual.

Week 5 in general looks to have some pretty good games here in New England.

Ravens-Colts at 1 on CBS, Jets-Chargers at 4. Though I must say Fox has it all wrong at 4, showing Falcons-Giants instead of Broncos-Arizona.

Edit: Wait. I got it wrong. No Fox game at 4 — Giants at 1. Oh well. Red Zone at 4 it is.
