Getting rid of Mankins = biggest mistake

1) I believe Logan Mankins played in that game

2) The League must not gotten the message. So far 2014: 21 carries 157 yards 7.5 average

I liked Blount and wanted him back, but your posts on this are crazy talk. Blount has a total of 21 carries in 4 games this season. He had 14 yards on 7 carries in the first two games of the year.

4 carries, 6 yards
3 carries, 8 yards
10 carries, 118 yards
4 carries, 25 yards

So, what was gained by trading Mankins? It appears to me that it was just subtraction. Why even bother defending the move? It was an awful decision and it is okay to admit it.

Yes, this was a pure salary move that either shouldn't have happened or should have happened in the offseason.

Anyone can have a bad game or two. He did last year also.

What did he do over the course of the season last year? What did he do over the course of the first 4 games this year?

Most importantly: How does having him on the roster affect how opposing defenses must respect the run? You may say the same question is true of Mankins. That would be true. But Blount is 27, comes cheap, with little-to-moderate NFL wear and tear compared to the 32 year old Mankins.

I see the loss of Blount as the far larger difference in that offense this year.

As I said in another thread, I think the biggest mistake was the timing of the release- e.g., right before the season started. This didn't give the line any time to develop new chemistry and gel as a unit.

Yes, anyone can have a bad game. The flip side is that having one good game doesn't mean much, either. You were the one pimping his YPC over 21 carries, not me.

I agree. The line has a new line coach, mediocre talent, and no time to gel.

Mankins isn't the player he was, but they do miss his toughness and his leadership on the line.

Getting rid of Welker was another huge F-up. Can't blame Welker though, the "experts" claimed that he was "a product of the system", that Brady made him great, he probably wanted to prove that as a lie.

But the OLine has badly regressed without Mankins, so for me that is the biggest mistake.

While I'm a huge fan of Welker and was pissed when he left, I think letting him go has absolutely nothing to do with what he is doing now. I mean, Edelman has filled in for him just nicely. If Welker was still here, I bet either Edelman would have already left in free agency OR he would still be doing a WR4/Special Team role.

That's over 4 games. 2 good 2 bad.

Last year he had good games and bad games also.

Would you like to use your same measuring stick for Logan Mankins this year?

Logan Mankins, LG, +1.3

Breakdown: Logan Mankins posted his first positive grade in a Tampa Bay uniform while also surrendering his first sack since moving on from the Patriots. The sack was the only bit of pressure he allowed in the game however and his run blocking was respectable.

I'm not the one using anything for a measuring stick, you are. You are the one who trotted out Blount's YPC based on just 21 carriers. Also, the fact that you continue to point to PFF helps explain why your analysis of players continues to be atrocious.

Once again, I also used his performance from the full season last year. Someone contended that the ONE bad game at the end of the season last year (irony?) showed the league how to stop Blount.

[SB1: "The Broncos showed the league how to stop Blount. I suspect he's still be here if he had a good game last January in Denver."]

I pointed out that that memo SO FAR in 2014 has not been completely followed.

Regarding your last sentence, that's just typical Deus writing his personal opinion as if it is a fact. (especially your laughable contention that I "continue to point to PFF "- - that was the first time ever I used PFF as a reference on this foum" - your typing of words is easy - your typing of facts is difficult).

Yes, the myth is perpetuated...... by you.

So what is the truth oh wise one? The Pats made at least two offers to Welker for more than what he signed for in Denver.... he turned down the first one which I believe was three years for 24 million... the second one's numbers escape me, but I recollect that the guaranteed money was more than what Denver offered. ..

His agent overestimated his value... he should have taken the first offer.

Hey lay off Deus! He is currently on "See I am right, everyone was wrong" world tour. Besides, he must be having a lot difficulties typing posts while only using one hand to type while he is patting himself on the back with the other hand. He has been waiting for a disaster game like this since the Pats traded away Seymour to act like he is above everyone.

Hey, as I've always said: while typing, what posters are doing with their other hand is NONE of my business! :D

You cited Blount's work this season as if it was something of significance. It isn't.

The rest of your post is just your usual flailing about.

This has been gone over a million times. The myth being put out by the homers such as yourself was proven to be a load of bull.

Ah, and here comes the name calling........

.

1) I believe Logan Mankins played in that game

2) The League must not gotten the message. Blount so far 2014: 21 carries 157 yards 7.5 average

3) So, if by your logic, one bad game at the end of the season is reason to be shipped out, why did Mankins survive after SB 42 and SB 46?

4) BTW, Blount was easily the Patriots best kickoff returner last year.

2yrs $4million would have kept him here.

Then I'll reword it. The Broncos showed the league how to stop Blount in the Patriot offense. Had he run wild in that game like he did the 2 weeks previous I believe he'd still be here. Just my opinion.

While I don't agree, I can see that. Thanks for clarifying.

I don't think they showed the league how to stop Blount, but I think people overrated Blount's season last year. He is this year what he was last year. He can be an absolute stud RB at times and not show up at all others. Luckily for the Pats, he became the stud going into the playoffs. But let's face it, he was only a stud for 2-3 games.

No need for falling to the basest instincts to prove your point...

I am a fan, thank you... you dispute my contention, but fail to address the issue..

Another case of the person makes the most noise has to be right..
