I don't think a player should get into a shouting match with a coach. That said, we've all seen what our OC can be like. He cursed his players out like a crazy person live on nation TV. He had Steve Scarnecchia, the son of Dante, film a 49ers walk-through. When it came out, we got this rouge employee BS about Scarnechia. Even if you buy his excuse, remember his infamous line about the difference in the Patriots 'spygate' and his own. About the Patriots situation: "That was practiced, that was coached, that was worked on." Bilicheck forgiving him doesn't change that he said it. Threw the Patriots under the bus. Those comments reopened the spygate wounds for a good while.

Multiple coaches and players spoke out against him. Stories about Brady not talking to him for about a month. Hillis. Marshall. Cutler. Mike Nolan, who ran the defense for McDaneils, had to part ways with the Broncos because he couldn't get along with McDaniels.

He ran a lot of people off from Denver, when he had full control. He acted like a megalomaniac.

So maybe Dobson has went from never having issues through all of his college career and a full season as a pro to an 'immature' player. Or maybe McDaniels is doing what he has done time and time again. Believe whatever you want.

This whole season is teetering on the precipice of a full blown Mad magazine spy vs. spy episode.

All of a sudden, every self serving grownup punk with a pen and a twitter account thinks HE'S the knower of all things Patriot.

"The guy said"... "unnamed source(s)"... stay tuned Felger and Borges know the real story...

On a serious note, I thought this team does everything it can to win and put the best available players onto the field every game day. Dobson isn't getting playing time because he mouthed off to McDaniels? Hope the source is incorrect about this.

I guess we will never draft a guy whose first name is Aaron anymore ;)

It's too bad BB doesn't see how Josh McDaniels has hurt this offense.

We see it so BB must as well and has done nothing about it.

Bring Weis in as a assistant or consultant please.
This offensive line can not be that bad that we can't run anything that catches a defense off guard or allows Dobson or Thompkins to look like athletic playmakers.
Or Pound the ball on third and one third and two why not Devlin.
If this offense doesn't show a spark In the next few games s drastic change has to take place.
I love Josh McDaniels I think he is a great coach and he created a record setting offense with now granted we had Moss Welker Gaffney and Stallworth.
I have to believe Dobson Edelman Gronk Thompkins Tyms Admendola should net similar results.
Is Mankins really they integral did Brady just lose a spark or become depressed because we cast out his best lineman and hes sick of the jsgs being put around him?
Is he truly scared and rattled behind center?
Did Belichick make a mistake and undervalue Mankins impact?
Is Degl a terrible coach next to Dante?
Is Josh running this offense into the ground?
Does the team have awful chemistry?
For good measure Can we please please play man and blitz more on D.
If you wanted to spend so much on Revis and Browner why play defense like you have Earthwind Moreland and and Duane Starks?
It's head scratching decisions and at some point the answers need to be found.
If we are scared of penalties who cares its better than getting smoked by Alex Smith.

so, what could Dobson have done that was so bad they decided to bench him for not 1, but 2 games?? and if you do have Dobson inactive, why make THompkins inactive as well??

I know alot of people are saying "well we dont know what happened." BUT in one corner we have

1. Dobson - has no history of ever causing problems in college/his first year in the patriots
2. McDaniels - has had problems with multiple players in Denver/the rams and was cast away from both teams.

its arrogance to handicap your team and put them at a disadvantage to put a player in "their place" bench him for a half, fine him. but 2 games? and then to have thompkins inactive as well?

Let's just hope he is available this Sunday. All hands need to be on deck for this one.

He sat him for the opening series...

I think you're being a bit dramatic here. I don't think that was too harsh of a punishment, when Welker purposely went out and did exactly what his coach told them not to do. If anything, it was more of a minor slap on the wrist than it was anything else.

Should BB not care if a player performs like crap for an entire series? I'm pretty sure he'd have strong words for someone who took a series off, he'd probably go on about how a single play can change a game and this guy takes a series off?

I'm not being a bit dramatic, Belichick was.

Dobson mouths off to a coach and McDaniels is the bad guy?

Sorry, there is no reason ever to talk back to the coach.

A couple of things:

  • Mike Nolan wears out his welcome virtually everywhere he goes. Since he first became a DC in 1993, he has been on 8 teams. He rarely spends more than 2-3 years with a team. He was fired by the Dolphins and he now is in charge of the "awesome" Falcons' defense and looks like he may be looking for a new job next season considering how bad their defense is.
  • McDaniels and Brady have a good relationship. There has been a lot of BS rumors about their releationship like the ridiculous accusation that McDaniels told Brady that they were not going to make any adjustments during the Super Bowl which was clearly made up by one of McDaniels haters.

Nailed it

Although I don't agree that Dobson should be deactivated for two games for talking back, I think it is ridiculous to make him the hero and McDaniels the villain. At no time should a player talk back to a coach.

I guess I would have to know the situation and the manner of how he was spoken to.
If it was some back and forth and Dobson was frustrated and ran his mouth slip before his actions it happens we are humans.
Should he of been respectful bit his tounge sure but if it was just something under the breathe then I don't know if the punishment fits the crime because it also is punishing the team and fanbase.

My guess is that if he was benched for two games, he did something significant.
