Will Tyms see the field?

Side note: Danny Amendola looked lean last year. Is it just me or a funny camera angle because he looks like he has gained some weight?

You're right, seems that way to me too. He looks very sluggish out there

Hopefully Tyms will be a good boy and bring Josh cookies every day. That's the way to get on the field I guess.

He does have a good rapport with Garoppolo...

What exactly does Amendola bring to this team? He has 3 catches for 16 yards this season WITH Dobson/Thompkins inactive on a weekly basis.

"Based on his playing time" - He is playing this much because there are no other active WR's.

Amendola is Edelman's backup. Edelman is crucial. That alone rules out the more extreme decision possibilities about him.

Edelman is crucial, not Amendola ... and if Amendola ever had to fill that void he would not be nearly as effective as Edelman. I rather have Collie who will do pretty much exactly the same, if not, better for a way cheaper price tag as well. Not only that, but Amendola looks slower/weaker on the field this year while 100% healthy compared to an injury plagued 2013 season.

Collie stat line for 2013 playoffs: 5 catches 7 targets 72 yards with 5 first downs
Amendola stat line for 2013 playoffs: 3 Catches 6 targets 77 yards with 3 first downs

I'll take the cheaper option.

I have a difficult time envisioning Tyms being thrown out there at the moment. I think they are having enough issues with players they deem as more talented and with a better knowledge of the system. Just my opinion.

I think Tyms is kept on the roster through the one game exemption move and not made active. Then I think he's cut in a hope to go to the practice squad.

word is he uttered something under his breath and McDaniels heard it, so all WR's will be benched for cincinatti.

Wonder if he sees the field if Dobson and KT are out again this week. Also someone has to go..well 2 for him and Browner coming back

Its worth a shot to put him out there. Why not? Need some new blood out there
Not if he argues with McDaniels...:)

Why are you against Tyms getting an opportunity. He looked good in pre-season our WRs have sucked so far and you want him to go right to the practice squad. He's 6'3 and physical and fits a need for this team, lets give him a chance and hope he works out. If not he can't be worse than what we have now.

When is the deadline to drop someone? Arnt they over the 53?

The two players have a roster exemption for this week so NE can have 55 players on the roster. The Pats don't have to do anything with either Tyms or Browner and any corresponding cuts, if needed, until 4 p.m. next Monday. If they want to make either or both active before then, NE will have to cut somebody or put someone on IR.

I suspect that the Pats would have no trouble finding some candidates whose performance is failing to grade out at an NFL roster level. Those players would be pretty easy to cut if they need a roster spot.

At least Browner is coming on board so someone is leaving. I'm curious who that will be.

Don Jones? Tavon Wilson? Deontae Skinner? Devey? Kline? Amendola? They could probably cut Hoomanawanui at this point, considering how often they're just using an extra lineman as a blocking TE anyway. I don't see what he brings to the table anymore.

Many cuts that make sense to me and would seemingly barely impact the team.

Completely agree I don't know how BB feels justified to carry Tavoon Wilson and Hooman on our roster NONE of them do anything well. I am even a advocate of puttting Amendola on IR if he cannot get open what use is he?

I don't remember saying that I'm against Tyms getting an opportunity, just that I personally don't believe that they are going to throw more first year crap at the wall in the hope that it will stick.

I just don't see how Dobson and Thompkins (players with experience in the system who have actually developed some rapport with Brady) can be inactive and yet you feel that there's somehow going to be room for Tyms, that's all. We'll have to see what happens, as I certainly wouldn't mind being wrong.

All the names you mentioned make pretty good sense. I figured with us adding a cornerback and a wideout that maybe we would look to cut a current corner or wide receiver to make room. Then I looked at our current roster and noticed Malcom Butler would probably be the first cb to be let go if we went that route and I think he has shown some promise so I don't think Bill would do that. I also don't see a wide receiver that would be cut from our current roster although based on performance, Amendola would have to be considered.
I'm thinking it's going to be Devey and Skinner in the end.

Yeah, logically you would think to add a CB and WR you would subtract another CB and a WR. But in reality, no CB has really played poorly enough to warranty being released; similarly, the WRs have mostly been solid, no one has been downright BAD.

So I would think we would have to look at other positions like I listed above where there is both a surplus at the position, as well as one or more players who have either not contributed or whose contributions have not been very good. I don't think the chances are very high that anyone claims guys like Devey or Skinner on waivers... both should make it back down to the Practice Squad where they belong. In the event of an injury they can easily be called back up. I also agree those are the most likely choices, though if I were to make the moves, I just don't see what Tavon Wilson or Hoomanawanui are bringing to the table right now at all.

TO MAKE ROOM FOR BROWNER

1) I don't think that we will be carrying TWELVE defensive backs. 11 was already too many.

2) Tavon Wilson is the first off the bench on passing downs (Harmon less often). Ebner is our dime back.
Ebner and Jones are two of our three top Ster's. Wilson is probably #4. In any case, they play a lot of special teams. The safety with the least production and the least special teams skills is Harmon. He could go, but it seems likely that Belichick will keep him for the season.

3) Dennard could be put on the IR list. He's been out for awhile, and we don't know how serious his injuries are.

4) And then there's UDFA Butler. The reality is that if Browner is activated or Dennard comes back, Butler will seldom be active. If both Browner and Dennard are on the team, Butler would have few reps unless there were two injuries. Even with both Browner and Dennard not there on Monday night, Butler only got reps when Belichick decided to bench Ryan after a penalty (and after some poor play). So, Butler is the #6 corner and a long way from contributing. HOWEVER, Butler is a good prospect and Belichick might want to keep this promising young prospect on the 53.

5) Alternatively, we could someone else on the defense (or even the offense, but we'll ignore that for now). Moore has done nothing, and hasn't even gotten reps with Buchanan out. Moore is a good prospect in a very thin DE group, so it is likely that he stays. Skinner is another defensive player that folks want to kick off the island. I don't know why. He's a reasonably good special teamer and a backup linebacker, our only one since White doesn't really play linebacker (one rep all last year). If Skinner goes, another linebacker like Fleming or Davis would be signed.

BOTTOM LINE
For me, the choice is between cutting Butler, IRing Dennard and one of the safeties. If Dennard is expected to be back anytime soon, he's stay It does not seem that we will increase from 11 to 12 defensive backs on the 53.
