If they had won 3 SBs over the course of 13 years, rather than 4? I was thinking about this question yesterday. Obviously the "they haven't won since Spygate" meme wouldn't exist, but would that meme even be repeated as much had they not won three rings prior to 07?

So, I ask you, denizens of Patsfans, how would sportswatchers/ football analysts think of Brady and Belichick if their SB wins were spread out across the decade? What if they had lost to the Rams, Panthers, or Eagles, but beaten the Giants one or both times?

It's irrelevant to me. I got to enjoy seeing my team win 3 SBs. That's all that matters to me. People's opinions of their legacy doesn't mean much.

Alright.. Would you have traded any one of those 3 wins for a SB in 07?

A SB win is a SB win. At least to me. Going 19-0 is not something I really care about, because I don't put much emphasis on regular season success. It sucked losing that game and I would have loved for the Pats to win their 4th SB, but no, I would not trade any of the 3 for an 07 SB.

I'm not certain as to whether or not I would (19-0 is a tempting prospect)... But I can say with certainty that I wouldn't trade our win against the Rams for anything in the world......what a satisfying conclusion to that season.

I think three championships over twelve years would not be considered to be as impressive. Three in four years is more dominating, even though it is over a short period of time (and unfortunately brings out the 'haven't won since' crowd).

Three over twelve seasons is not all that different than two in twelve (Ravens). Many would consider the Steelers to be the most dominant franchise of the era (two championships in four years, three conference championships in six years) rather than the Patriots in this hypothetical scenario.

As time has passed I kind of look at it in phases.
3 out 4 was it's own beautiful run and is one of the great dynasties of this league and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Then we took too the next phase not quite as successful but one of the greatest runs without a SB win. Compares to the Vikings of the 70s, 80s Elway Broncos run, Bills of the 90s and Andy Reid's Eagles.

And now we are into phase 3 and we all want to us squeeze in a lot more winning and hopefully the ultimate prize. Why trade anything when if we can just pull out one or two more we get the best of both your worlds.

The Patriots Pantheon of Achievement......IMO
1) 2001 SB
2) 2007 Near Perfection.......That Offense :)
3) 2004 SB.....Best and most complete Pats Team
4) 2003 SB
5) 1985......

No. The Super Bowl winning teams were good enough on the day. The SB 42 Patriots were not.

It's unlikely Brady will win another SB. I doubt BB has another shot at it either. The game seemly has passed him. The show has ended. Enjoyed the ride though.
