You are not considered a loser for getting knocked down...

You are considered a loser by not getting back up and trying harder...

Was I angry over last nite's game? Of course...but it's not my life My life is my family not football . Anyway, truth b told, when I first started watching football..I was a NY football Giants fan. Back in the 50's they were the only game in town..or region

Football isn't your life? You sir, have your priorities out of whack.

LOL Believe it or not my Eagle friends feel the same way. We're going down to Philly this weekend for our annual guy weekend and catch the birds/Rams game. Though my friends have their heads on straight..I can't say as much for a lot of Eagle fans

Nice job Ian. I have been a fan since around 1980 (8years old). There were a lot of tough years before Mr. Kraft bought the team and hired Bill Parcells. We have witnessed some incredible football since 2001 and I hope the fans stick by this team through this rough patch. Belichick, Brady and Wilfork need and deserve fan support this season. They have certainly earned it.

Thank you for the new policy Ian, having followed the Patriots since their Harvard days I know what you mean.

I am not a member of any other football message board due to much of the problem you have just stated. I signed up here for things like the weekly Guess the score posts and I am a huge fan of the Idle Thoughts each week as well as many of the other knowledgeable posts I have seen here.

I have been disappointed of late by the vitriol being posted and wondering if I had made a mistake. Your stance shows me I have not. Thank you again.

I'm not saying people can't complain or vent. All asking us that threads that are started need to contain more than a quick rant or complaint. It's easier to post two sentences venting than a long descriptive post with reasons and thought. That's what we need more of. Not a board full of the others.

I don't see anything wrong with that request.

Then again if we could not question Patriots decisoins today, we might as well close the forum.
I have had season tickets for years and I know what rough patches are all about.
1981 - 2 wins - 14 loses - Ron Erhardt coach - I had season tickets
1990 - 1 win - 15 loses - Rod Rust coach - I had season tickets
1992 - 2 wins - 14 loses - **** MacPherson - I had season tickets.

The 1981 Season, the Patriots were predicted to have a decent team.
The 1990 Season, Rod Rust who was fired & then rehired as a coordinator proved to be the worst coach in my lifetime.
The 1992 Season, **** MacPherson who was 61 in his 1st season was a likeable coach from Syracuse
but the season was a disaster. The opening kickoff we fumbled it and it was returned for a touchdown
and it was all down hill from there.

My biggest problem with this forum is people get crucified for making valid points against
the Patriots.

Over the years I have questioned Laurence Maroney & Ron Brace, only to get insulted by the
Kool-aid kids.

A week or two ago a guy made a post questioning the Patriots drafting and he got crucified.
You may not agree with the guy, but this guy got more Disagree X marks than I have ever
seen.

I thought he raised a valid point about the draft picks.

I enjoy the forum and will try my best to follow the rules, but I may make a post from time
to time questioning the Patriots decision.

No worries, I have no issue with people criticizing the team. All I ask is that if a thread is started it's substantial enough to warrant a thread and not just a quick rant. I'd also like to request - and this is an issue - that the person not start repeated threads focused on a similar topic, which has also been an issue.

I dont want to see to heavy of a hand in moderation. I have been a pats fans since 1980, not as long as some, but longer than the new crowd. Its ok to be upset, its ok to be disappointed. Its ok to talk about these things without calling for absurd measures. When you get owned in all facets of the game its going to make for a long day.

I dont see whats wrong with a thread calling Chandler Jones mediocre..? That is certainly a topic with many varying opinions. People are passionate about this team and nobody was expecting a total no show last night. Things will get better as the week goes on, the wound as they say is fresh.

Simply because he doesn't live up to your inflated expectations? He is playing in the NFL and you sir, couldn't carry his jockstrap. Where do you get the balls to call him mediocre. I hate 'fans' that berate players. Discussing a player's shortcomings, as you perceive them to be is fine, but to call him mediocre? C'mon man, that's just plain demeaning to both the player and yourself.

Disagree's are neutral ratings.

And speaking of which, I happen to disagree. Its my experience that the vast majority of the posters that want to criticize Belichick are in fact their own worst enemies because rarely can they do so without coupling it with some kind of insulting rhetoric.

For example take this sentence: The kool-aid kiddies amongst you will disagree, but the Patriots are paying for Belichick's idiotic moves like picking Tavon Wilson in the second which should have been used to draft player X instead.

Now I personally agree with the core of what is being said here. I guarantee you about 90% of the homers would too. But that sentence becomes a magnet for Disagrees, Dislikes and snarky responses from us hated homers, not because he is criticizing Belichick, but because he's being an ass in how he's going about doing it, ie: "you kool-aid kiddies" and "idiotic moves" and to a lesser extent because he's playing the tired, old draft-hindsight game.

Belichick is not an idiot.

Homers don't like to be referred to as "kool-aid kiddies".

Good point, but what if a story breaks about a "major injury or trade for example" and you are
creating a thread and after you post it, you notice that someone else posted the same subject
a minute earlier while you were creating yours.

I have seen this often.

I have also seen multiple posts on the same subject, in the political forum because the title
does not indicate the subject of the thread.

I for one do not read every thread, and I have created duplicate threads in the past in the political
forum because the title of the other thread did not indicate the subject.

Don't you have mod's to merge the threads?

Fair play if you want to keep the board tidy but please don't shut down opinions of fans who cares much like the way Belichick shuts down players having an opinion because that's partly why this team is in this mess - NO IDENTITY.

Excellent point & Point taken.... Thank you !

Haha... you gotta love a thread about thread requirements that has posts close to the border of violating those requirements.

In any case, as a Patriots fan since 1968, except for personal attacks I don't care if you get upset, criticize, disagree, rant or carry on... just as long as you keep on watching, loving and rooting for the Patriots!

I'll probably be buried wearing a Patriots t-shirt.

I'm not sure how, or if, this will work, and I can see some potential problems, but it's his place, his rules, and his experiment. Ian still lets me play in this sandbox, so this is obviously not about shutting down all the controversial opinions. ;)

Ian, the solution is easy -- just ban everyone fitting this profile:

Male: Yes
Age 12-25: Yes
Plays fantasy football: Yes
Takes ADD meds: Yes
Enjoys fast food: Yes
Trades in smartphone every six months: Yes
Lives in mom's basement: Yes

Ever attend a Pats game live: No
Ever kiss a girl: No

I am 25 and play FF and have kissed a girl... so i think i am OK :)

Fair point, as long as i can post what i want and voice my praise or concern i'm not bothered. Apart from stopping trolling which is a must, when you moderate normal comments then that is not a good thing.

Are you 100% sure that was a girl you kissed? If it happened in Thailand, for instance....

They replay the Pro Bowl?

Wow what are you even talking about. I have no affiliation with that post and didn't even post in that thread (it's a few pages so many have)but if someone feels that way they deserve to voice that opinion which was my point. Do you even read this forum?
It was more in response to someone very early in this thread saying they wanted posts like that to disappear which I am very much against. Did you even read this thread?

But since you asked he's not the worst and not the best so what does that make him lol.
