The need for a scapegoat greater than the need for common sense this morning..

That is a lot of misses and eventually those catch up with you, that is unfortunately some of what we are seeing right now.

People are blaming Bill the GM, but I think it is Bill the Coach that is the problem right now. Here is why:

  • Bill the GM has been aggressively drafting and adding pieces for more of an aggressive attack style 4-3 defense. They have been mostly playing a read and react zone 3-4 defense.
  • Bill the GM signed arguably the best man press cover corner in the league. Bill the Coach uses him in a lot of off zone coverages and, even when he is on the line, he is back pedaling against a bigger receiver like Bowe. We used to make fun of Greg Schiano for doing the same thing last year.
  • Bill the GM got two WRs who had good rookie seasons and they are watching the game from the press box while dressing only three WRs and five RBs in a game where they ran more 3 receiver, one RB sets.
  • The Chiefs are not a good run defense and Ridley is on the sideline while when they run, they are running out of the shotgun with Vereen.
  • The Chiefs have a makeshift o-line yet the Pats rarely tested the line with a blitz.

I think more specifically, the coordinators are the issues.

These are their gameplans.

Barring injuries why aren't Dobson and Thompkins dressing? How are they supposed to contribute from the couch? If they're not showing enough progress to warrant playing why are they still on the team at this point?

Amendola has proven to be a bust but is it unreasonable to wonder why Brady rarely targets him when he does play? He has not gotten a look even when he has been open. If Amendola is not good enough to target yet plays because he is still better than Dobson and Thompkins...what does that say about them?

There were a ton of deficiencies last night but BB, McDaniels (and Brady?) have been confusing as to the thought process behind this

The buck stops with Bill, the Patriots are basically at full health and Andy Reid took them over his lap and beat them almost to death. That was ugly, hopefully it is not the unraveling of the King's cloak. Personally I don't have a good feeling, this team is no longer elite. Just a regular team like every other team.

This steaming pile of crapp that the Patriots call a football game can be put right at the feet of Belichick. He needs to own up to it and fix it fast.

In 2006/2007 BB with a prime Brady could get away with Caldwell, Childress, Gabriel as a WR and be in the mix for a title. He could cut guys and sign value guys and get away with it because Brady could cover up for that.

Not anymore. Brady at 37 simply cannot do more with less anymore. It is just that simple. Brady needs more help. It is absurd that BB keeps Thompkins and Dobson on this roster yet they are inactive week after week. Either they are part of the future or they are not. Why did the pats sign Lefell? Why is the Edleman the only pats deep threat? Why is Amendola even on the field when Brady won't look in his direction. Why is BB, at game 4, playing musical chairs with the O-line?

Instead of reeving up for a final push with the little time they have left with Brady they pats continue to be hell bend on being 10m+ under the cap, sending a high pick that can help now for two late picks 4 years from now, signing value players that may not be good, and sending established players out the door save money and rebuilding on the fly.

Brady has been bailing out this team for years and he cannot do it anymore. Just because they righted ship in the past does not mean people should hang their hat on this team doing this every single year. At some point it is not going to work. Certainly seems to me BB decisions have finally caught up to this team this year.

Dobson/thompkins have shown more than Amendola even last year. why they are riding the pine and amendola is playing doesnt make sense.

and, at least brady targets Thompkins/dobson. 10 targets for thompkins week 1, 3 targets for dobson when he played

of course.....BB is responsible for everything to do with this team.......that's his job.

I can tell you that winning superbowls while paying your QB top dollar is a pretty rare event.......most are won on rookie QB deals (brady, roethlisberger, wilson, flacco, rodgers, 2007 manning) or old guy back up deals (dilfer, johnson)

you can certainly blame him for painting himself into a corner with a 37 year old QB

All gameplans go through Belichick. It isn't like the coordinators create their gameplans and spring them on Belichick on game day.

I do not think it is the loss Mankins as a player as much as it is the impact it has had on the players who are still here. Brady is clearly pissed off; the rest of the OL has no tone setter or leadership. Mankins was the player that came up and knocked the opponent to the ground if he was getting Brady’s face or being overly aggressive with him.

I agree that Mankins sometimes hit guys after the play and had a nasty streak, was a tone setter at times etc.. But he is a guard. He's still good but not an All-Pro like he used to be. Solder doesn't suck because Mankins got traded. He sucks because he sucks. Vollmer doesn't suck because Mankins was traded either.

How is Hernandez a miss ? Is BB now also responsible for tucking in every player in the evening to make sure they are at home ? From football perspective he was a great pick.

And when you pick up UFAs for cheap then you have the margin to fail that often without landing in cap hell. I agree that most of the UFA players didn't work out, but apart from the opportunity cost they also didn't screw up our budget.

For Patricia I agree, but I would imagine McDaniels has a lot more autonomy.

If only we could bring Weiss back. Sure he has failed miserably at every job he's had post Patriots but he was great! <sarcasm>

In fairness to McDaniels. If he did draw up the game plan without any input from Belichick, Belichick sure cut him off at the knees by activating only three WRs and five RBs in a game plan where the Pats were mostly in 3 receiver, one RB sets.

I'm sure there's a process in crafting gameplans. Coordinators get to present their ideas, make arguments on why they should attack the team they're playing a certain way, etc.

Sure BB has the ultimate say, but these ideas come from our coordinators.

BB has failed in recognizing these guys are not capable.

I blame BB for getting the pats to at least the AFCC 8 times since he's been here....including the last 3 years

Ya let's get Revis and pay him $12m and just play him 8 yards off in zone and help these average QBs

One time this year they decide to use him in man he allows nothing and gets an INT.

Really hope this zone thing changes with Browner coming off suspension and Dennard getting healthy.

Because if you have those 3 guys and you are playing zone then at that point your ego is hurting your defense.

Also Amendola offers you nothing now and has no future time to let your future play. Go 3 & 4 wide with Dobson, Edelman, Thompkins and LaFell and hope Brady has time but it probably gives you a better chance at moving the ball then what they've been doing

And Tim Wright are you actually gonna give him a chance to contribute. Why Hoohwhogivesacrap still see major snaps is beyond me. Terrible blocker and offers nothing in the receiving department.

First offensive series, pick up 3 or 4 yards running on first play. Play number 2 - a sideline post to JE (wtf??????). Play 3, third and long............... Good night

Contender for worst post of the year. Still plenty of time folks. Pace yourself.

Contender for most delusional poster on PatsFans. Actually no, not even contender. You outright win.

I assume BB and Mankins just didn't get along and the relationship was getting worse. Only way I can rationalize the trade.
Tim Wright was a healthy scratch last night..............wait, what ? He wasn't ? He was just as effective as Dobson and Thompkins last night.

You want to fire the greatest head coach of his generation when he went to the afccg last year and is just 2-2 this year? And who do you suggest take over? Should we install a whole brand new system just 4 games into the season? It can't be that hard right? This is not madden.
