Steve Young just nailed it (Brady doing more, with less help)

He had a big rant in the pre game show too. They are wasting the final years of Brady

Belichick is the one to blame. He gets rid of his star QB's favorite receiver in Welker and then Brady's best Olinemen in Mankins....you'd better believe that Brady is pi$$ed off at his coach. Enough is enough. In his final years Brady needs to be surrounded with the best possible team out there. This is not a time to be economical.

Keep your head in the sand all you want, he's a part of the problem.

Putting the ball where a 6'5" receiver would bring it in for Julian Edelman, those 2 picks, not going for the first down with a 3 yard scramble, forcing it into double coverage when the underneath guy is wide open for a first down.

All the above are things Tom Brady of old doesn't do. The guy is either playing hurt or fallen off the cliff.

Yeah, the receivers aren't the best but that isn't the sole problem.

The first pick might not have been on Brady, but the second one was. The fumble was 100% on Solder. Jury's still out on Brady, seeing LaFell make plays was encouraging but we need Gronk to get healthy and Dobson to get on the field

That's exactly what I said in the game thread. I need to see him with a full compliment of receivers before I write him off. He's certainly not the Brady of '04-'12, but he's still upper tier. Give him help.

Steve Young is dropping (a narrative carefully written prior to the game in case the Patriots lost and played poorly that his colleagues will then debate) on SportsCenter right now

Just wanted to make sure we don't confuse ESPN with a medium that provides "facts"
He was saying the same thing before the game too.

Good work on making a nice summary

Thanks for that op

This team is not the New England Bradys, it's the New England Patriots. What Brady or anyone else thinks about his weapons is irrelevant to me. This was an Air Brady team for the past 7 years, how has that worked out?

The more pressing concern is what the hell happened to this team's supposedly improved defense and why a BB defense got completely laid to waste tonight. That bothers me a lot more than BRady's stats.

Brady has been carrying this team for 7 years dude, wake up. What top defenses have we fielded since 2003? It's about Brady because he hss been a human bandaide covering a generous amount of incompetence. Now that he is getting older, surprise!

What I think as a fan of the offensive weapons this team fields matters a lot considering the offense has been the only bright spot for 10 years now. He is 37, get the offense some weapons to compensate for that.

That's not the point. We know it's not the New England Brady's. We know it's not all about Brady.

But when you have a top 3 QB of all time, a once in a lifetime player who's one of the most competitive, selfless players, who's given up millions of his own salary to help the team - you'd expect a little more out of the front office to give you some help. An o-line at the very least. Forget his WRs (even though that's a whole other matter).. His WRs don't matter if he's getting drilled .5 seconds after the ball is snapped to his hands.

Also, some people should really step back and realize how ignorant it is to claim Brady "sucks" and "should retire". It's just an unbelievably unfair argument to make. Sure, if he was putting up 180 yards, throwing INTs, and missing throws with the Broncos or Cowboys offense (great o-lines, great TEs and WRs) - THEN you have the right to say he sucks.

I agree with Kontra. Give Brady some NFL starter level outside WR's before we say he sucks.

The pass catchers barely seperate on a consistent basis. That's Brady's fault too?

Can't believe I'm posting this but it appeared Belichick and staff were out-coached by Andy Reid (of all people) and his staff tonight.

2 Super Bowl appearances....

So pretty well for the most part.

Of course if you want we could just rephrase toms weapons suck to the patriots weapons suck

Of all the lousy posts that have been around here this year, and they've been legion, yours is the worst I've seen. Congrats on that, I guess.

I just think a lot of this hand wringing comes from too many Pats fans being obsessed with some mythical race of stats with Peyton Manning. As if it matters to this team. It's funny that he only has one SB title - where he chipped in a 77 yard passer rating in the playoffs - and two SB blowout losses to show for all those stats.

Let's not forget Brady did win a SB with weapons no better than what he has around him now.

Steve Young isn't saying anything that a lot of us hadn't already been saying.

Be careful, I got called a moron for making that statement...and I was being sarcastic.
It pains me to say it but I don't see anyway around it. I used to beg for the Pats to throw it deep and now I cringe. He had great protection on one reasonably deep pass and he missed. Go back to last year and he missed Amendola wide open, Gronk and Edleman a few times. It sucks to watch a guy that you have adored since he took over when you were 14 start to decline but there's no other way to look at it.

True, but most of what I see in the media is "Brady's declining!" "They shouldn't have traded Mankins!"

Brady said he'd play until he sucked. It seems it's time for him to retire.

Sorry but you're not the first person with that oh so clever snark. Trying to throw Brady under the bus like that is weak minded and pathetic.

Seriously, don't you have a Jets forum to celebrate on?

To be fair to the media, they're right about the Mankins trade. It was a very stupid move by Belichick.

.... where the offense has come up small in the SB - including one historical loss.... plus an embarrasing one and done to the Jets... and a couple of playoff exits at home where the offense is shut out in the second half IIRC. So it's not as impressive as it may appear.

I want him to have playmakers too but as BB has figured out, the Air Brady show is done. I don't think that's a bad thing.
