Disappointed in this defense

The offense is what it is... and this won't be the last stinker they have this year.

The other side of the ball is a different story. I know it's only one game but I mean..I never thought I'd see them laid to waste like this. Totally unprepared, bullied, punched in the mouth, and quite frankly looked like they didn't belong on an NFL field. That's something I never thought I would have said about a BB coached defense.

Very disappointed tonight. Been a long time since I felt that way about any part of this team. As a fan I don't expect to win all the time but at least I expect better than this.

I'm disappointed in this coaching staff, but that is a recurring theme, they sure fooled KC bringing three wr five rb and 4 te to the game.

As long as Matt Patricia, a guy who should have been fired 3 years ago, is still running the defense - this is what you'll get.

In fact, didn't he have his play calling duties taken off him and BB took over a couple of years ago? How did that not lead to him being fired? It's no wonder Pepper left.

I'm disappointed in the coaching and the schemes they run. Just mind boggling.

They make plays early in the game while the offense craps. It's tough to keep it up when you give the ball to your offense and they put you right back on the field.

Patricia is an extension of BB. He will not fire him, and even if he had to he would never hire a DC that doesn't do what he wants. For worse and for better this is what you get when you want BB as your coach.

just Ctrl C+ Ctrl V what I said in the Game Thread:

Defense I think our biggest problems is the coaching staff. I see the personnel there and I don't believe how bad we've played.

Zone Defense in the secondary, a lot of space against the WR considering Smith can only throw within his first 20 yard, just a HORRIBLE defense against the run (It really should not be this bad).

This is insane, one of the worst defeats I've seen by the Pats

Does anyone think that BB is a defensive genius anymore? Looking back on his career, was he ever? He had LT playing on his defense in NY and a bunch a guys he didn't draft when the Pats won their SB's. In 2007, the Pats D looked better than it was because the offense was so dominant.

So sick of seeing this defense get torched year after year. By all means, they have more talent out there now than they've had in a while and still look horrible. Vince and Mayo are back, Revis is in the backfield and they still get run on, over, through and thrown on. Deplorable!

I seriously don't know why they didn't play Press man coverage. The chiefs had free releases and that allowed every player to be in position. It's like they didn't try.

D sucked balls...but they can recover as we have seen after MIA game.

I dunno.. I'd like to think so... but they got completely owned in every way you can get owned. And the scary thing is I think KC exposed a lot of fundamental issues that have no business existing on any NFL team. The lack of speed and the tackling for one.

With the new blood on D it feels like we've been sold a bill of goods in a way. I hope not. I expect better from a BB team than what we saw tonight, that's what's disappointing.

Well they lay 1 or two eggs a year...did last year...hopefully this am MIA were the tow

I dunno.. maybe I'm overreacting but what I witnessed tonight was just a gut punch... The Chiefs beat the Pats down, kicked them while they were down, stole their lunch money and stole their girlfriends.. I don't recall very many games - even week 1 - where they were thoroughly embarrassed like this.

I mean they got clobbered in NO a few years ago but I expected that. This I didn't expect...

Almost 10 straight years of defensive ineptitude

Starting in 2005 we have had, with the exception of 2007 which was as much about our offense putting other teams at a disadvantage, terrible defense.

This season has pretty much proven it to me - the problem is the system. They've thrown serious money and picks at the problem.

Jones, Wilfork, Mayo, Hightower, McCourty, Easley are all first rounders.
Revis was the best Corner in the league 2 years ago.

But year in and year out we've watched our defense make mediocre quarterbacks look like precision passers. Guys like AJ Feeley, Sanchez, backup quarterbacks come away from games against us having completed 24 of 28, 20 of 26, etc.

I was really excited to watch our defense this year and with a quarter of the season over it's been a huge disappointment and I think at this point the only rational conclusion that can be drawn from what we've seen is that as a philosophy 'bend don't break' is broken.

I'm just glad Patfanken isn't alive to see this.

Well said.

The D has top level talent at all three levels. I don't get it really.

Yup. Well said.

And I always thought "bend don't break" is just a polite way of saying not very good. Great defenses shut down and demoralize the other team. They don't "bend and don't break".
