Sounds like Charlie Weis has been fired

People forget how much people hated Weis prior to 2004 when the Pats brought in Corey Dillon. There was just as much hate thrown around the Patriots message boards in 2003 for Weis as there is for McDaniels now. People forget how bad the 2003 offense really was. I mean there were four games where the Pats didn't score a TD on offense and six games where the Pats scored 17 points or less that year.

Weiss offenses scored their first possession most every game
Weiss offenses could close out the clock at the end of games
Weiss offenses transformed Troy Brown from accessory to star
Weiss offenses could incorporate rookie WRs into the offense and succeed
Antoine Smith.......enough said.

Goalposts.... moved

Weis and Crennel are not some magic fix for the Patriots. People should move on from that notion.

While I agree and believe there is zero chance Weiss returns unless Macdaniel's gets a HC job somewhere in the offseason I also think that they are moving back towards the offensive balance that Weiss believed in, whereas MacDaniel's imo is a spread offense pass happy OC with more of a Mike Martz approach. I would love Weiss back next year.

I absolutely hate the way McDaniels calls a game.

It's strange because it is almost impossible to argue with the statistical results, as the Patriots have been a top scoring team pretty much every season he has been the OC, but I don't like the way MacDaniel's calls games either.

McDaniels has failed in 2 SB appearances. Regular season records and stats don't mean squat if you don't win the SB. I would rather have a SB title than a 16-0 season. Weis is the better coach in the playoffs. McDaniels can't call the big game to save his soul.

I don't consider him an instant fix as McDaniels gets bagged on too much around here at times. But Weis would be another voice that Belichick trusts in the room. I really don't see any way it would actually hurt if he came back.

Which offensive players were significantly limited, or missing altogether, in the SBs when Weis was the O.C.? Compare that to what McDaniels has happen, injury-wise, during his appearances.

Weis and Crennel both succeeded as coordinators elsewhere. They're just not head coaches.

McDaniels had a boatload of bad luck heaped on his plate. He'll get another chance to show what he's capable of.

Quite possibly here in New England.

Would love to see him come here as an assistant or just some sort of offensive adviser. An extra veteran breaking down film and helping out our struggling offense can't hurt.

I liked Weiss offense better than McDanile, but there was a big difference in the teams they coached on. Our linebackers/Db's got old and we didn't have the high draft picks to replace the. Polian rules made us go for the high powered offense which is better during the season than strong defensive teams which rule in the playoffs and we also blew a couple high picks trying to make that transition to offense in Maroney and Jackson.

Look at the turnover ratio in the Weis years. Teams don't maintain great defenses in their prime with no high draft picks, yet we kept winning while essentially transitioning strong defenses from 2004 to 2014, a decade.

Subtract Bruschi, McGinest, Law and Harrison from those Weiss teams and there's a lot of defensive scoring that Pokey Antowain Smith and a couple quick receivers couldn't replace.

As much as i don't like McDaniels and the pass first offense, it kept he team afloat and basically kept a deteriorated defense able to play with a lead.

Not apples to apples at all. We've got the defense now to dominate some games, so i hope McDaniels is successful with a similar approach to weiss.

Excuses

The Super Bowl winning Pats never made them.

Weis won championships with Wiggins, Marc Edwards, Patten, Brown, Givens. McDaniel has more to work with than Weis ever had.

What the hell are people talking about? McDaniels called 1 SB as OC and Brady had them in the lead with 2 min to go. It also wasn't his call to not have Ghost attempt that FG.

Bill OBrien was the OC in 2011. Idiots.

McDaniels has failed in 2 SB appearances.

Nope. Wrong.

You either became Pats fan in 2012 or you are a troll. Because any true fan knows OBrien was the OC in 2011

If you were a true pats fan, you would know mcd has only been to 1 SB with the pats as OC. But that doesn't fit your agenda so we will throw it out

Please BB bring him in as a assistant we haven't won a Superbowl since Weis was on the sidelines I think if anything he could help with the receivers or at least be another voice in the meeting room thoughts?

Ah, there are a lot of things that start with "we have not won a Superbowl since..."

  1. The Patriots have not won a Super Bowl since Tom and Gisele started dating...
  2. The Patriots have not won a Super Bowl since they replaced the grass with turf...[my favorite, of course ]
  3. The Patriots have not won a Super Bowl since the Parcells' players retired (might be some truth to this)

I think the best option is to fire BB and replace him with Weis.

still only scored 14 points in a game with 70 degree temp and no wind.......in a season where we averaged 36.8 and our low was 20 in bad weather

but brady had a sprained ankle.....but neal got hurt......but.....but......but

Weiss had a great offensive line to work with. I remember at times Brady seemed to have all day to throw the ball. Brady was also younger and, thanks to that line, managed to throw the ball to any open receiver.

Our offensive line isn't what it used to be. There is no guarantee Weiss would have success on the Pats of today.
