Just heard from a KU booster that Charlie Weis has been fired this morning.

Not that he'll be coming back here but if Tom/Josh/Bill/anyone needs a sounding board Charlie will have a little more time now.

Please BB bring him in as a assistant we haven't won a Superbowl since Weis was on the sidelines I think if anything he could help with the receivers or at least be another voice in the meeting room thoughts?

Pats averaged 9.8 points more in their SB appearances under Weiss (20, 32, 24 = 25.3 ave) than under McDaniels (14, 17 = 15.5)
Pats regular season pt average in the 3 SB years under Weiss nearly matched their SB output (ave regular season 23, 22, 27 vs 20, 32, 24). Under McDaniels, the 2 SB years regular season output doubled their SB loss output (37, 32 pts vs 17, 14)
Different eras....but something to be said for consistency on the biggest stage

Of course, he had the benefit of the greater defense. It declined and is just now recovering (IMO). I'm still a big Charlie Weiss fan, but we have moved on.

The fact of the matter is, there's one person in common between those eras and that's BB. His generalship masked a lot of deficiencies as the team ascended, then kept a high standard despite glaring deficiencies due to drafting low and losing the Parcells era defensive core.

It's easier to rig your results when you ignore things like Law's pick-6 in the 2001 SB, isn't it?

Considering how well McDaniels has fared since his return compared to how he fared in his first stint I am not that high on the idea of bring back another OC who failed on his own.

Loved Weis, etc. But that ship has sailed.
Folks forget that Weis like every OC made bonehead calls. I remember a fiasco in Miami where Pats driving well moving the chains yet Weis calls some risky plays that put us 3rd & long killing drives.
Nobody's perfect.

I do think guys like Weis could consult looking at All 22 and give BB and Josh another viewpoint focusing on offensive tells & predictability.

Can he coach O-line? (pleeease!)

Weis and Crennel will forever be proverbial backup QBs in this town.

No. His success as a Patriots assistant was tied to a specific time with specific players; same goes for Romeo Crennel.

Interesting how many of the Patriots Proteges have flourished here and floundered in other places... Crennel, Weiss, Pioli et al.

They can bring back Charlie as some sort of consultant, but not as a coach..

Bill O'Brien seems to be an exception... but stay tuned.

Why not? Some people are better as HCs rather than coordinators and vice versa, just because Weis hasn't been a good college HC doesn't mean he won't be a good OC.

Weis and Crennel both succeeded as coordinators elsewhere. They're just not head coaches.

McDaniels had a boatload of bad luck heaped on his plate. He'll get another chance to show what he's capable of.

Dimitroff has done very well in Atlanta, and Pioli had an up and down time in K.C..

McDaniels SB high output was 17 points....good enough to win 2 SBs in the Brady era (13 yrs)

not that I would mind Charlies input on matters offensive.

I'd prefer to hear from Dante/Scar.

Weiss and Crennel left for HC positions.. Weiss at Notre Dame(not very successful considering their standards), Crennel(NFL record of 28-55) that was my point, that neither one were all that successful on a big stage...

Was not referring to making a later move...

McDaniels seemed to be in over his head...

Dimitroff has done well, not convinced that Pioli did all that well, as a quick google search turns up words like "laughingstock" in KC..

Our drafts have seem to gotten better since Pioli moved on... all of these guys benefited from being in the shadow of BB... who had final word.
