Patriots Line holding up just fine apparently...

The sentence you were specifically referring to that made you diagnose her as a "comedy writer" was this: which is clearly a reference to the team as a whole, and not just the linemen- and so in that regard if they end up 3-1 after four games, they have "weathered" the first quarter of the season.

The article is about the OL. The OL was horse **** against the Raiders. They've not weathered a damn thing, particular when, even if you buy your interpretation, they are only 2-1 when they should be 3-0.

That's only "weathering" if you're a blithering idiot. I gave the author the credit of not being that stupid. Thus.... comedy writer.

I think that the receiver corp is a worse problem than the line. This year the WRs SUCK! No one except Edleman can get open; Brady has to wait too long to find an open guy.

Meanwhile I watch Sanders rip of yard while we have the Junior Varsity WRs and a gillion dollars of cap space. If the Kraft's had been more obsessed with assembling a great cast for Brady (i.e. as in Denver) instead of saving money, this would not have happened.

Except that you weren't referring to the entire article, you chose to pull up a specific sentence to refer to, and a sentence that happens to refer to the Patriots as a team, and so in that regard, if they end up being 3-1, they have "largely weathered" the first quarter, however way you chose to put it.

I would describe the OL as tentative, slow off the ball, too much thinking and not enough blocking. It's a work in progress, without the progress so far. It's the opposite of what a DG OL is supposed to be. With DG and the Draft, I thought they were trying to get bigger, more aggressive and more physical. Instead, much of the time you see last year's finesse type schemes without quite the technique we are accustomed to seeing, both in pass and run blocking.

Everybody talks about Stork, but I would like to more of Fleming too, especially at G.

Context. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

They've not "largely weathered" the first quarter, at all. Claiming they have just demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the word.

Since you wish to be snide, let's go there:

2
: to bear up against and come safely through <weather a storm> <weather a crisis>

12. to go or come safely through a storm, danger, trouble, etc. (usually followed by through):

So, they can't have weathered the first quarter of the season because

  • They haven't gotten that far (they've only played 3 games, less than 1/5 of the season, not 1/4)
  • They've lost a game that they shouldn't have (therefore they did not come safely through)
  • They've had to change the personnel multiple times
  • They've been getting their QB killed precisely because they've been failing to bear up

Was this little Miss Jen McCaffrey thing even born before 2000?

More ignorant bimbos in men's sports…terrific.

Which is why I said she would be prescient if we were 3-1 after tonight.

If we do end up 3-1 after four games, despite awful performances by the OL, isn't that pretty much "weathering," i.e., surviving a rough patch? I would take 3-1.

To be fair, in Miami is a game they were 6-6 in under Brady. That game was going to be a toss up regardless of who was playing, and that fact was actually discussed a lot on this board (people overlooking the Dolphins in week 1) even before the Mankins trade. Obviously the way that game went they could have won with better OL play in the second half, but I'm not comfortable guaranteeing that given the weather and their history in Miami.
