The problem with Peter King

Ya that is the problem with him. Skip Bayless is on the other side of the spectrum.

But without Peter King, who would remember to compliment Tom Brady every now and again?

Seriously, the only time I ever read MMQB is when there's something about Tom Brady in there -- because I know it's going to be a compliment.

He's still writing stuff about the NFL?

"Dude, a bunch of NFL front offices types knew what was on that Ray Rice tape (and likely saw it), and have spent two full weeks trying to convince everyone that they didn't, and that they deserve to remain in power. Who's the ******* mob, again?"

That's the winner.

He should change his name to Peter Court Jester.

Whoa, felt like I was reading an article written by Neal Page about Del Griffith.

Thanks for this. I've wondered for years why exactly I followed Peter King. I finally unfollowed him a few months ago when I realized he rarely tweeted about anything of substance.

The real problem with Peter King isn't just Peter King (though he certainly does his share), but the corrupt system of which he is a key component.

Think about it.

Every year, he is one of 40 or so voters who determine entrance to the NFL's Hall of Fame, one of only three electors who has no "home town" constituency.

At the same time, he works for a major, national media outlet and makes his living by being able to get access to NFL owners, players, coaches and administrators. Those very same owners, players, coaches and administrators all know to a man that, one day, Peter King is likely going to have a vote on either themselves or on someone important to them. So, he not only gets all the access he wants but he goes virtually unscathed and un-criticized by all but a handful of bloggers or commentators who don't give a **** for one reason or the other.

So he tweets stuff like the nonsense in the article and he pontificates on Starbucks and Hotel Programs and local Beers and hammers any poor working stiff who happens to cross him or catch him on a bad day...why? Because he can and he knows no one who counts will say a peep.

Peter King was the 'writer' and insider while Dr. Z was the NFL expert.

Peter King is like Simmons, a fan, a writer. Reading them is not for learning it's an entertainment piece

..... he is a self aggrandized writer to gets way too much attention and has an over inflated view of the shyt he writes...

He is just another brick in the wall...

I'll admit, reading MMQB was/is a guilty pleasure of mine. I have found in recent years that I skip a lot more of it than I used to, hitting on things that might interest me, and ignoring other things; and always ignoring the holier-than-thou stuff.

It's fluff. No way around it.

I liken it to taking a night to yourself. You grab your favorite array of comfort-food snacks and watch a classic movie you know you'll love but isn't high art; like Die Hard or Predator (yes, these are my classics, sue me). You're not going to brag about it because it's not cool or intelligent, and to others, it seems dumb, but you indulge anyway.

But I don't get up for it anymore like I did years ago. I actually made it a point that I'd have my morning coffee, or lunch break time, while taking in some of the more insightful stuff here on Patsfans, like Idle Thoughts and the like. Maybe I'm closing the feedback loop, but **** it, the NFL is entertainment for me.

EDIT - Though, the Patriots might be a religion almost...

Yup. Him and Saint Tony Dunge make quite a pair, eh?

They're like those two chipmunks on the old Warner Bros cartoons who are always complimenting each other, seeing who can be the most outlandish fop.

Thanks SVN! enjoyed the read, especially the first few paras on his mind boggling tweets. :D

He has no balls...Peter Queen

Seriously? That bugs you about him? Cripes he writes about those things much as a normal person would - and would love to after they've been screwed over by a hotel or airline. If you think he's on the outlook for "some working stiff...on a bad day" then you either don't really read him much or maybe don't read him with an unbiased eye.

PLus, he's wrestles with the HOF thing constantly- he's plagued by the process, and the fact that writers choose, not former players or coaches. It's your right to complain but you ought to be as fair as you seem to be insisting King should be.
