Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich still playing 100% of snaps

They'll be gassed by the end of the season... again... if they keep playing 100% of the snaps. It would be nice if Buchanan and Moore could step up. Easley can also line up at the 5-tech, though I doubt the Pats will use him that way.

Buchanan is coming back from a injury, Moore is still a developing prospect and 60 snaps isn't that much.

Hightower can also do the same job as Ninko/Jones in some situations.

Anyway, As the season goes on, the Pass-Rush should be a bit more diversified and there should be less of a workload to both of them.

First, it is only week three and the Pats played only 60 defensive plays on Sunday. Let's see what happens as the season goes along.

Second, at least Nikovich is not playing 100% of the snaps. Week one, Ninkovich only played 40% of the snaps. He only played 31 of the 74 defensive plays.

Third, so far the Pats have been good at getting the defense off the field. Last year, the defense had troubles in stopping drives and spent long stretches on the field.

Chandler Jones is 24 years old and 265lbs.
Rob Ninkovich is 30 years old and 260lbs.

60 snaps in week 3 should not be a problem.

Wilfork on the other hand is a 33 year old man near 400lbs who is not a pass rusher; he should not be on the field as much as he is.

Again it's week 3. Things can change

yeah, week 1 nink played 40% and people were complaining about that

would you feel better if the team faced 80 total snaps and these guys only played 75%?

This exactly, they're complaining about the % of snaps instead of reading the number. A starter who can't manage 60 snaps a game through the course of a season should rethink his conditioning.

Now if we're looking at 80-90 defensive snaps a game, the picture changes a little.

100% of 60 snaps isn't bad. It's the same as 60% of 100 snaps, which would probably have absolutely nobody complaining about "60% of the snaps (also 60, incase anyone is math impaired)", it would actually probably have the board questioning "why is CJ only playing 60% of the snaps???"

60 snaps a game is about 85% of what he played per game in 2013.

Rob Ninkovich has 250,000 reasons to play in at least 75% of the defensive snaps this year.

Am I crazy, or is it kind of a nobrainer that you defer your opinion about how many snaps a player can handle to the coaches who work with him every day?
Is that really a decision that anyone is qualified to think they know better from afar?

People who think Michael Buchanan can develop and come in to spell one of these guys obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. Buchanan will never develop enough to do that. I don't care if he looks the part. He has to play the part. That's the rub.

And you know how?

how many snaps does jj watt play?

All I want is to keep em both under 1000 in the regular season.

If we do that I will be overall happy. If they can get away with less in a few blowouts all the better

????

You and I both understand how important it is to have someone to backup Ninkovich and Jones. We both understand that a full season of having no backups will likely result in two nicked up and tired players.

Belichick will play with who he has every week. It somewhat sucks that Mayo, Hightower, Ninkovich and Hightower need to play 100% of the defensive reps.

Don't YOU believe in a DE/OLB rotation with more qualified players?

We are a player short. Buchanan may be that player, or not.

IMHO, we are extremely vulnerable to an injury to any of the four defensive front seven players now playing 100% of the defensive reps.

BOTTOM LINE
Don't we agree that the most serious weakness of the defense is the relative lack of depth at DE and LB?

I am more concerned about DT and potentially safety depending if what we have seen from Chung is going to last or not. And compared to the offensive problems, depth at DE and LB is pretty minor at this point.

Siliga is dinged, Chris Jones is dinged. Easley is dinged. When they are healthy, Wilfork won't be taking all the snaps. Buchanan is dinged. Moore is till too raw. Easley is dinged. But there are people on the roster to give Jones a rest.

And you know how?
I watched him in college. No heart. NFL body. Little production. Against Big Ten offensive lines. Same reason I knew Tavon Wilson was a ridiculous reach at the second round. I watched him in college.
