Greg Bedard is going to have some good OL talk on 98.5 from 2-4 Tues 9/23

3 up:

Hightower - even in pass coverage
Mayo - great in middle, getting better every week, 3 QB pressures
Ch Jones - all over the place ever since they got him out of the 5 technique

3 down:

Solder - 5 QB pressures, 5 bad run blocks, just.... not good
Cannon - 5 QB pressures, 1.5 stuffed runs allowed.... not good either
Hooman - just cannot run block

Bonus:
Collins - blown up in the running game, only 20 snaps

Bedard likes what he's seeing out of the defense, thinks it's legit

Been wondering about this too, why is Hooman taking more snap than Develin. Hooman outright suck.

But Greg Bedard has 20/20 hindsight that it was a bad idea to hire this guy.
Of course Greg Bedard would make better decisions about hiring football coaches than Bill Belichick.

Here's Dante Scarnecchnia, FWIW:

Asked if he felt awkward hearing fans plead for him to return, even if just as a consultant for new offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo, Scarnecchia shook his head.

"I don’t pay any attention to that," he said. "They have a very good coach there. He’s going to do a great job."

Sure, Scar's not going to publicly rock the boat. But I also have to believe that Scar was consulted about potential successors.

Did he have confidence in him or does BB have so much confidence in his own coaching ability that he feels like he can hire any coach? I mean, does anybody really believe that Matt Patricia is really coaching the defense?

What would make you think that? BB has pretty much stayed out of the OL and left it to Scar. Do you think that Scar was not consulted about who might be a good fit to succeed him?

Hooman must have some very serious pictures of both BB and McDaniels.

I honestly have no idea. He was fired from an underperforming Miami and NY team and was out of football before the pats hired him. I find it hard to believe this is the best that Scar and BB could come up with.

I can't listen to those guys very often. They're too annoying. It isn't even what they say half the time. Their voices are just obnoxious, and I hate fake gimmicky crap anyway.

One is a total hack of a Patriot fan and the other sounds like a Masshole stereotype, which being from Mass, I don't take a lot of pride in. I'm from Western mass so the combination of Mazz's probably exaggerated Bostonian accent with his juvenile smart ass routine just goes through me like nails on a chalkboard.

As a rule, anyone who would make one hell of an annoying neighbor doesn't make a good radio personality.

The only reason anyone listens to them is because they want to listen to Patriot stuff all the time and that's where you can get it through out the weekday. If either one of them think they have a successful radio show because they're talented, I'd have to laugh.

Thinks they've let the playbook get too dense, and it's a big problem

McDaniels is the 2nd smartest guy in the building, next to Bill. Is a great O.C.

Goodell should be out. Owners should look beyond their pocketbooks and wallets, and need to appoint an independent commissioner for the football league.

Friday's press conference was the final straw. Goodell doesn't understand what transparency means.

The league is better than this. The owners are better than this. To put that guy up there is a joke.

By the letter of their law, Goodell is unfit for office (listed rule about appointing Commissioner)

I've been wondering this for years. I don't think there is a good answer to the problem but I think it is hard for new players rookies, Galloway, Chad Johnson, anyone else to catch up to Brady and this O. But what's the answer? There are guys here Edelman, Gronk, Brady, and others can run everything and the newbies need to catch up or they will move on to someone who does. Unfortunately I think that means some talent goes under utilized here.

The offense is obviously complicated and Brady and the like obviously have it down pat but others can and need to figure it out. And I think they will Dobson, Thompkins, and Amandadolla have been here for a long time now and if the oline can get going I still believe one or 2 of the 3 will step up.

Personal conduct policy has been an utter failure

Man, he is just crushing Goodell.

Best line so far by Felger. People are wondering why it looks so bad up front and it is pretty simple: You have a sports talk radio host coaching a tuba player. That is how Tom Brady is on his ass every other time.

It is a funny line, but totally irrelevant. I know they are overplaying this stuff for entertainment of talk radio, but there are a few solid NFL players past and present that do not have an extensive football background (see Stephen Neal) and coaches have spent a year or two away from the game and come back.

The only thing about Gooch's and Devey's pasts that they brought up of any relevance to me is that Gooch coached underachieving o-lines in NY and Miami.

This will happen the day after it snows in hell

In a draft deep like this it's fair to ask couldn't they brought someone better than a 26 year old rookie tuba player?

Would require government coercion.

Which I wouldn't be opposed to (nationalize sports), but it's not going to happen. Not now, probably not ever. And the owners aren't about to see their hearts grow three sizes.

I honestly have no idea. He was fired from an underperforming Miami and NY team and was out of football before the pats hired him. I find it hard to believe this is the best that Scar and BB could come up with.

You might want to check your facts. Here's a few:

1. DeGuglielmo worked for Tom Coughlin on the Giants from 2004-2008, including the 2007 SB team that defeated the Pats. He was the assistant OL coach from 2005-2008. The 2008 Giants set franchise rushing records for rushing yards and YPC.

2. DeGuglielmo left the Giants after 4 years and went to Miami in 2009 to become OL coach, where he was reunited with Tony Sparano, with whom he had previously worked at Boston College. During that time he also worked with Brian Daboll, who was the Miami OC in 2011. During that season Reggie Bush rushed for over 1000 yards for the first time in his career. Miami gave up 34 sacks in 2009 (17th most in the NFL) and rushed for 2231 yards.

3. DeGuglielmo was hired away form the Dolphins by the Jets (not fired) in 2012. The Dolphins fired Tony Sparano after the 2011 season, and new HC Joe Philbin wanted to bring in his own staff, so Miami gave the Jets permission to interview DeGuglielmo. During his single year with the Jets, among other things, he was known for publicly questioning the decision to start 2011 2nd round bust Vladimir Ducasse:

He was fired by the Jets after that debacle of a season, and spent 2013 in Radio. He was the 10th Jets coach to be fired that offseason, including the OC who hired him, Tony Sparano. Not surprising. He's worked with a number of top linemen, including D'Brickashaw Fergusion, Nick Mangold, Jake Long, Chris Snee and Shaun O'Hara.

I'm not defending DeGuglielmo. The OL sucks right now, and if it doesn't get fixed his head will eventually be on a platter. But the OL sucked last season under Scar, so it's not like he's turning an elite unit into a pile of sh*t. And it will take more than 3 games to sort things out, one way or the other.

Geno Smith is not the future for the Jets. He just doesn't have it. He can't process the game well enough. He's too slow on his reads.

Rex not the coach to take the Jets to the SB. He can't pick an OC or a QB.

Broncos have improved, without question. As good offensively, much improved on defense (right now). Will still be about which team is healthiest at the end of the season.
