So we're down 3 games, going into the 4th and getting to 25% of the season.

I think depending on what Bill thinks of the bottom end of the roster, we may place someone on the return IR (siliga, dobson)? So that when browner and tyms return, we only have to drop one person off the 53 rather than lose two...

If you dont use the designation by midway through the season its really useless, because at that point either an injured player wont be back in time for the season, or will simply be kept on the roster for 3-5 games while healing...

Not so sure Tyms will even be on the roster. It'd be crazy to throw Dobson on there so Tyms can play. Siliga played at least last two games (maybe Miami?) and looked fine to me.

I'd keep the IR designation for as long as possible, especially in case a LB needs to go on it. So thin there.

Siliga left the Raider game with a foot injury and was declared out quickly (for the Patriots) which led to twiter speculation it could be non trivial. If he's out for a while he could be the IR-DtR as they may sign a big guy to take his spot.

Browner is another issue, with Malcolm Butler getting no snaps against the Raiders they could try to sneak him to the practice squad.

I dont think Butler will be able to sneak through once and if cut. Too many teams out there looking for good corner depth.

I agree but we have so many DBs and we'll be adding another one. He seems like the logical one to go.

Cant we dump Skinner? Isnt he still technically on the 53?
We can, but we currently have 5 CB and 5 Safeties (if you include Ebner), this would give us 11 total which is a lot, 6 CB, 5 S. Skinner has to be our bottom player but the roster would be mis-shapen with all those DBs and only 4 (Mayo, High, Collins, White) LB unless I missed one.

The Pats only have to make room for Browner. I say the chances of Tyms making the 53 man roster is about 10% and that is if someone get hurt on Monday night.

I don't think you waste the in season IR designation to make room for a player. I am sure there is someone at the bottom of the roster who is expendable. What if they use it on Siliga to make room for Browner and Chandler Jones goes down the following week with an injury that will take 6-8 weeks to heal? Then they will still be in the same situation if they didn't use it to fit Browner on the roster. And it may force the Pats to IR Jones all together.

Only reason I say Skinner is just the fact that he looks lost out there and also Collins comes off on third downs as of now and Ebner comes in. Yes Its a heavy loaded backfield that will add an extra body after next week but I think in Belichicks mind Butler is more valuable than Skinner at this point.

Ebner seems to be on his way to being the "big nickel LB/S" BB has been trying to find.

Agree, that could be the one arguement for getting rid of Skinner for a non LB if Ebner can be a rotational LB of sorts.

If Dobson and Thompkins can't both be gameday actives, I don't see how Tyms leapfrogs either of them, so I bet he's headed for the practice squad. I think the IRDTR spot should be saved for if a major player goes down - Gronk, one of the good offensive linemen, Wilfork, a starting LB, Revis, etc.

I wouldn't make any move until Sunday's game has been played.

Siliga looks like a candidate, for the reasons mentioned. But what about Dennard? He's obviously got a problem still.

There was some question that he may have broken a bone in his foot.

I see Dennard as the top candidate for this spot.

Given our crazy depth at CB I wouldn't be surprised if he lands on the IR outright. Obviously, it depends on what exactly the complications are. If they are trivial then of course this will not happen and you can ignore me.
