The endless search for DBs has burdened the quality of drafting....nothing to show for Wheatley butler dowling Wilson... A lot of quality was left on the board in the name of a wild goose chase

If there is one criticism with the New England Patriots drafts since 2008, an overemphasis on defensive backs and a complete neglect of interior offensive lineman which results in the following:

Wendell
Connolly
Devey
Kline

take you pick.......the list of guys who were not reaches at the time these guys were drafted is endless...not hindsight kind of guys...I'm talking obvious ones...

barwin
max unger
orlando franklin
leasean mccoy

on and on.......I'm not saying that every pick needs to be a strike, but out of wheatley,butler,brace,dowling,wilson.......if the pats generated 2 starters out of all those picks, they'd be so much better off

This team with D'Qwell Jackson makes me breathe a lot easier about how we'll stand up come December.

He got 4 years/$22m/$11m guaranteed to start for the Colts. BB wasn't giving him that kind of deal to be the 4th LB.

You need a minimum of 8 DBs, and probably 10 or 11. You need 3 to 5 Interior Offensive Linemen, half the number. CBs are the best athletes and the toughest to find.

Yet three of the six cornerbacks currently on the New England Patriots roster were originally undrafted free agents:

Arrington
Browner
Butler

Your argument is a major fail.

Yall really have gone off the deep end. All of the complainers should be banned IMO. Yall are just cryin little nitpicking babies. We have been the most succesful franchise since 2000 in the NFL and yet all yall can talk about is mediocre results. Are you guys on crack? One miracle play and one dropped pass from 5 Super Bowl wins instead of 3 and almost a perfect season and you guys are complaint about mediocre results??? What planet are yall from??

Haven't seen them play this season? Even most of the biggest homers are acknowledging significant problems.

That is only 3 of 11 DBs. Where are the other 8? BB gave up too soon on injured Dion Butler, and some draftees had there careers shortened with injuries, like Lee Bodden. You draft and sign and trade and draft until you find the right number of answers.

BB has already invested 4 First Rounders on the current Defensive line and 3 at LB.

Now its the time for the interior Offensive line, having drafted the Offensive Tackles high already.

He screwed up royally with the DBs. Why bother defending something so obvious?

No I see a carefully planned and thoughtful attempt to upgrade an interior Offensive line grown old and always undersized and talent limited. With most every other position rebuilt, BB is turning his attention to the talent-limited and undersized interior Offensive line. An interior line that may have contributed to the loss of two Super Bowls and an AFCCG appearance.

Do I see birthing pains? Sure I do. But @ 2-1, playing .667 ball, while undergoing the worst of reconstruction, is somewhat reasurring, but not entirely.

There are three starters on the interior of the offensive line. There are two starting cornerbacks and two starting safeties on defense. For every four defensive backs drafted, three interior offensive lineman should be drafted. Not one interior offensive lineman has been drafted in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft since 2005. In the same time period, nine defensive backs have been selected in the first three rounds.

Your Monday morning Quarterbacking and aim is unbeleivingly accurate. There is an old Proverb that goes something like this:

Those that Can, Do. Those that Can't,Teach. And those that Can't do either, Critique.

The career expectantcy of an Offensive lineman is 10+ years. The career expectantcy of a DB is less than half that. Compare Apples and Oranges, Please.

There are problems but yall are firing off the deep end with lafell, KT, Dobson and amendola. Most can't comprehend when you run 6ol sets with the offensive line that isn't working, you ARENT going to get offensive production that is expected.

Defense doesn't have any issues this year. I find it hard to display we have "significant" problems. We have a significant PROBLEM with the oline but what else beyond that on offense. Seriously what else? When your oline gives up pressure, Tom has to get the ball out quicker, when Tom gets the ball out quicker, less time for reads, which then leads to lower skill position production. Conclusion: oline is offenses problem, nothin else

Defense, all stats are top 5, many top 2 in the league through 3 games. Whether you want to discount the competition or not, the defense has been what is needed the last few years.

Now this thread is on drafting, which despite all the know it all's that think they know something about running an NFL team, this has been the most successful since 2000 in the NFL. Yes we have missed on the DB's in the past, but guess what, EVERY team has had problems drafting at a position of need for several years, and have also, like the pats every year, draft 1 or more starters and even pro bowl or all pro players.

Stop making excuses.

Furthermore, Bill Belichick cut Brandon Meriweather (former first round draft pick) and James Sanders (former fourth round draft pick) for two undrafted free agents, James Ihedigbo and Sergio Brown.

They are giving out free samples of the Bryan Stork Kool Aid something fierce right now. He looked solid in his reps, but they were limited reps at the end of the game against a week defensive line, I think we need to take a moment on Stork before we hand him the starting center job.

I'll take a turkey sandwich over Wendell at this point though.
