LaFell

I was never thrilled with this pick up, seems like a good guy but if he was any good why did the panthers let him go and the word on him in Carolina is he has hands of stone. Sure seems like a ocho in some respects. I hope he does well because it would be great for the team. But I worry that TB is to focused on Edelman and Gronk these last couple years, he just doesn't seem like he goes through his progressions anymore. As far as Lafell goes, it's only two games but it is concerning.

Dobson's 6'3" and good in the end zone.
Tim Wright is 6’3” around 230lbs. If you put him, Dobson, and Gronkowski on the field together you have an imposing lineup, with Edelman being the only smaller receiver.

Two key details about Lafell that may not afford him many chances:

1. He's only making 3 yrs 9 million with just 3 million guarenteed.

2. He's a WR3 type talent. This isn't trying to get Ochocinco or Lloyd on page with Brady, who were studs at some point in the league.

I still feel it's a futile effort to get Brady in sync with post-groin injury Amendola and a career average at best WR in Lafell.

1. Edelman
2. Dobson
3. KT

IMO, BB should move on with this trio as our main WR core, but clearly he disagrees.

He would save only 305,000 on the cap and they'd have to pay another player on the roster. I think people that just want to cut every player that isn't an all pro by mid season should be required to get a note from Miguel saying it makes sense.

Yeah, it was a great idea wasting a season on Ochocinco.

Dobson, LaFell and Gronk would all appear to be end zone match up nightmares especially when you combine the three. Why not give them an opportunity to make a play?

I think they will. Gronk and Dobson were injured.

LaFell is an outstanding run blocker, arguably the best run blocking WR in the NFL, he will become more a threat as pass catcher, right now they are using him mainly in deep routes and that is not really his game.

I don't know much about Lafell, but he's purported to be very versatile and he looks strong as a bull on the field. Matchups.

Not advocating for cutting Lafell/Amendola this season. More advocating to stop giving them snaps over Dobson/KT.

Amendola's a sunk cost at this point and will be dealt with in 2015. Hopefully Lafell can be a contributor. I agree there is no reason to cut him this season.

I expect Amendola and LaFell to have a good game tomorrow, I think they will make a point to involve them more, so if they (or one of them) does not have a good game as I expect, then that will signify a much larger problem in my mind.

As much as I am anti-Amendola (and we all know I am) they really have to give him until midseason to either sink or swim, they invested too much into him to just cut the line. I expect him to sink, in case there was any confusion.. .:D

LaFell offers blocking value and special teams value, plus he is depth at all 3 WR spots, at his cost he is solid given what he offers.

I think LaFell is a different type than any of the others, almost a tight end because of his strength. Unfortunately for them, Amendola/Edelman and Dobson/KT are competing for the same snaps, I think. Things will clear out over the years or (antijinx) with injuries, but KT and Dobson should just get better.

They aren't running 5 wide sets with this defense, so guys are just going to have to be ready, there won't be that many snaps for WRs.

If you look back just one year, it really isn't a bad problem to have. Would have been nice to have a couple extra WRs last year, no? If there's a crowd, Brady will manage to use different receivers better than any QB in football.

I disagree. they don't care what posters here think. they'll run the best offense to win the game, even if they run Ridley 40 times.

Lafell seems on track and playing as I (at least) expected at this point. He's not completely lost out there like one of those infamous WRs flameouts of seasons past. And agreed, those guys never recover, but IMO Lafell isn't one of them. He's just our #5 option out there most times. Probably about a WR2b talent on an average talent team. Overpaid a bit sure, but not crazy so. What amount of production would one realistically expect from that spot in week 2 in the first year in a new system. If pressed into it, I'm sure NE could use him more and get results bigger but less efficient stats like the rooks and new guys had last year at this time. But we don't need to. So he's moving slowly, improving chemistry, and playing his role. What I like about him NE's entire corps of WR's and RBs even is that they are complimentary and each seems to have their own talents. Lafell to me is a bigger, possession type WR, more suited for red zone, other spot work where he might out muscle DBs in liue of speed. In any case, his sweetspot is surely a small specialized role, and well down the to-do list of the Offense right now. It'll take time for everything to get ironed out and (hopefully dangerous) roles discovered and defined. As It does for every team in the NFL at this point. Until then he's just an - average, tad overpaid, new-to-the-system, hard working young vet, with good blocking - #5 option. But maybe he'll end up being more dangerous or useful than that in some part-time tactical role NE finds works best for him and his particular skillset. Or not.

I did not know that about run blocking, well that certainly is good. Deep route throwing however are not Brady's best skill set these days.

I gave you a like, but I might have given a winner if you had used paragraphs.

I meant to like this part.

Haha. Yes, looking back over it, it does kinda throw out a War and Peace type vibe. (I'm told)

I have not heard one person suggest cutting LaFell.

I see posters saying they will give Amendola until the end of this season, which is 2 seasons but LaFell is getting 2 games. That is the dumbest thing I have ever read on this board.
ah. Someone who wasn't here for the Michael bishop debates. Good times.

He measured 6'3" at his pro day. That is accurate the Patriots site is not. Wright himself is quoted saying his around 230lbs.

If you want to try and call me on something I suggest doing better research because this half ass nonsense isn't going to cut it. Nice attempt though. I will just continue to operate under the assumption that I cannot believe anything you say...o_O;)o_O;)o_O Oh I stole your line..
