Roger Goodell Press Conference

I actually feel kind of bad for the guy and I am sick of the public outcry. I honestly feel this TMZ story is so overblown and Goodell is facing so much heat for something Rice did. So what that he only suspended him 2 games. He was still suspended and every game is important in a 16 game season. I wonder how the public would react if one of Jason Kidd's domestic abuses were to surface out of the blue. He has played in the olympics and many great teams but is someone like him that much better than Ray.

And I wish the NFL would grow some balls. If its two games stick with it and ride out the noise. If Peterson isn't going to play, don't flip-flop on the matter.

Lastly, it is silly to think that he would resign. He has the support of the owners and would anyone in their right mind quit a job that paid them 44mil last year?

All the teams with the exception of the Raiders and Jaguars have built new stadiums, the billion dollar television contracts are signed and the ratings are great. Why, since this guy has become a $44m PR liability do they still need him?

Joe the cable guy would work for the league minimum plus free pretzels and not wan't any power.

Liar

Just a taste of the media reaction....

It will be interesting to see what the owners do if the media keeps pounding this. They've bent over so far already that they may just have to bend and spread a bit more.

During the Q&A portion of the press conference, a couple of people asked if Goodell was going to face any discipline or step down. His response was "I said I was sorry."

Across the country, I'm sure players and coaches were throwing their hands up in disbelief. "All I had to do to get out of a suspension/fine was to say 'I'm sorry'? Why didn't Goodell tell me that was possible?"

Let's be honest here. We claim the owners aren't acting because all they care about is money, yet the fans aren't doing anything either because all they care about is entertainment.
That's what you call hypocrisy. Unless you're going to boycott the NFL and not watch anymore of the games, it's getting harder by the day to take the phony outrage seriously.
Quoted for truth.

Mongo Rog gushed that Robert S. Mueller III is the FBI director with the LONGEST tenure. As I said, a C student in a "business" curriculum at some rich boy hideaway college in Pennsylvania ...guess he missed the history class expounding on J.Edgar Hoover and his career as director of the FBI...think J. Edgar might have a little more time on the job than Mueller, there ol' Rog ol' boy??????

jeezus, kids 8 years old know this stuff...nothing was answered in this trumped up press conference. Direct questions....no answers..."can't talk about that...can't talk about this.."...What does DeMaurice Smith think of all this, I want to know. The public is NEAR UNANIMOUS by every metric out there right now...99% negative.

I agree. More stations covered the Goodell press conference than covered the President's primetime address to the nation last week. So ya, it's a little overblown.

Bread and Circuses people, that's how you keep the masses appeased just ask the Romans. Worked for about 3 or 4 centuries.

And belittling, discriminating, mistreating minorities is how you receive backlash and have Rome sacked. Take note NFL! That could be you if you push the people to it!

Actually, he'd be a fool NOT to resign. Why put up with the aggravation when he already has all the money he'll ever need to live in complete luxury? Hell, maybe he could come up with something actually productive to do for a change. But then, Roger is a hollow shell of a man -- the closest our world has come to producing a human corporate Muppet.

There's always new stadiums to be built. San Diego isn't happy with their stadium and neither is Buffalo. Heck, the Rams want a new stadium, even though it doesn't feel all that long ago they left LA.

shall I quote YOU for truth???

"this will all blow over in 24 hours" August 28th

please crawl back inside Goodell's rectum and stay there you complete jackrag.

Honestly, the more internet articles and Fox News segments I see promoting the idea of Condi Rice as Commissioner, part of the reason some outlets are giving it so much attention is because Rice's people are probably on the job of getting her Roger's. Like I said, the only reason this would bring down Roger Goodell's reign is because someone else that wants to take over sees a chink in his armor.

The media rarely, if ever, has any morals. Instead they just pretend to in order to achieve objectives.

It won't bring him down, but now the Condi idea has been put in people's heads sufficiently for next time.

This story will only last as long as it produces ratings, which I don't expect will be much longer. The only reason it's still in the headlines today is because Adrian Peterson's case very recently gave it new legs.

I like Condoleeza Rice but she knows nothing about running a sports league so I can't say I endorse her for the position.

The media loves taking down powerful people and/or organizations, so that's when they pretend to have morals.

Where were ESPN's morals when they hired Chris Brown to make a video for the ESPY's? What Chris Brown did to Rihanna makes Ray Rice look like a boy scout.

Any commissioner coming in now would want more power. The owners don't want that.
That is correct Deus. They have a lackey who will sustain any backlash thus providing them the buffer between them and their customers (us) they require. He will not be fired despite public outcry. Roger is not only the buffer for 32 owners, he's also the buffer between multitudes of sponsors. Talk about a no win job. You took it along with the $40 mil salary.
Sorry Roger, but I'm bereft of sympathy for you. You're the guy who keeps 32 owners clean and you're sponsors happy. Tough ****.

Yeah, whether you like Rice or not, believe me, it's no freaking accident that her name keeps being brought up. It's just a covert political campaign that is setting the stage for her ascension to the job, masked as moral outrage

I forgot about St Louis, San Diego, and Buffalo

Considering the baggage Goodell is now carrying and his pricetag, there has to be someone else who could make those deals happen and still run the league without being a lightning rod to it's fans, players, and now some sponsors.

If we all agree to stop watching the NFL this Sunday, I will do it. But if it's half-assed and like a poll ESPN referenced to suggest that about 85% will still watch the NFL. What's the point of me not watching? But I'd definitely do it if a large majority does it.

I haven't seen the poll (or it's sample quality) but 15% is a huge number. Add the recent loss of the Breast Cancer sponsor, along with Beer companies publicly expressing concern and you can see damage occurring. There may be widespread damages in Baltimore and Minnesota.

There are other executives who could do an equivalent or a better job at half the cost. "In the best interest of Football, blah, blah, blah", Kraft is fond of saying. The Road for Roger.

She is INFINITELY more qualified from the standpoint of executive experience than Roger was when he succeeded Tagliabue. She's also much brighter and more principled, and truly loves the game of football. Good thing your lack of endorsement doesn't matter! ;)

No, the media loves to do its job of exposing crooks and phonies, not just take down powerful people/organizations for the sake of it.
