Perfect set up for Tyms

Ya dump a proven NFL WR after 2 games and take a cap hit in the process for a completely unproven WR because he had some catches against JAGS and guys that are FA right now.

Is 40 receptions as a rookie some magical number that predicts stardom? Do I really have to go and get the list of WRs who had less than 40 receptions as a rookie and went on to be good to great players to show you how wrong this idea is?
Who cares that both missed 4+ games last season, right?
Forget that Dobson actually had more yards than any other Patriots rookie receiver since Brady became QB.
Forget that Thompkins only had 23 less yards than Deion Branch did as a rookie. And Branch had 11 more receptions than Thompkins.
Who cares that Dobson missed all of the OTAs, Mini-Camps, and Training Camp because of his injury, right? You're so great at talent evaluation that you know already how his season is going to go..

I was replying to the comment that they are clicking. They are not clicking yet, please watch the games before you write.

In his last year with the Dophins, Welker had:

67 receptions for 687 yards
48 kick returns for 1064 yards
41 punt returns for 378 yards

I would say that 156 touches for 2129 yards would be in the "special player" category. I was surprised that the Dolphins didn't negotiate a deal to keep him. That was clearly a mistake.

You're truly amazing.. You go from saying that Welker couldn't stick with the Miami offense to touting his accolades with them..

BTW, Miami tried and failed to negotiate a deal with Welker. Negotiations actually got contentious between the parties, if about.com can be trusted.

If he was a special player, he would have been tendered a first rounder. He was not a special player in Miami.

He was a special player in Miami. The problem was that Miami couldn't afford to tender him at a 1st round level if I remember correctly. Also, the contract negotiations they had failed..

I know exactly what you were replying to and what you said was garbage. And my post proved that. It showed everything you over-looked in regards to Dobson and Thompkins. It shows your lack of knowledge on football as well.

You're one of the last people who should be telling ANYONE else to "watch the games before you write". Especially with the BS you've been posting today.

He was a great special teamer and an average offensive player in Miami. You can argue that they misused him and that he was hampered by Joey Harrington/Daunte Culpepper/Chris Lemmon throwing to him, but he wasn't special in Miami.

Apart from Edelman, things are pretty unsettled at WR. Last week they didn't dress Thompkins after a decent game, then LaFell, Amendola and Dobson came up with one catch among them. Reiss speculated that they did not sit Amendola because once they do that (he is leap frogged by Thompkins) then Amendola is done. I will be curious to see if Thompkins sits again and if so, how the others do. I can see Reiss' position on Amendola, and I think his position could be in jeopardy. Dobson missed so much off season work he we don't know how quickly he can catch up. Boyce is on the PS and we have no idea really how he is doing. I think we are a long way from seeing Tyms.

Another poster already suggested this, but I wouldn't mind if Minitron were inactive tomorrow.
Brady would then be forced to lock-in on somebody else for a change. Besides, if they can't beat
the Faiders at home without Edleman, then there's really no hope for them.

There are going to be some whiners on here when Oct 30th comes and the Patriots announce the release of Tyms.

Hopefully, practice squad.

There was no poison pill in the Welker deal in '07, the Patriots traded a 2nd and 7th for him, they did not sign him it a restricted free agent offer sheet.

Semantics. The Patriots were going to sign him to an offer that the Dolphins couldn't match, but threw in a seventh rounder to avoid the seven day waiting period and the bad PR associated with an offer sheet of a poison pill. If the Dolphins didn't agree to the trade, they would have lossed him anyway because they wouldn't have been able to match the offer. It wasn't because the Dolphins didn't want Welker or didn't value him.
