Perfect set up for Tyms

But Boyce, Dobson, and Amendola would have probably done it vs. the 1s, not the 2s, 3s, and 4s that Tyms faced. The Tyms hype reminds me of the Bam Childress hype. Childress was a preseason stud who went on to have a career of five catches for 39 yards over two seasons.
That's why I put the disclaimer disregarding opposition in brackets @Rob0729. The point is overreactions to preseason form offer little other than to intrigue.

On a team where Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins have both been healthy inactives, Tim Wright has been used sparingly, and Danny Amendola hasn't been used at all, we are expecting a practice squad caliber WR who has played little with Brady to not only be activated onto the 53 man roster but be active on game day instead of Dobson or Thompkins, get snaps and and gain Brady's trust?

Really?

wassamatta? you ain't a fan of "Rudy"?....:D

The only WR who should be concerned about Tyms return is Josh Boyce because the practice squad might only have room for 1 WR. Tyms will not make the 53 man roster.

But will Tyms get enough looks what with Bam Childress, Sean Morey and Quentin Sims out there?

Wes Welker couldn't stick with Miami's offense, either. I'm not sure that tells us more about a receiver or Miami's offense...

Or a coach's inability to use him properly. More times than not, coaches make players try to fit their philosophy, or program.

BB, thankfully, isn't one of those. He tailors to the player's strengths (well, most of the time).

You're grasping at straws if you're banking on Tyms....did he even play a snap with Brady in the preseason...?????
Yes, Tyms saw time with the 1st offense, both in practice and the 3rd game.

I REALLY like Tyms, I wish he would make the 53. Outside of Dobson and Edelman, he's probably the most talented receiver we have. You just can't teach what he has, size, speed, good hands, great jumping ability. Unfortunately he won't make the 53, and will probably be picked up when we try to put him on our prctice squad. I can see the Jets snatching him up.

What makes BB great is he takes guys that others gave up on and make them serviceable cheap players for our team. Tyms looked good for us, i'm not saying that he's the answer but we could use a guy with his size.

As for Dobson and KT, both guys starting last year had less than 40 receptions each and Dobson was a scratch in game 1 and KT was scratched in game 2. I wouldn't call this clicking.

Is 40 receptions as a rookie some magical number that predicts stardom? Do I really have to go and get the list of WRs who had less than 40 receptions as a rookie and went on to be good to great players to show you how wrong this idea is?
Who cares that both missed 4+ games last season, right?
Forget that Dobson actually had more yards than any other Patriots rookie receiver since Brady became QB.
Forget that Thompkins only had 23 less yards than Deion Branch did as a rookie. And Branch had 11 more receptions than Thompkins.
Who cares that Dobson missed all of the OTAs, Mini-Camps, and Training Camp because of his injury, right? You're so great at talent evaluation that you know already how his season is going to go..

Not that I am a supporter of Tyms but had Boyce, Dobson or Amendola put up his numbers in the preseason (disregarding the opposition), posters on Patsfans would have been proclaiming an attainable 1,000 yard receiving season for any one of the three.

And those people would be stupid for basing it on preseason play.

Although based on last year I wouldn't fault people for thinking Dobson could.

If he is so great why didn't he stick with San Fran, Miami, or Cleveland?

If the Coaching staff make thorough evaluation of Brian Tyms and think he has upside the decision to keep him should be easy. Who would you all like on this roster instead of Tyms...Hooman - Chung - Tavon Wilson??? I woudn't lose any sleep if any of those guys are off this Team.

As mentioned before Miami cut the once Great Wes Welker did they know he would become as good? Also I am sure many here including yourself ddin't think Edelman would be this good. Your argument is very weak to say the least guys have come from out of nowhere on other teams and produced. I hope Tyms make it so I can serve you up some well deserved crow...don't worry I'll add salt and pepper.

Any word on what Tyms' weight and muscle mass is these days?

Guy couldn't stick with Miami or Cleveland's simple offenses yet we're suppose to believe he is going to stick with the Patriots? Because why? He he had 11 catches against JAGS and guys that got cut. With about half those catches coming in the 2nd half of the 1st preseason game

Really?

This line of thinking is just plain stupid.
Tyms was on Miami's PS for over a year. He was offered a roster spot with Cleveland last year instead of being on Miami's PS, so he took it.
Last I looked, Cleveland has a new HC this year and the new HC chose to go in a different direction with the receivers. Of course, this was before all the Josh Gordon mess.

Instead of acting like what Tyms did was worthless, why don't you acknowledge that what he did earned himself a shot for this team.

The break down of Tyms receptions was this:

Game 1 - 5 for 119 http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2014080702/2014/PRE1/patriots@redskins
Game 2 - 3 for 29 http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2014081501/2014/PRE2/eagles@patriots
Game 3 - 1 for 15 http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2014082201/2014/PRE3/panthers@patriots
Game 4 - 2 for 25. http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2014082806/2014/PRE4/patriots@giants

All of Tyms receptions against the Redskins came in the 2nd half because they didn't play him in the 1st half. Yet you seem to hold that against him.

Tyms receptions against the Eagles were also in the 2nd half. But they had him out there in the 2nd quarter where he faced some of the Eagles 1st team and he got open several times. They just didn't go to him.

Tyms one reception against the Panthers came in the 4th quarter.

Tyms 2 receptions against the Giants came in the 1st and 4th quarter. The 1st quarter reception came against Trumaine McBride. A guy who has started for the Giants.

I'm not saying that Tyms is going to take the spot of Amendola, Lafell or Thompkins, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats activated him to the 53 ahead of Boyce if there is an injury. I also said in pre-season, I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats moved Amendola early in the season. Something that may or may not yet happen. Especially with so many WRs getting injured last week.

Miami never cut Wes Welker. San Diego cut Wes Welker and signed him to their practice squad. Miami signed Welker from San Diego's PS to their roster and Welker never was cut again.

Your argument is the one that is weak because you are using invalid information.

Wes Welker couldn't stick with Miami's offense, either. I'm not sure that tells us more about a receiver or Miami's offense...

Where do you get the idea that Welker couldn't stick with Miami's offense? Welker led that offense in receiving. The Pats signed him as a restricted free agent and gave up a 2nd and 7th pick for him.

Gotta love the people who just don't have their facts correct.

If he is so great why didn't he stick with San Fran, Miami, or Cleveland?
San Fran had a GLUT of receivers. He was on Miami's PS and got signed by Cleveland to a deal for the rest of the season. Cleveland changed HCs and the new HC didn't have Tyms on his list of priorities. And you blame that on Tyms?

You'd cut a starting safety or #2 TE in favor of a guy who appears to be no higher than sixth on the WR depth chart?
