I think it's time to forget Danny Amendola ever having the 'premier' role in this offense because that duty has and will be going forward put on the shoulders of the fantastic Julian Edelman.

Alot of you may be saying "duh" after what Jules did last season but it isn't really because a large proportion of fans gave Amendola a pass for year 1 because of his nagging injuries and being in the system for only a year. Naturally the thought that given 100% health and more chemistry with Tom his targets and receptions would go up, well even after 2 weeks i think it's pretty obvious he is not going to be making Edelman lose any sleep over receptions being taken away.

I just wanna give my thoughts on Edelman before i get to my underlining point. The guy is an incredible football player, simple as that. His route running, durability, deceptive quickness, great hands and not to mention his outstanding kick returning ability makes this guy truly elite and i am willing to go up against anyone in a debate who believes the contrary.

I believe Julian Edelman is 100% better for this NE Patriots team than Wes Welker ever could be and there are 2 main reasons i think so.

a) the guy doesn't get concussed or absolutely creamed every 10 or so plays like Wes does. It just seems to me that Edelman does not put himself in situations to get hurt.

b) Big play/moment ability. There is no need to relieve the key drops in Welker's NE career so i'll just jump into just how clutch Edelman is. The guy has seemingly always come up with the key catch since Wes left when it's needed, Brady knows where he is with little time on the clock and he'll zip it in there and Jules will be perfectly placed to make the grab.

The scary thing is i don't even think the connection between he and #12 is still 100% complete! There is still room for improvement when it comes to those two and they will both only get better and benefit from it.

So for me personally it is a no brainer i'm taking Jules all day in the now Wes v Edelman debate.

Well, I might do that too...except that Welker was dead to me the day he shyt on US and left for that moonheaded, fly landing strip foreheaded duck thrower.

And yet again, another attempt to crap on a former member of the team for no good reason. What the hell is wrong with you people?

Amendola was never going to be the next WW. People were being dense about that before. My greatest hope and expectation for him is maybe we'll get a full contiguous season out of him one day.

The problem with now saying "Jules v WW" is that WE HAD THEM BOTH BEFORE. And we could have kept having them, near as I can tell.

I can't take a position in this "debate" because the whole topic just makes me ill. I love Jules but I loved having WWW on the team too. And our anemic offense would be better served if they were both rocking an Elvis on the helmet.

Having 2 guys who do the same job when there is no room to do so makes no sense. I like the receiver set they are sending out this season. Jules was a way better decision in the long run. Wes doesn't even play that much anymore and he is 2 concussions away from having brain damage if he's not careful.

I am tired of the Wes Welker debate. He is gone. The Pats have replaced his production. It may not be with the guy they planned to use, but of all the things wrong with the offense a slot WR is definitely not an issue.

Time to move on.

I have always been a fan of Edelman and the team has moved on from Wes Welker but that does not mean we should forget how great he was he put up Jerry Rice numbers in his 6 years as a pat 672 rec in in that time a record and his last two years as a pat 240 rec 2923 yards and 15 TD's only Calvin Johnson had more yards in does 2 years and no one had more rec them him

I do agree. We chased after Wes. He was awesome with us. He left. 6 year legacy. He's our generations Nick Buoniconti.

The WW fan club are pissed again I see. Good to have him back on the field this weekend.

Oh wait. no it isn't.

So are we done picking up former Rams receivers? Salas, Lloyd, Amendola.... Salas was a flier and Lloyd was decent when he was here but none of them have excelled. We can put Hooman on the list too.

Huh?!? Buoniconti was 28 when he left the Pats for Miami and was a two time Pro Bowler in Miami. He was in his prime. Welker was 32 when he left and clearly on the decline. Welker is still a good receiver (assuming he is not what he was post concussion last year), but he is just good.

Although some of the people who took the club side may go overboard to trash Welker, there are also people who still hate the trade who overstate what Welker is now.

I still think Lloyd gets too much crap by people. Especially after what we saw last year from the receiving corp, was he nearly as bad as what people said about him. Remember he got a deal that wasn't even very good #2 WR money.

Wasn't the thing with Lloyd more of his locker room prescence? He had a bad attitude and didn't mesh well with the team

He caught some balls, I'll give him that, but was he ever tackled or did he just fall down whenever he caught the ball? He was like the Law Firm of receivers in that he was solid but never a threat to make a big play.

He moved the chains a lot. Sure his YAC was non-existent, but he did have 911 yards (a 12.3 YPC) and 4 TDs which we would have killed for from any receiver not named Edelman last year.

Amendola ever being considered the next Welker was an insult to Welker, Amendola had been a top target on his team for 4 seasons when he signed here and he never broke the 700-yard mark. Amendola is an average slot receiver capable of a few good games a season when he has a matchup he can exploit. He is not Welker; he is not able to perform week in and week out against any defense.

Edelman is evolving more as a multi-dimensional WR capable of playing inside and outside, even getting up field. Edelman actually became exactly what many said Amendola would be – a bigger, faster, more versatile Welker. I would take Edelman over a 33-year-old Welker with a drug problem, and 1 hit away from being a vegetable, that is a no brainer. If you go back 3-4 years, it would be an interesting debate.

I know this takes so much focus off crapping on the coach and the current players.
