Ty Law NFL Hall of Fame candidate

Ty Law, along with Bruschi, Seau, Rodney Harrison, and McGinest, is on the long list of 99 potential candidates, to be evenutally shortened to 15 candidates put to vote.

He seems to have the best chance of the five Patriots on that list. Maybe not first year, but he is a prospect.

Thoughts?

I hope all five can make it but I need to see the list to see their chances.

I would say all 5 should make it (Bruschi and Willie might take a bit more time for them to get in). They were key cogs in our SB runs and had illustrous careers.

Bruschi and Willie are longshots at best. Unlikely. Fan favorites but not dominating at position and not over period of time.

Harrison, played well enough but tough for safeties

Seau (on Rep) and Law (legit) should get in.... at some point

I saw Willie gets in, probably not a 1st ballot but after a couple of years.

A lot of big names on the list , especially the coaching list it is stacked with good head coaches. Seau and Ty Law are first-year eligibles.

I definitely don't think McGinest is a Hall of Fame player.

Bruschi was a great Patriot, but not a game-changing linebacker. The last two linebackers to go in were Derrick Brooks and Derrick Thomas. Bruschi really doesn't challenge their performance.
Brooks - 14 years without a missed game, 224 games, 1283 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 25 INT's, six-time All Pro, Defensive Player of the Year 2002
Thomas - 169 games, 126.5 sacks, three-time All NFL
Bruschi - 189 games, 1065 tackles, 30.5 sacks, 12 INT's, two-time All Pro

Seau and Harrison have longevity and were key leaders on their teams. They probably have better chances. Harrison probably as a Patriot; Seau as a Charger.

Law seems to have the best chance of the five.
The last corners were Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson. Law's career was not as impressive.
Sanders - 188 games, 53 INT, 9 TD's, nine-time first-team All Pro
Woodson - 238 games, 71 INT, 12 TD's, six-time first-team All Pro
Law - 203 games, 53 INT, 7 TD's, two-time All Pro

Bruschi has a chance for a few reasons - good numbers, great playoff performer, clutch and he has a story.

Seau is pretty much a lock for getting in at the first attempt IMO.

I think they all belong in.

I disagree that Law would be first as I feel Seau might be more of a lock though they both could go in the same year.

I think it would be cool if Seau and Willie got in the same year with #55 Trojan and # 55 Patriot connections it would be cool.

I really hope Bru gets in too. I know some of these guys may not have dominated the league for a decade but they have their own hall of fame worthy stories and Champions like them belong in the hall. If its all about stats then whats the point? we can all look that up and figure out who the best are it needs to be about how you played with your team and what impacts you leave on the NFL as you go and Bru and some these guys certainly left their mark in ways that dont show up in pro bowls and regular season stats (which are pretty great for them too).

I would like to think the Patriot Dynasty will get hall representation similar to other dynasties and that should mean Bru and Willie have a good chance.

Not sure why most seem to think Ty has an edge over Seau and Rodney.

Some of the voting is not purely by the numbers, for that reason, Seau has the sympathy vote. I see as likely shoo-in over more deserving guys.

Rodney left SD and brought titles to the new home. He will go in, but maybe yr 2.

Ty Law left titles on the table with missed ints, left NE, and what did he do then ..... Stats only. You don't get hof (quickly) for that. He still has a chance based on those nbrs, but??

Bruschi is tough to say. I think he deserves to get in based on what he meant to those sb winning teams, but am not sure how recognized that is outside NE. Likely he and willie will fall short on votes from other markets.

Willie gets my first vote, Ty second

Going by the past of what kind and quality of player has gotten in this is how I see it.

Law, Seau & McGinest should get in on their 2nd Ballot - All 3 to me are clear HOFers but not First Ballot HOFers. They all dominated their position for a long period of time.

Harrison on his 3rd ballot - He played amazing for 3-4 years but was not as dominate as he could have been in the other 10 or so. A great player but not good enough overall to be 2nd ballot IMO.

Bruschi should not get in. A very good player but not HOF worthy. A spot in the Patriots HOF is deserved though.

Really only Seau(absolute lock not even worth discussing 12-time pro bowler) Harrison and Law have a shot. Bruschi is a big long shot. Was a great player for us but wasn't dominating the league. He has a big spot in the Pats HOF. Similar story for Willy Mac. I'd say Seau and Law make it with Rodney getting snubbed.

Ty Law, over 800 tackles 53 INT's 7 TD's and 3 rings maybe not this year but at some point in the next 5 years he will be in.

Tedy Bruschi, over 1000 tackles 30.5 sacks 12 INT's 4 TD's and the hart and soul of a defense that won 3 SB's at some point he will be in not as fast as Law but he will be in.

Junior Seau, is a lock for the HOF but not as a pat as a charger this year or next he will be in.

Willie McGinest, is the all time leader in sacks in the post season but only 86 in the Regular season only one year with 10+ sacks only two pro bowls I don't think he will get in.

Rodney Harrison, 1200 tackles 30.5 sacks I think that's a record for DB's 34 INT's 4 times all pro only made the pro bowl 2 times because of does other two safeties that played in the AFC but I don't see him getting in on his first try because a lot of people seen him as a dirty player for most of his career but he will get in

I think it's a little optimistic thinking Mccginest and Bruschi will get in. Greats for sure, but the numbers just don't add up to get into the HOF. I think they're longshots.

Seau I think is a near lock for this year.

I think Ty Law will get in eventually. Maybe it'll take a while, but he has a good shot.

I think Rodneys a 50-50. For his reputation and impact he had over the years I think he gets in but he did not get many trips to the Pro Bowl. The HOF heavily puts pro bowl and all pro honors into factor in the voting. While it's a little unfair, it's just how they judge a lot of guys.

I also think Seymour will be another guy on our SB defenses that'll get in in the first few years he's eligible.

It's nice to be a fan but there are 280 people in the HOF. The only Patriot that was considered top of the heap was Law. Seau (although I have a hard time with this) seems to have a good shot based on reputation.

I have never understood why people think Bruschi is HOF. Loved having him on the Pats but wildly overrated in terms of HOF material. He's in the Troy Brown category. He compares to Takeo Spikes for those citing his numbers.

The number of All-Pro selections seems to be a decent barometer for Hall of Fame selection. From the small group quoted above:

Deion Sanders - nine-time All-Pro
Rod Woodson - six-time All-Pro
Derrick Brooks - six-time All-Pro

Willie McGinest was selected to two Pro Bowls (1995 and 2003). He was not All-Pro either 1995 nor 2003. There were other dominant defensive ends during his career - Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Michael Strahan, Dwight Freeney, Jason Taylor, Hugh Douglas, Jevon Kearse, Simeon Rice, Kevin Carter - all who were selected to All Pro teams. With no All-Pro selections, I think we can say Willie McGinest will not make the NFL Hall of Fame.

Seau, by contrast:
12-time Pro Bowl
Eight-time first team All-Pro; two-time second team All-Pro.
That is a Hall of Fame resume.

Quick summary of All Pro status for these five:

Seau - 10 times (12 Pro Bowls)
Harrison - four times (two Pro Bowls)
