Hey Shank. Bob Kraft or Jerry Remy?

"HAS a lot of personal respect for.... " ????

Do you understand the English language?

His exact words on the subject from the postgame press conference.

“It’s certainly unfortunate. I’ve HAD (emphasis mine) a lot of personal respect for Adrian and Ray, and the whole situation is really unfortunate for the events of what happened, but we all know that it so it’s an unfortunate situation.
Well, I think we need to do what we always do, and that’s take care of our job and do our job and try to do it well. And that’s what we’ll focus on and continue to focus on. We really can’t control anything outside of what we do and we just have to do the best we can and leave all those other things to the process and so forth.”

So you're saying your opinion is he said "Had" past tense. I guess no one else is entitled their own opinion. Thanks for your condescending two cents as always.

On D&C this morning they all said they think he said "Have" not "Had."

Shank is a regular on Zo & Gresch weekly, and that is when I change the channel... he is beyond boring and self righteous, with his monotone dictatorial view of all things right in his world... he really believes he is right about everything....

The nicest changes in Boston Sports is that at one time most of the writers were deified and put on pedestals(McDonough and Gammons). The current crop are bottom feeders in sewage treatment plants, now the power lies with very good coaches.. this extends beyond Middlesex County as in RI we have Bill Reynolds another fossil from bygone days who revels in anything the Pats do not do perfectly..

Ah yes, the days of Duplicitous Pond Scum Will McDonough. Talk about agendas!

Because lord knows, the assclowns on D&C don't have an agenda.

I fully agree that Kraft's answer that morning was tone deaf and the wrong the to say. I even wrote right here on this forum something to the effect of 'Can't someone take him away on a vacation for a few weeks to an island with no telecommunications'.

However, the LEVEL of obfuscation that Kraft showed there is MINISCULE compared to the ACTIVE enabling for over 20 years of Shank's fellow employee which he has subsequently written about with kid gloves.

It's not even close. If you can't understand that glaring difference, that's your problem.

Easy, man, I never went there, as they say. I made no mention of the Remy thing, don't know why you felt like I was making a comparison. All I was talking about was Kraft. Sorry, if I was unclear about that.

I know he most definitely would.

But no thanks. Last time I emailed him about 10 years ago, he called me from the press box of the Seattle Mariners while I was trying to watch the opening night of the Patriots 2004 season. I was holding my then 9 month old daughter and he spent 20 minutes arguing and swearing. I asked him to tone down the language and he asked "Who are YOU, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?" I told him that it was HE who was calling someone's private home (he had dared me to "be a man" and give him my phone number) cursing while I was holding my infant daughter and that if he had a modicum of respect he would show some civility. He grumbled an apology and told me how he appreciated me reading his work, that he hoped I continue to write him feedback and that he'd be happy to email back and forth with me anytime. I declined the invitation. I haven't emailed him ever since. It's not as if he has matured any.

What you say to him?

What you say to him?

It was a very forgettable conversation 10 years ago. All I remember is that a few days before he emailed me back about some comment I had made to him online with something like 'Oh yeah, well I put myself on the line every day in public and you are just some anonymous fanboy. If you have the balls, give me your phone number and I can call you up, but I doubt you will'.

I then responded with my phone number and thought that would be the end of it.

A few days later he calls my home (like the clueless klod that he is, he called from the Seattle baseball stadium where the Red Sox were warming up, just as I (and 90% of the rest of Boston/NE fans) was watching Bob Kraft give his speech on NFL Opening night 2004 (it must've been a Thursday).

Honestly, I forget what sports disagreement we had. I only remember he came on strong, swore his head off at the beginning (which, honestly surprised me, for it seemed so stupid for a public person to demean himself like that to mere 'fanboy'), then softened up considerably as the conversation went on. After the initial buzz of him actually calling my home, I got a bit annoyed with the swearing while I was simultaneously taking care of my 9 month old daughter and trying to catch the national Patriots pregame show complete with banner drop. Basicly, he was an annoyance.

That's awesome man!

Just think about it. A comment you wrote, pissed him off to the point where he basically challenged you to give him your number, so he can "tell you off"

Just seems so petty and unprofesional. You would think things like that wouldn't bother him?

Good lord, tell me you're kidding.

What an unprofessional boob. I knew CHB was an ass, but wow. Just wow.

Yeah, I came away from it feeling a bit of pity for him.....at least for a while. The more we talked the more he calmed down, but he was pretty riled at the beginning. Before he called, I happened to have been in a very serendipitous mood, holding my baby daughter and watching the Pats Opening Night Coronation (i.e. "Wow- - Life is Good"). It seemed like he was coming from a different universe.

The fact that he called at all is telling (and it's not saying anything very flattering about him).

Writers/celebrities, etc. just don't do that.

If he had called and been somewhat civilized at first, it would have been cool. Instead, it was pretty sad and pitiable.

Weirdest part was the phone ringing and seeing the caller ID say "Seattle Mariners". He literally was 3,000 miles away in the Mariners ballpark calling a stranger's home in Maryland to yell and curse.

Liker I wrote earlier, I felt sadness for him at the time. After hanging up, I hugged by daughter, played with my son, sat back and watched the Pats unfurl their last SB banner on national TV and smiled.

The next time the Pats unfurl an SB banner on national TV, I don't want that nuisance calling the house to interrupt! :D

It's still creepy, even if he had been cool. You don't do that. Did you ever hear of the Anne Rice meltdown on Amazon? She went after her critics publicly - said things every writer wants to say at one point or another...but you just don't do it. The backlash was brutal.

When you're in the position of CHB, or Anne Rice or whomever, a significant part of your paycheck/job/reality comes from the fact that you give people something to ***** about. If you can't accept that truth of being a public person, you shouldn't be writing for a major newspaper, or novels.

The level of narcissism it takes to call a reader and try to chew him/her out is staggering. I've never had any use for CHB, but that he'd do something like this just blows my mind. So liek AzorianPats said, make sure you don't answer the phone that night next September!
