Vikings RB Adrian Peterson indicted for child abuse; deactivated for Pats game at Minnesota

Even if there were no marks left, and Adrian Peterson hit his son 20 fewer times, you would still think it was child abuse, correct? The `switch` = "child abuse", right?

Actually no, not necessarily. The fact that you still can't grasp that after having it explained to you by a bunch of different people is either alarming or impressive, and I'm not totally sure which.

This is exactly the straw man that I was talking about. I and at least a 2-3 other people here have tried to explain this exact point to you. In spite of our best efforts, you seem determined to assume that we have no capacity for nuance or grey area in our opinions. And you're wrong. I personally don't support corporal punishment, but I recognize that lots of people disagree with me there, and that that doesn't make them bad people by any stretch of the imagination.

But even if you're pro-corporal punishment, we all saw the pictures. AP has acknowledged what he did. Nobody's debating what happened: all that's up for debate is what AP's intentions were. But again, we saw the pictures. That's not corporal punishment; it's abuse, plain and simple. Unambiguously so. If you can't recognize that this:

done to a forward child and after a week of healing, is obvious child abuse, then I hope to god that you're not a father. Because to anyone with a functioning moral compass and sense of proportionate response, this is self-evidently abuse. There's literally nothing that a four year old can do that would change that fact.

Everyone is so self-righteous on the internet, it's actually sometimes sickening. Like the people who "support a cause" because they reblogged a picture of something. They didn't even have to get dressed, but in their own minds, they're "involved," and they're going to climb on their box and tell me all about it.

For the 50th time, Adrian Peterson should and hopefully WILL be penalized by the law for what he did. His admission about catching the kid in the testicles says plenty about him going overboard, but those marks are scratches. They are what you would expect from using a `switch`. There's obviously a lot more of them then people are comfortable with, and rightly so, but the kid is going to live. Those are scratches, whip marks, just like what would be left had he used a belt.

How am I supposed to label a Father a monster that deserves Death Row when I don't even know what the hell I'm looking at? Is that the same leg three times? Are those different parts of his body? Or it is his thigh shown three different times? Ignore the photos on the right, and just look at the photo on the left, of a leg, with switch marks, and it's potentially not THAT much worse than what an ENTIRE CULTURE in the Southern U.S. dishes out to their kids, only probably more excessive.

You want me to rush to judgement on this, and if I don't I'm a "crappy person who should never have children," but I don't know what I'm looking at with these pictures. This is the problem with captions and pictures together in media stories. It can conjure all sorts of imagery that isn't necessarily the truth.

I can tell you that I've had worse looking marks on my body as a kid from FALLING OFF MY BIKE, so I cannot sit here and demand Adrian Peterson's life and family be absolutely destroyed just so I can show other people on the internet how much I'm against "child abuse" based on a picture and a news story.

I can very easily go to where you are now next week, and call Adrian Peterson a vile human being, a child abuser, and demand he never set foot on an NFL field ever again, but I'm not going to throw the rope around his neck yesterday and say "whoops" next month if it turns out it wasn't as bad as it's being reported.

KHOU reporting AP accused of beating another one of his four-year-olds so badly it left a scar on face

Not that he did it numerous times, he doesn't seem to feel guilty about it at all. He seems like a troubled person that really needs some help. No sane person would do that to numerous of his children. That's got nothing to do with corporal punishment, this is strictly child abuse.

I bet the Vikings will be thrilled with their stance today.

I stopped reading after this. Not only does it have nothing at all to do with the topic, but it just makes it really clear that you're some bitter old dude ranting about random stuff that you don't like.

If having no tolerance for beating a four year old child bloody makes me self-righteous, then go ahead and call me self-righteous. I'd rather be that than an apologist for child abuse.

Not that old, man. I can just let the case unfold and make a judgement. It takes more than a picture and a caption. Like I said much earlier in this thread: A week or a day could pass and more information could come out and it could validate everything you're saying about Adrian Peterson, and very well might, but I see no rush to trample lives without having full command of the truth.

It's a good habit to get into. You don't get to be a `champion against injustice` quite as quick, but you can make sure you've gotten it right, instead of, I don't know, invading another country because someone showed you a satellite photo of a van.

This guy has a problem, and something tells me that we are going to hear more horror stories of abuse from Peterson. He makes me sick. I don't like people who hurt children. These are babies. Preschool children. What the hell is wrong with him?

Who removed that post with all the pics with captions on them? I was going to use the funny button on it. Now I can't.:(

@BradyFTW!, not that I am a particular supporter of @PATS16N0 on this subject but nothing he's put forward to you in your snipped post seems unreasonable. Myself, I have reservations and suspicions but I prefer not to jump to conclusions either. Does that mean I am in the same boat as people who aren't apologists? I would hope far from it as I would like to see Peterson incarcerated if proven to be true.

Has anyone brought up the fact that Peterson allegedly stuffed his son's mouth with leaves? I hear that's just Southern discipline, and it's done out of love, too.

What conclusions are there to jump to? Peterson admitted it to the police. His lawyer all but confirmed it while he was saying that it's how Peterson himself was raised. The only defense that he's put forward is that he didn't mean to hurt the kid.

I mean, WTF can you possibly be waiting on?

Peterson being investigated for ANOTHER child abuse case

"oops I did it again..."

dude is gonna be toast

Details about the second allegation.

According to their report, Peterson was investigated by Child Protective Services in another incident involving another one of his sons, who is also four-years-old. The network displayed text messages between Peterson and the child's mother in which the mother questioned a scar that appeared on their son. She asked what Peterson hit the young boy with, and Peterson neglected to reply, but made it clear that he punished the child because he was cursing at a sibling. One of the messages from Peterson reads: "Be still n take ya whooping he would have saved the scare (scar). He aight (all right)"

All the facts to present themselves. We know Peterson has admitted to disciplining his child and there appears to be a pattern of behavior but I'd like to see the extent of it rather than simply relying on photos on the internet.

Moving past all that, if it comes out that Peterson has a a behavioral issue then he should be suspended indefinitely by the NFL, possibly released by the Vikings and forced to see the inside of a cell for some time. Right now, I would simply prefer to know more rather than relying on board speculation, he says she says and sensationalism. That's all.

WOW.

Not surprising about the second incident coming to light. I'd bet there are more to come. You don't do that stuff to a little child and have it be a one time thing. It's a habit of his, I'm sure.

Right, right. The photos, the texts, the police report, and the admission shouldn't be enough.

Read the link I just posted, and then start explaining that one away, too. Christ, some of you make me sick.

More and more will come...what a scumbag. Yet he is playing...good job Minn..you got all the facts all right
