To say we need a deep threat doesn't tell the story. What is really needed is a complete WR who can win at all levels of the field in multiple ways. Including getting separation over the middle and at the sideline at intermediate range while able to pull in acrobatic catches. And of course able to win deep with speed and athleticism or size and athleticism or both. I have confidence both Kenbrell and Dobson have the raw talent to become that. The patriots need to give them reps in practice more often and challenge the guys in our top flight secondary like Revis Ryan McCourty Dennard and soon Browner( I know sounds awesome doesn't it) with big plays at intermediate and deep range and then try it more often in games with them as they are our biggest fastest Athletes at WR. Coaching needs to find out if they have the complete/deep threat big play WR that can consistently make plays. If Kenbrell and or Dobson can be those guys. Til they find that WR the offense is going to struggle against better defenses and the playoffs.

While I'm confident Kenbrell and Dobson can be and its still early in their career they have yet to step up. And if they are thinking Superbowl they need that WR. Unless Kenbrell or Dobson has proven it then they can't have enough prospects who can be that complete big play WR in my opinion. In the event Kenbrell or Dobson doesn't step up over next several weeks, coaching needs to begin looking at some trade options. Emmanuel Sanders had a 100 yard game already and came comes in the other. I thought he would connect better with Manning or Brady. The whole NFL has been waiting for him to break out, the guy has it all, about 6'0 blazing speed and sharp cuts, acrobatic athleticism and good hands. Patriots should have made a run at him instead of LA"Loser Lafail. Oh well he is a bronco now, so scratch that idea.

To trade for a WR they must first look who is available or could be made available. Just a toying idea to begin with, Blackmon could become available. With new Drug policy he could get reinstated this year. If he does Jaguars will surely trade him now that they have 3 very talented rookie WRs. Patriots disciplined system can help him keep straight and focused on some winning football while he helps team with being a complete big play WR they need. Another option Denarius Moore, Sterling Sharpe firmly believes in a good system with a good QB he would be an elite explosive playmaker. He has been right bout many WR breakouts including Brandon Marshall, Antonio Brown, Rice back in 2009, and Jordy Nelson and was first to say Victor Cruz's big preseason was no fluke. Watch Denarius Moore Highlights and you will see why Sharp is excited bout his talent. They could also get him with a Round 4 pick at the most. If cardinals drop from contention Fitzgerald could become available if he takes a pay cut.Same can be said for Andre Johnson. Jaguars may even part with one of their young WRs but not likely and it would take a strong offer like a pick and young prospect like Zach Moore or Buchanan. Arrelious Benn is available but he may not be same since his injury. He was cut by WR loaded eagles. Anybody out there have any ideas who could become available. However it would be better if Kenbrell or Dobson stepped up consistently. Just think they need a back up plan so they don't go into the playoffs without that established big play WR.

We need to get rid of Amendola and replace him with a competent WR.

When will people realize we tried to get Emmanuel Sanders and couldn't? The Steelers matched our offer and a year later the Broncos made Sanders an offer for way more than he's worth given the amount of balls he drops. Julian Edelman is our Sanders, and he's better than Sanders anyway.

I don't think we need to trade for a WR. We just need Dobson and Gronk to get into game shape.

I'm more concerned about the running backs,

Can we just remember one thing right now

This was the 2nd week of Gronk and Brady being in game action together.
This was the 1st week of Dobson being back in game action with Brady.

Gonna take a little time.

Besides Thompkins being inactive gave me the indication that they were gonna run a few times. Which it was a 61/39 Run/Pass ratio yesterday. Yesterday was all about playing a game the way the 2nd half should have been played last week.

Besides it's not like Brady was 55% percent because a lack of WR. He was 68% on the day. If the game plan was for it to be 61/39 Pass to Run. I'm sure we should have seen Dobson targeted a few more times. Amendola only saw 19 snaps because of the game plan. Gronk only saw 28 out of 67. Wright the move TE only saw 8 whereas Cameron Fleming the exta OL saw as many snaps as Gronk. Ridley was in there 37 of 67. Vereen only 20.

This isn't the game to be wondering about WR after.

Vrabel...your point makes no sense. you say we "couldnt" get sanders..BUT the reason is because another team paid him "more than he's worth."

so what you are saying is, we could get him...

with our track record, i would love to overpay a free agent WR IF, for once, he didnt suck

No-one can honestly say that Sanders would have come in here and done what he is doing with the stat-monger. He could have just as easily been LaFell these last 2 weeks, targeted only 6 times with no receptions.

what we need is a solid possession guy. DA looks injured and uncomfortable, Dobson/KT have too many drops and Lafell hasn't done much. I'm hoping that Dobson can step up and be a 60 catch guy with 5-6 TDs

I will be very happy as soon as Gronk gets healthy and Dobson and Wright get up to speed. Combined with Edelman, this will give Brady more than enough receiving options. Having Thompkins, Amendola and LaFell as backups is fine by me.

The Broncos gave Sanders $6 million per year for three years.

We gave LaFell $3 million/year for 3 years.
We gave Edelman $4.25 million/year for 4 years.

If we got into a bidding war with Denver we wouldn't have Edelman or LaFell, and we also get to keep Edelman for 4 years. Oh, and did I mention Edelman is better than Sanders?

you said we "couldnt" get sanders...i dont care about that other stuff, i didnt comment on that.

The Patriots have a balanced team atm.

We are a B grade for our WRs, a B grade for our running backs, a B grade for our TEs when Gronk is healthy and imo a B grade for our QB (who i'm confident can go back to being A+ with a bit more confidence in the OL).

We have some deep threats (Dobson), we have some redzone targets(Lafell, Gronk etc), we have some yard moving possession types (KT/Amendola) and we have some rbs that can catch out of the backfield.

We just don't have a true number 1 threat while Gronk is still injured (and even then, he wasn't a Hernandez type in the receiving game). This makes our offense very much subject to the team we play. I have no doubt some games we'll get 350+ yards of passing, and some games we'll have 150+ yards on the ground.

Oh, sorry pedant. We "could have" gotten Sanders but if we did we would have been morons. Cue the "Robert Kraft Is Cheap!" marching band.

i may be a pedant, but at least i dont have to make stuff up to prove a point

and youre right, that qualifying offer to sanders 2 years ago was a good offer

im sorry i thought we won a blowout last week in a game where the offense didn't even have to play so they just ran it all game.

did i miss something?

I can't decide if LaLoser Lafell is a lamer nickname than Aaron Dropson. I guess I would have to go with equally lame.

Tom Brady is second to last in completion percentage, only Henne is worse.

And this is almost 80 attempts, lots of balls thrown and we can't just sit around and say wait for Gronk. Why can't we get a real WR not named Edelman, the rest of the guys disappear so quick it is disgusting to watch.

someone has said it already they would not have signed both Sanders and Edelman and Edelman is a much better player, I don't mean to burst anyones bubble but sanders was not going put up the stats his putting up with Denver with the pats, they just need Gronk to get back to the way he was playing before he got hurt last season and the Defense has to keep playing good
