Analysis of the Pats by a Vikings Website. Pretty solid read.

"The bigger problem is Jordan Devey, who may be the worst starting guard in the league, and borderline unrosterable." lol

Great read. Thx.

Alfonzo Dennard is a very good cornerback, but if the question is him or Greg Jennings (or Cordarrelle Patterson), the Vikings may have the matchup advantage. For the Vikings to succeed through the air, this will need to be a critical matchup for them to win. If the Patriots would rather choose to play Logan Ryan, that may make more sense and he would be a little tougher for a player like Patterson to deal with.

Wished he had elaborated on Ryan > Dennard, I would have thought the reverse at least at this stage of Ryan's experience level. .??

Also, he didn't touch STs. Now that KOs are non-plays I guess that doesn't matter, but the pats PR team is good and PK suspect ( at least based on their first attempt), I know jack about Vikes STs to compare.

Is there a smiley for "sad, but true"?

Thanks to the OP for finding this gem.

Best quote of all at the end of that analysis:

"The Patriots are the most diverse team in the league. Per NFL Game Statistics and Information Systems, the Patriots deployed the third-most offensive unique lineup combinations and the fourth-most defensive unique lineup combinations, combined for the most overall in the NFL with 72 (the average team deployed 47). The second-most were their opponents, who adjusted to their personnel groupings with their own, putting together 66."

Holy crap! No wonder guys struggle with the playbook. If my math is right, the Patriots showed 25 unique offensive lineup combinations. That's great for confusing the defense, but if it confuses your own guys, what's the point?

On defense, that guy nailed it with the 2nd half 3-4 two-gap adjustment that resulted in a 23 point outburst by the Dolphins. Maybe as a change of pace once in a while, but the personnel did a nice job out of a 4-3 in the 1st half and helped Vince Wilfork be productive.

Maybe they smoked some crack before drawing up the game plan? I'm honestly not sure.

Nope, I don't think so. We dominated them in the first half. So the crack smoking, if any had to happen during halftime.

This was great, I wish we could hire this guy to analyze all our games!

Once upon a time, there was an old o-line coach used to make each guy pick out the two or three worst plays he made in the game and analyze what went wrong. Then everyone else would chime in.

This reminds me of that. I laughed on the fly sweep play (first Connelly gif). Connolly did his job, which was to lure Mitchell to the bait (Brady) and seal him. If that's one of Connelly's worst plays I think we can live with him on the o-line.

Exactly. His guy was as far from the play as anyone. If he can do that without expending a lot of effort while making his opponent second guess the value of beating Connolly off the snap, so much the better.

The Vikes analyst had a lot to say, but the GIFs he used to illustrate some of his points often didn't support his points, which throws some of his analysis into question for me. Connolly on the jet sweep is the worst of them, but it wasn't alone. In criticizing Devey's blocking, he includes an outside zone to the offensive left, where Connolly is asked to come across the face of the 1-tech DT, who is angled in on the Center, to make his block. The Pats asked their interior OL to make that sort of block a lot last year, and frequently got burned by it. In this case, I'd put the blame on Connolly for not recognizing the turned-in DT and chipping before moving to the 2nd level. He's the one making the line calls, after all. As it was, Devey didn't have a chance. Even one of the GIFs illustrating Brady's inaccuracy under pressure was flawed, as he hit Gronk in the hands in a tight space.

Still, his breakdown of the inside zone draw against the 3-3 nickel where he notes Jones and Vellano 2-gapping and WIlfork playing the A-gap seems right, as do his breakdowns for other plays depicted as GIFs, so I won't throw out the baby with the bathwater, but I have a hard time accepting his generalizations at face value, when the specifics of his analysis (which he presumably spent far more time on than the generalizations) are somewhat spotty.

Good stuff in the article asside. That was my only contention. I think fans of opposition teams sometimes hope brady is doing somehting wrong but more times than not someone else has screwed up.

I.E the "brady was inaccurate even with no pressure" then showed brady throwing it and hitting his recievers but them dropping it... or the gifs where brady was throwing with both outside and inside pressure.

That said, no article is perfect and i really enjoyed the writer's take.

Excellent article..I say Ditch Volin and SIGN THIS BEAST!
