Revis became Revis Island because Rex Ryan was smart enough to use him as the guy who shadows the #1 receiver the entire game.

Last year, the Greg Schiano's Bucs used him incorrectly in the zone defense and now to start off the season, Belichick is as well.

There is absolutely no reason for this bull****.

Both completions Revis gave up were when he was go against Miami's #1.

What you mean is: Will he use him like you think is the only and proper way to utilize his talents? I'm sure if you let BB know this info, he will correct the error of his ways.

He also didn't know how to use Chandler Jones last week either.

I was absolutely flabbergasted watching Bill Belichick getting thoroughly out-coached by Joe Philbin.

Just casually watching the game, it looked like Revis was primarily used in man coverage against Mike Wallace last week. How is it you would want Belichick to have used him? Cover 2 zone? Man coverage on somebody other than Wallace?

One game doesn't make a habit or a permanent use of a player. Let's talk after 4-6 games have been played out.

Not standing 5 yards off the LOS would be a nice start.

He's at his best when he can get his hands on a receiver and reroute them.

Sorry, but i dont see how Patricia doesnt get blame here. Hes garbage, always been garbage, and he has a girls name.

Edit to rant more: hes been a dumpster fire type of garbage as any kind of defensive coordinator. Ok, im done. :)

Are you kidding? One of the fastest deep threat receivers in the NFL, with no safety help over the top, and you want Revis to play press coverage and reroute him at the line? Where is he supposed to reroute him to? There's no help. It's one-on-one. Revis' game is running with receivers in man coverage without help -- aka Revis Island. That looks to be the way he was primarily used the other day. I never saw any safety help on Wallace (which is pretty amazing, if you think about Wallace's speed).

You are describing Browner's game, but he would never be asked to do that without safety help over the top... That would be insane.

maybe he was only Revis Island because of rex ryans defense ? im just saying he was notting more then just a good CB before ryan got there and that's what he is now, but it was just one game lets wait and see how the season plays out

"...he has girl's name...??? Is this what it's come to? Holy ####...

I think there is a common theme where posters assume Belichick makes every decisions, every play call, every player substitution. He is overseeing the 3 phases of the game and the coordinators for each phase. The coordinators are making most of the in game calls. Belichick does more of his adjustments and coaching during the week.

Hold on there Sheldon Cooper, thats what we call "sarcasm"... Simmer down
LOL, an essential element in sarcasm is the presence of satirical wit. Sorry, epic fail...nice try...

Why are so many posters and the media making the mistake of assuming that Belichick is the pigeon holing kind of coach that is so rigid in his thinking and scheming that he will pound his round-peg players into square holes?

If anything, he is the opposite.

Maybe his fault is in asking for too much versatility from his players.

Im guessing his game plan is as it always has been and that means it is going to change week to week depending on the opponent. It wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't trying to coach his players to be comfortable in every kind of defense and that might mean having players like Jones and Revis playing in a 3-4 as well as a 4-3 and in zone as well as man-to-man.

The Dolphins game felt like growing pains or maybe even just an experiment. There was nothing about it that felt like Belichick had suddenly changed his stripes and is about to pigeon hole his players permanently into roles they aren't suited for.

I don't know exactly what the right way to use Revis is, but I'm pretty sure the worst possible way for any CB to cover Mike Wallace is press-man without safety help.

I have my reservations regarding Patricia but the blame lies with Belichick. Belichick's defensive genius has not been on display for some time now. That said, it appears that he foresaw the direction the NFL was headed and move toward an offensive system. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the more things change the more they stay they same.
