New league drug policy. So is Browner allowed back?

So if HGH is banned, does that mean smaller and slower players all around the league? That might be a good thing in the long run, less wear on the body from big hits.

On the other hand, a lot more Ki-Jana Carter career trajectories after ACL surgery than Adrian Peterson.

New league drug policy was just voted on. Heard mention that Gordon's suspension went from a year to 10 games and Welker should be available this week. What about Browner? His suspension was for marijuana as well.

No. Browner is NOT back yet. Even if he was, he wasn't dressing this week. Plain and simple.

Furthermore, though the players voted, there seems to be issues still remaining and so:
Gordon's suspension hasn't been changed yet.
Browner's Suspension hasn't been changed yet.
Welker's suspension hasn't been changed.
Tyms suspension hasn't been changed.

Call me crazy, but I'm not a fan of the HGH testing that was just agreed upon. Reduced recovery time for major injuries is a good thing, in my book.

I understand the argument against it: it's enough of an advantage that some players will feel compelled to use it, even with the effects of long-term use still largely unknown and potentially harmful. But I think the era of nine-month ACL recoveries is just about over.

You're not crazy at all. You're right on the money.

I have thought that steroids and HGH used for therapy should be allowed under the supervision and with the consent of the league and if the use is without supervision and approval the sanctions should be greater. If a drug is useful to recover from an injury and benefit an individual it should be allowed.

No, he doesn't play for Peyton....

This is a distraction, nothing more. The NFL has been saying they wanted this done for a long time and suddenly when the sh.t is hitting the fan they manage to hammer out a deal in short time and gain the headlines. I'm fine with them getting a deal done but the timing is as suspect as it gets.

I wonder what they'll do with Tyms. I'm assuming they'll be an exemption for this week, but assuming no injuries they'll have to make a cut somewhere. Hoomanwanui?
If a spot doesn't open up among the top 5 wide receivers, then they'll just cut Tyms. They're not going to cut a co-#2 TE in favor of a #6 WR.

I agree with you, Sciz. I'm not sure why so many have assumed that Tyms' job is safe when the 4th game has been played (or sooner if the ruling allows him)? I think he's got quite a long road ahead to try and make the WR grouping if there's not an injury that he can benefit from.

That said, I'd definitely like to see him clear waivers and resort to our PS to continue his developmental work. Hell, I'd even consider cutting Boyce to do so if that's what it comes down to. I'd be very interested in seeing him again in the offseason, or even if/when an injury or opportunity presents itself.

I always thought Tyms was a safety valve, kind of like someone they kept on speed dial.. after has Amendola ever played 4 consecutive games???

Given the Peterson situation, which is now coupled with the Rice and Jones situations, this will be a little blip on the radar.

I also think about half the league will fail HGH tests unless they find a way around it.

It's so obvious that many players are on HGH. Look for the blown up head size like Hines Ward… Ndomakong Suh, Terrell Suggs, look very suspect. HGH is going to be it's out scandal eventually.

Peyton Manning is guilty as sin.

You clearly don't know the difference between HGH and ROIDS. HGH does NOT cause bones to grow in that manner.. That is roids..

HGH could have been legitimized in the case of supervised offseason injury recuperation, with a cutoff date sometime in the summer. But CBAs aren't about common sense, and neither is the league's punishment system.

Jury is still out I think.

Trying to find out how revised drug policy affects Brandon Browner. Asked NE source for knowledgeable info. Said he's seeking same thing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT NFLPA BOARD OF PLAYER REPRESENTATIVE VOTE ON DRUG POLICIES

“The Board of Player Representatives gave the NFLPA authority to complete new drug policies with the League consistent with detailed term sheets the players reviewed. We hope to have final agreements, including effective date for players with adjusted discipline, very soon.”

I think the reason everyone is ASSuMing that Welker and Scandrick will have there suspensions lifted is because the new agreement moves amphetamines from "performance enhancing" to substance abuse category. So your first initial test for a substance abuse drug does not warrant a suspension.

Plus of course, because it will benefit Peyton.

That depends. If the Pats offense doesn't do a little better than 30 net yards, 4 punts, 2 fumbles and 1 first down in the first six possessions of a half, there will be a lot of positions opening up.

And they're going to hand one of those positions to a guy who hasn't even practiced with the team in two weeks?

It's not like a random group of scrub free agents could produce LESS offensive production than the Pats "stars" did in the second half in Miami. If they keep playing like that, a lot of veterans will be losing their jobs.

I expect they will improve, but it is what it is until they demonstrate the ability to execute a drive longer than 14 yards and keep the QB from getting killed.
