Vikings RB Adrian Peterson indicted for child abuse; deactivated for Pats game at Minnesota

I know you think you're taking some high-minded approach, but you just look like you're being a contrarian for funsies.

Yeah, maybe lol.
Internet after all.

Yet... I can still wait.

What did the texts say?

Do your own homework. Start at Deadspin.

Or look right above you.

Wow, that's quite the leap from the little that I've heard. You really think its that serious??

When I made my post there were pictures that appeared to be of a 4 year old's arm bloodied up because AP went old school with the lumber. Those photos were taken sometime after the incident (obviously) and they LOOKED pretty bad considering that time had passed and the wound had probably been cleaned somewhat by the time it was taken. (To me, on my monitor, in my home.) Kids are just as serious business as women are and, for me at least, the crime is just as revolting as the other one.

So it's a leap, but at time of my post, I thought the possibility is on the table, ESPECIALLY because of the timing. (From a marketing perspective alone, if that makes sense.)

This is the same AP that called the NFL slavery, had a child he didn't even know he had die in the care of another less than a year ago, and now this. I know he seems nice in interviews, but there's obviously some issues with the guy. And this would seem to demonstrate they're not "past" issues. I'm not saying he's a monster, etc. (I don't know yet- need to read more.) But there's now stuff you can point to in recent history that are red flags of past behavior that won't help him in the court of public opinion which is going to be hungry for more action from the NFL to clean up its ranks.

So yeah I took a kneejerk leap, but my thinking above justified my perspective. I'm just now signing on to see what additional info there is.

I went after people who didn't take what Rice did seriously until a video surfaced, but from what I read, at least today, it isn't quite the same. In the Ray Rice situation, it was attacker and victim saying the same thing, with a video showing him drag her body out of an elevator. Obviously she took a serious shot.

Not sure this is that conclusive yet.

4 years old is really, really young, but I haven't heard a detailed enough account, I don't even know what it's too young for. I don't know what the "switch" looked like, I don't know what the kid did, I don't know really anything, other than an allegation of child abuse accompanied by a vague story lacking all kinds of details. Maybe the news pages have updated with more information since I last saw them.

I have absolutely no idea how `outraged` I should be (more accurately put: how much disdain I should have for AP), so there's no sense in me just picking an arbitrary level of anger with minimal information. It seems to be a pretty fuzzy story still.

So you're saying that you're deliberately avoiding reading the info that's already out there, because you'd hate to have to change your mind.

I don't see any rush to judgment here. I started this thread, and in the very first post I cautioned against it. And that probably wasn't even necessary, because it's pretty much the default mindset for the majority of posters around here. But his attorney has admitted that he hit his child, the kid is four years old, and there are leaked text messages of him admitting that to the kid's mother. Worst of all, photos of the damage all freely available and posted all over this thread.

At this point, it's anything but a rush to judgment. The facts that are available to us speak for themselves, and what they say about AP is pretty damning.

I went to two sites 10 minutes ago. It was the same thing as before. An accusation of child abuse and the alleged saying it was him just disciplining his kid.

I haven't seen text messages.

My position is simply that there are levels of physical discipline that I would not employ myself, and would find distasteful parenting, but also do not think reach the level of child abuse, especially if an isolated incident, and don't think it necessarily would warrant a WACO stand off on his front yard.

What news sites with all of the absolutely incriminating evidence are you looking at?
I'll take a link. Maybe you just have better websites than me

Appreciate the thoughtful reply. I agree that the NFL is in a position that forces them to take a "no questions asked" type of stance against any type of abuse (women/children) - at this point appearences may superceed reality.

HOWEVER, we are talking about AP here, one of the single biggest stars in the sport. I would be absolutely shocked if he was banned for life.

Unbelievable.

".....The beating allegedly resulted in numerous injuries to the child, including cuts and bruises to the child’s back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum, along with defensive wounds to the child’s hands. Peterson then texted the boy’s mother, saying that one wound in particular would make her “mad at me about his leg. I got kinda good wit the tail end of the switch.”

Peterson also allegedly said via text message to the child’s mother that he “felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I (sic) thigh” and also acknowledged the injury to the child’s scrotum in a text message, saying, “Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I’m all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!.......”

Peterson's OWN words. Are you REALLY going to continue on that path?

I told you a while ago: Deadspin. They're constantly updating. But you're just going to come back wmscreaming "Inconclusive! I wasn't there!"

I hope to God that you're never in a position where you're the only one between a child and abuse, because that kid would be so screwed.

Do you not know how Google works? Because any of the top results for "Adrian Peterson text messages" will get you the information that you claim to be unable to find. Sorry if I'm coming off as kind of a ****, but I'm the third person in this thread to link you to this information. In any case, just go ahead and click here:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...erson-admitted-to-whooping-son-with-a-switch/

Nick Wright of 610-AM in Houston reports that Peterson told police he gave his son a “whooping” in a May incident in Spring, Texas. According to the report, Peterson said he did it to punish the child for pushing another one of Peterson’s children while they were playing a video game. The report says Peterson grabbed a tree branch, removed the leaves and struck the 4-year-old repeatedly.

The child’s injuries reportedly included cuts and bruises to the child’s back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum, along with defensive wounds to the child’s hands. According to the report, Peterson texted the boy’s mother and acknowledged what he had done and that she would be “mad at me about his leg. I got kinda good wit the tail end of the switch.”

Peterson also allegedly texted the child’s mother that he “felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I [sic] thigh. . . . Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I’m all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!”

According to the report, the child told authorities, “Daddy Peterson hit me on my face” and said he feared Peterson would punch him in the face if he found out police knew about the incident.

There's no lynch mob here, and complaining about one is just straight-up trolling at this point. The facts speak for themselves, and if you can look at that and see anything other than child abuse then I really, really hope you never have a kid.

If the reports are true that AP used an object to hit his 4 year old son in the testicles and hard enough to cause lacerations on other body parts then this is beyond simple discipline.

You mean the "appearances" of his OWN TEXT MESSAGES????????

I'm thinking about kids that I went to school with. I grew up in the sticks in Massachusetts and there there are some pretty hard, old school country people out there. My friend and his brother used to get some serious whoopings from their parents when they were out of line, well above and beyond anything that was ever going on in my house with my Mother's wooden spoon.

Both of those kids did great in life. They're both upright, strong, 21st century John Wayne Americans, who love their parents and strongly value family.

If you put a hidden camera in their living room at a specific time and threw it on television, it would be easy for a lot of people to demand those kids be taken away from their parents and put in Foster care, which would of been a far greater crime in their situation than any ass kicking their father gave 'em on their farm.

Maybe AP is a whole different can of worms.

With that family and others like it as part of my experience on this Earth so far, I just don't want to prematurely pretend I have any level of expertise on what is happening in his home.

So a bruised kid means immediate indictment and a cop shooting an unarmed kid ala Michael Brown takes months to 'investigate'?

Not taking sides in either incident, just observing.

This case has been under investigation for months and went before two grand juries before an indictment was issued. There was nothing immediate about it.

So you're just not going to go to any of those links, are you?

Also, abused kids who grow up to be well-adjusted adults do so in spite of the abuse, not because of it.

My father abused me, my sister, and my mother. He left for good before my fourth birthday. I still managed to grow into a reasonably normal life forrm. Should I send him a thank you card?

Wow. I didn't see that. That's definitely incriminating.

Not same situation at all.
