In some respects that would almost be preferable. At least my expectations would be set appropriately and the rules would not be so subjective. What they have today is just a crap shoot. Will a flag be thrown? Let's throw a D20 and have the 'field master' find out.

No. They're just his pupper masters who will toss him aside when the heat gets too hot.

People that think he shouldn't lose his job are the fanboys. Every scandal that has happened under his watch he's looked utterly clueless.

Well, his job survived this week so I have a hard time imagining the level of outrage from this incident will do anything but gradually die down. Our 24-hour media cycle will move on to the next thing eventually. By the time Mueller releases his report months from now, no one will care.

Actually, I have spent time in meditation searching my feelings on the topic of #FireGoodell. I have found that it would be very acceptable if he were to be fired. Not, personal, just business .

The next thing is liable to be the indictment of Adrian Peterson for child abuse. I'm not sure that's really going to work very well for him.

Not work very well for whom? Goodell or Peterson? I think what we are going to see is a lot more deliberation by the NFL and consultation when it comes to punishment for these sorts of things. Whether talking about Hardy, McDonald or Peterson, the league is going to make sure all i's are dotted and t's are crossed.

Considering this entire crapstorm hitting Goodell stems from the fact that (ironically) he was too lenient on Ray Rice, I can't imagine we will ever see leniency from the league again. They should do what I said all along they should have done with Rice: Totally throw the book at these guys and let the NFLPA be the assholes defending abusive boyfriends/husbands/fathers.

I can understand blaming Goodell for handing the Ray Rice situation poorly and other various issues that have popped up but really... blaming Goodell for the conduct of athletes is incredibly weak. He is Adrian Peterson's employer, not his personal overlord and guardian.

(And even that statement isn't accurate since the league office itself isn't Peterson's employer, the Vikings are)

If I hadn't already been convinced that Roger should take early retirement, this would definitely have put me over the edge.

That's exactly the point I am making. New cases will come up and people will stop talking about Ray Rice (in fact a "new case" already has come up - sure didn't take long). If the league does the right thing in the Adrian Peterson situation, time will pass and people will conveniently forget about how they handled the Ray Rice incident.

The little things are getting really bad, and have been bad for so long we're numb to how bad they are.
The fines against Hightower and Jones are a great example of the Goodell regime. It's good that Ray Rice has been dealt with, and now it's right IMO for people to circle the Goodell wagon.

We know the NFL is headed in a direction. A lot of that direction will remain with whoever hypothetically replaced him, but maybe, just maybe, the game outcome wouldn't feel so... engineered... as it sometimes often can now, with the throwing the flag for one thing, then not for the same thing, and defenders being fined significant chunks of their pay for clean tackles.

Goodell era has been one disaster after the other, and has hurt the league. He had little to do with the spike in NFL popularity. The internet was booming without Goodell, cable was becoming a household thing even for people in the sticks everywhere without Goodell, and entertainment in general has spiked along side both of these things everywhere without Goodell.

The above pretty sums up the Goodell haters perfectly. They want to blame the guy for everything wrong without giving an ounce of credit for everything right.

Everything bad is Goodell's fault.
Everything good would have happened anyway.

You're right. The reality is that everything bad would have happened anyway, too. Goodell is little more than a puppet dancing on strings.
