I'm all in on Aaron Dobson.

The need for Patriots fans to stupidly bash players that the Patriots passed on borders on the pathological.

As does the need to belittle and insult the posters that express an opinion different that yours.

This board is just FILLED with posters loving on picks we didn't take. People can have a different opinion than yours without it being pathological.

Now if you want to talk about the psychology of Patriot fans to hate a little on ex-Patriots that have chosen to move on to other teams in FA.. well, I think there's definitely something there ;)

I was hoping we could at least make it half a page in this thread before devolving into argument over something inconsequential. Sadly my hopes were dashed :(

Can't we take a page out of the BB playbook and just "focus on the players on this team"? We've got enough problems on our own 53, no need to bash one another over some NFC team's WR.

I'll add to the debate...

I never thought that I'd utter these words, but I'd happily take Dez Bryant at this point. I think his physicality alone is superb, and that he's grown up with some of his attitude concerns.

Now...whether or not he'd be able to actually pick up the system is something altogether different.

In the meantime, we'll continue to hope that Dobson can grow into a decent WR.

Keenan Allen had injury concerns before the draft, he turn out to be ok, better, a top receiver from the get go, but I understand why the Pats passed him, had BB drafted him and he gets IR'd right after the Dowling fiasco, he simply could not take the risk

The very next year, this year, he spent a #1 on Easley.

Almost as bad as declaring a draft pick the Pats make a bust because he wasn't a need even though he was a huge need and then say that even if he becomes a great player, he will always be a bad pick because he wasn't a need. With the way you declare players that Pats actually pick a bust before they even hit the field like Jamie Collins, I wouldn't cast stones.

I can only speak for myself, but I was just responding to the comments that Patterson is a Pro Bowl caliber receiver and "the most dangerous player in the NFL with the football". The guy has potential, but it hasn't been met as a receiver.

can we not compare Dobson to patterson/keenan allen at least until we see Dobson play this season? Dobson could be primed for a breakout year. seems he is finally healthy and we could see him this week.

McCourty vs Dez was a silly discussion then, and it's a silly discussion now.

Yeah, neither Dobson or Patterson have yet to show they are great offensive players. Each had one or two elite games, but otherwise they are both more potential than production. Not unexpected for players who have basically only played their rookie season.

Besides, it is really Patterson vs. Collins, Ryan, and Boyce since that is what the Pats got in the trade for the Patterson pick. The jury is out on that trade. Boyce looks to be a dud, but Collins and Ryan have potential.

If he stays healthy you won't be disappointed by my estimates. Even in his rookie year he was beginning to come on strong until the foot injury so with a year under his belt you'd expect a good season. Unfortunately, we probably won't have any idea how healthy he really is until he actually starts producing.

I was against that pick too, but after all I understand that this is a risk he could take, the only shot at drafting one of the top prospects of this draft. The year before was still recent, one more year away from the Dowling pick and BB got his credit for risks renovated.

Collins, Ryan, Boyce, and a good season from Blount.

Just as that "horrible looking trade" for San Fran's 1st during the 2007 draft turned into Jerod Mayo + three years of Randy Moss.

Hey guys, Cowboys fan here, but I closely watch the Pats for fantasy football. I always draft Gronk, I draft Brady when I can, and I'm a big believer in Vereen this year.

Anyways, I drafted Dobson in every single one of my five fantasy leagues this season. I've been watching Dobson closely since last year.

I just feel like he is going to end up being Brady's only true deep threat and I keep having these visions of his being Brady's poor man's version of Randy Moss. Am I way off base here or do you guys agree with me? I stuck it out with him when he was a healthy scratch last week when I could have picked up some other guys. I'm still a believer. Thompkins and LaFell just don't have the talent that Dobson does.

Since this thread has turned into a Patterson thread, let me go in another direction. As a Cowboy's fan, what is the general consensus of fans on Jerry Jones?

I've never met the guy, but my wife's family has a modest place that overlooks one of his summer houses. Several of my wife's family have met him years (10-15) ago, they said he was friendly, engaging, and charming. The kids used to spend a lot of time up there and have a slight partying reputation, but that may have been gossip, they pretty much kept to themselves and never bothered anyone (a deputy sheriff often was on site to shoo away anyone who got too close to the house). In recent years I think it is the wife and grandkids that mostly stay there, I guess the kids are into the family business now.

To be clear: I don't think he is much of a general manager. However, clearly he is a very smart guy and an absolutely brilliant businessman (if you don't believe me, look up: http://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2014/08/20/the-nfls-most-valuable-teams/).

If I was a NFL owner, I'm 99% sure that I would follow Bob Kraft's lead and hire smart people and not interfere. However, 1% of me remembers years ago before I went into academia and I managed a small group of researchers. My boss and I busted our butt to bring in a research contract that looked like lots of fun, involving travel to an interesting place, several weeks of work at an interesting national lab. We were looking for some underling to train to do the job, and we looked at each other and said: "Why should we bust our butt only to have someone else have all of the fun?", and we went ourselves.

I guess there is a small part of me that understands a guy who busted his butt and now "doesn't want someone else to have all of the fun". ;)

How do you and other Cowboy fans view him?

"Oh just stop. Patterson isn't a pro bowl WR. Dobson in less games had a better receiving season then be did last year.

Also zero guarantee Patterson would have even picked up the offense."

1. Patterson made the probowl last year. That is a fact. Dobson didn't come close to the probowl.

Patterson DID NOT make the probowl as a WR. That's a fact. Patterson didn't come close to the probowl as a WR.

2. Patterson scored 9 touchdowns last year. 9 for a rookie is absurd. More than twice as many Tds as Dobson. Patterson already broke for a 67 yard TD in week 1. That's only the beginning. Patterson will get at least 12-15 total Tds this year.

3. Why couldn't Patterson pick up the playbook? Because hes super talented? Because he's got freakish breakout speed?

A) He scored an 11 on the Wonderlic. B) his interview with the Pats when they brought him in did not go well.

What makes you think Dobson can pick up the playbook?

He already has.

The need for Patriots fans to stupidly bash players that the Patriots drafted who outperformed players they poised on borders on the pathological.

1. Patterson made the Pro Bowl as a KICK RETURNER! He was a mediocre receiver with the same amount of receiving TDs as Dobson, less yards, and fewer yards per catch.

2. Patterson scored two of them on kick returns. Since the Pats do not want Dobson to do kick returns, we will never know what kind of a returner he will be.

3. The knock on Patterson coming out of college is was all physical talent with poor route running skills and below average football smarts. He seems to be best suited for an offense that is simplified that allows him to use his physical ability over his football smarts.
Because speed demons Slater and Chung are game breakers???????

That year means nothing. It was a first round pick, after all. Plus, the Gronk situation was still in full bloom.
