Media Report (unverified): The NFL had the Rice Elevator Tape in April

This quote jumped out at me:

The “top NFL executive” also told O’Donnell that “if there’s a delivery sitting under someone’s desk there will be consequences.” In other words, if it’s true — as theAssociated Press reported today — that a law enforcement source gave a league official the video months ago, that league official may be in trouble for not passing it up the chain of command.
If they seriously think that making some lower-level employee take the fall is going to resolve this, then the league office really is just a bunch of idiots. This story isn't going away, and Goodell's got to go.

This is the NFL's "Malice in the Palace"

Sorry, I'm on Roger's side on this one, and I'm not a big fan of his and think he totally mismanaged spygate. He has a very strong record of over-punishing, why would he under-punish if he had a smoking gun video like this one? That would be completely breaking with his history and pattern of punishment. The argument that he knew of this video and elected to protect Ray Rice with a mild suspension, at great risk to himself and the league, is absurd. Why would he? This is just a huge pc firestorm with no basis.

Roger Goodell cancels appearance at banquet for Jerry Richardson

With the stuff that is brown hitting the fan this afternoon, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has decided to keep his friends from getting splattered with it.

Amid reports that law enforcement officials did provide the Ray Rice video to the league in April — which was followed by a “did not” from the league — Goodell is taking the opportunity to stay out of the spotlight.

According to Michelle Boudin of WCNC in Charlotte, Goodell will not attend a banquet tonight where he was scheduled to present Panthers owner Jerry Richardson with a humanitarian award.

Ironically or coincidentally (depending on your perception) the award Richardson is receiving tonight is from a group dedicated to “human dignity, justice and moral courage.”

Roger Jetdell would be a hypocrite to attend that event.

"human dignity, justice and moral courage.”

as Commodus would say to Augustus Caesar in Germania..."these are qualities I do not possess..."

Commodusdell...now that I think about it...the PERFECT historical analogy from EVERY angle imaginable

Just can't believe they would potentially think that making a lower-level employee take the fall by claiming the tape is "sitting under their desk" would do the trick. We're home free, guys!!

Yeah, because everyone is really going to believe that NO ONE in the entire NFL HQ, at any time between April 2014 and September 2014 (5 months), said to themselves "Hey, weren't we supposed to receive the video from the cops? Did we ever get that? Shouldn't we see what happened if we are going to hand out punishment? Should we see if we received it?"

It just seems so odd to me that the same league that pushes SO HARD in October for Breast Cancer Awareness in a flurry of pink towels, socks, gloves, logos, etc., would think that the female fans they're capturing would somehow not give a f*** about a player beating down his girlfriend.

It also seems odd to me that they thought the tape wouldn't get leaked. This is 2014, guys. Some people just hacked hundreds of celebrities' personal Apple iCloud accounts and put their nude photos online. You thought TMZ couldn't get their hands on hotel surveillance video? Come on.

CNN, MSNBC and FOX all hammered the story extensively tonight. Huffington Post has a huge Goodbye Goodell headline.

Ozzie newsome

Ozzie said Rice didn't lie to team officials about incident: "Ray had given a story ... and what we saw on the video was what Ray said."

Great!

In other words, Ray got fired because the NFL and the Ravens cracked under the media witch hunt.

****ies.

What are you talking about? The problem here is that he caved to the pressure. If he'd never given the "I screwed up" speech, and the league and Ravens hadn't gone knee-jerk after the video, Goodell would be fine right now. Goodell chose. Now I want to watch that assclown reap what he has been sowing for years.

It's not yet verified, but the information that is coming out makes it reasonable to assume that the tape was delivered to the NFL in April. This leaves Goodell with the following options that I can see:

1) Stonewall. Let the media storm subside, take the reputation hit and move forward damaged but still functioning.

2) Find a scapegoat. Blame an underling and resolve that such will never happen again. Take the media hit and continue with the support of the owners.

3) Take the blame. Admit that the NFL knowingly misled its fans and the American Public. Leave it up to the owners to decide his fate in a charade of a process that would result in his staying in power, perhaps with some form of oversight by an outside party.

4) Take the blame. Resign.

1) and 2) won't work because the public will not accept either; NOW has already called for his resignation. That's just the beginning. If the tape crossed the threshold of the NFL's office, whether physically or "virtually" as an emailed file, he is finished.

3) would leave a weakened Commissioner who would be unable to deal with the inevitable "next" crisis, whatever it might be. Even his strongest owner supporters would not be able to live with that.

He's going to have to resign, IMHO.

NOW has already called for his resignation.

Sick, twisted, evil women v. loathsome, evil, Goodell.

It's just too bad that they can't all lose. Any chance we can bring them all together for talks just as a meteor strikes?.

any great commander will use the enemy of his enemy to accomplish his long standing objective.

I, General Joe Kerr, along with my trusted aides , Colonel Bat Guano and General Buck Turgidson will use the Harpy Army to wipe away the stench of the Reign of Baddell forever from the annals of sports history..Lord Hear Our Prayer.

As a husband, father and player I'm embarrassed to be associated with the NFL right now!

For all those saying all this crap will vindicate us and show that Goodell went overboard on our punishment... here you go:

When Goodell gets fired, does that mean the Pats lose their three SpyGate Lombardi’s?

Who gets them? The Steelers should get at least one, having been cheated on twice in AFC title games. Probably the Rams deserve one for the illegal walk-through video.

I spend over 90% of my time with users outside of the NE area, and from what everything I hear from them during downtime - in their opinion spygate was pushed under the carpet because Goodell and Kraft are buddies. That is the reason why Goodell destroyed the tapes that supposedly proved the crime. This Rice issue only brings it to light again... unfortunately.

So, yes. This Ray Rice scandal will put spygate back on the map... again... and already has as proven by the above comment.
