Media Report (unverified): The NFL had the Rice Elevator Tape in April

If this turns out to be true, and we should wait to be sure, Goodell is in deep trouble. He either doesn't know what's going on in his own office or he's been lying through his teeth.

Given that it's being reported by AP, this is way more credible than the standard stuff that we've come to expect from internet journalism. AP is as legit as sources get; it's essentially confirmed already in my book.

All the cable non-sports news networks are coming down on Roger hard.

If he is forced to resign for gross incompetence and complete mismanagement of league penalties, etc, that will really help clear New England's name for Crygate.

"You mean fined and docked a draft pick by the same NFL Commissioner who had to resign in disgrace for botching league disciplinary action?"

Ray Rice would have legal recourse I would surmise.

I do not condone what Rice did, but from the sounds of things, once Rice was caught he owned up to what happened in the elevator.

That's what I thought but I didn't want to start a thread that anyone could say was unfair.
I think Goodell is toast if this is true.

Hate hate hate the excuse he can't be fired because of how much money "he is bringing" to the game. In reality, the NFL is making money in spite of him. Doubt the owners would see this and doubt they'd vote him out. Has to resign...

This HAS to be the end of Goodell, right? This kind of egregious ineptitude and flat out untruthfulness does not belong on the resume of the commissioner of the NFL.

Just wondering.
How many different ways are there to say, "It couldn't happen to a nicer guy?"

The whole thing is fishy.

There has to be more to this story.

Mark Cuban is laughing his ass off some place now. What a hot mess this has become. This guy had to go on the CBS and categorically state that no one ever had access to this tape. In this day and age of social media and leaks, who would do that? I can already see the "May Day" calls in Park Avenue corner office.

"when you get too powerful, the end comes from with in" o_O

Much as I hate to write this, but this may affect the Patriots vis a vis Cameragate regarding the perception of how the NFL reports or disposes of what they have in an investigation. This kind of thing can reopen the can of worms (and I DO mean worms) with the tinfoil posses who want to believe that the NFL covered up for the Pats in 2007.

Why would Godell only give Rice 2 games when he saw what occurred in the elevator?

Most times he has given a stronger sentence and then reduced it later.

Jerry Jones for Commish 2014

Lets get back to the good old days

Of course the NFL had the tape. I can't believe this was ever even a question. This was a full on domestic violence case.

Think bigger picture here. This is BAD for Pats fans. Goodell officially involved in a cover-up takes the fire of SpyGate and throws gasoline all over it. The replies from other teams' fans are going to only get worse.

The NFL has no doubt already built the cost of defending itself against any suit Rice might bring into the financial equation that led it to conclude that the economic cost of not cutting ties with Rice far exceeded the costs and risks of litigation. I find it highly unlikely that any court would award Rice back pay or find him eligible to collect damages, but you never know what a jury might do.

Even if Rice should prevail in court and win the right to try to play again, he is unemployable by an NFL team. The Michael Vick PETA boycott threat would be a walk in the park compared to what NOW, Emily's List and a dozen other reasonably well-respected groups with tens of millions of members could do.

The report says that the have a voicemail from a female NFL employee confirming that they got the video and "your right! it's terrible"

On this what will be the last day of the Roger Goodell regime, may I be the first to say, HA HA!

The only way the NFL comes out of this is to fire Goodell, and hire Condi Rice
