Apparantly the NFL players union is voting today on new sweeping reform to the drug policy. and from what ive heard, that means suspended players can possibly be re-instated. guys like Josh Gordon, welker etc. what does this mean for brandon Browner?

would be nice to see him on the field next week.

I don't think it will be retroactive despite the speculation.

Even if it is, I don't think Browner's suspension will qualify. If I'm not mistaken, he was suspended for missing the drug tests, not for something specific like smoking weed. Those are the ones that would get shortened if any: recreational drug first offenses. Not sure what Tyms' suspension was for off hand.

If they are Tyms will be gone. Dobson wasn't even active Sunday what makes anyone think that Tyms is going to push a WR off the roster?

If Tyms is available put him out there. Sit Amendola Brady will not throw to him. A lot of times Amendola was open and Brady did not even look at him. Also sit LaFell and have Dobson and Tyms at least they have deep throw potential. LaFell definitely has Roberto Duran Syndrome (hands of stone)

I suspect that Tyms would end up replacing Boyce on the Practice Squad.

Not that I think Tyms even makes the roster when he comes off suspension, but Dobson wasn't activated most likely because he wasn't ready to play. I doubt they would have deactivated him if he was game ready.

Ya I get that. I'm just saying there is kind of a logjam that BB decided to give Dobson at least another week when he probably could have went.

The speculation re: Gordon and Welker comes from the fact that their specific infractions are being punished differently under the new rules than the old ones. The new threshold for positive weed tests will increase from 15 nanograms per mL to 50 (the same threshold as baseball players and air traffic controllers, and 1/3rd the threshold of Olympic athletes). Since Gordon flunked for having 16 nanograms per mL, his fail would be a clear pass under the rules.

Similarly, under the new policy amphetamines will no longer be a PED (four-game suspension on first offense) and instead will fall under the drug abuse police (enter their substance abuse program as a first offense, no suspension).

Basically, it's not just an amnesty for past infractions: it's applying the new rules to past infractions, and erasing them if they no longer qualify. I may be mistaken, but even if they do that, I don't think it'll do anything for Browner or Tyms, since the punishments for their infractions won't be changing IIRC.

Considering that Browner's suspension apparently stems from failing a weed test (somehting I didn't realize until just now: http://nesn.com/2014/03/brandon-browners-four-game-suspension-stems-from-missing-drug-tests/), it could all come down to whether A) his positive weed test was over or under the new threshold, or B) whether the new policy changes its stance on missing drug tests while out of the NFL.

Not so fast JMC00 don't act like we couldn't use an outside the numbers guy. Brandon Lafell is not a Deep threat and from what we have seen in preseason Tyms could be a diamond in the rough. Who would you like to have on this roster over Brian Tyms? Hooman - Harmon and Lafell??? Scratch that Brady might find a way to overthrow him.

i thought Duran was hands of stone

Think Tyms was suspended for Adderall, supposed he has ADD and it is prescribed and he failed to let the NFL know about it.. but have heard that excuse before, so "no idea" may be the best answer..

your right my mistake

Browner back early? Yes please.

No just no

If Patricia keeps the corners 5 yards off the line giving receivers a free release like on Sunday, Browner will be a waste of a roster spot.

I dont expect them to run that too much more

You all sucked down Brian Tyms Kool aide this preseason, huh? He is not that good, Brady threw to him 0 times in the preseason, actually he played 0 snaps with Brady in the preseason, if the team had any intention in having him on their active roster they would have given him some first team snaps, hell they gave Josh Boyce first team snaps.

I think the new drug policy calls for HGH testing and in exchange, the players get a higher threshold on tests for Marijuana and amphetamines. That is why it is speculated that Gordon (who barely tested above the minimum threshold for a "positive" test for Marijuana) and Welker (ditto for amphetamines) would have their suspensions reduced. If I'm the NFLPA, I would make the case that if the NFL wants to start testing for HGH right away, then they have to implement the other changes too at the same time.

Since the NFL (per an agreement with the NFLPA) never says what drug they tested positive of only prohibited or performance enhancing, it is difficult to say who would and would not benefit from the new reduced thresholds.

Since Peyton manning is adversely effected by this, I fully expect the NFL to rule in whatever way benefits Peyton the most.
