Trust me I know all the Koolaid drinkers will hate this question.

Is Vince Wilfork over the hill?

Last year he didn't look too good before he got hurt & I was shocked that they did not cut him or trade him when he
Complained that they asked him to take a pay cut.

I hope I am wrong & Vince turns it Around, but I don't see that happening.

Vince was getting pushed all over the place against a dolphin OL that is not known as a one of the better lines.

I never seen a team run straight up the middle as much as the dolphins did yesterday .

They never would have done that to a younger Wilfork.

I am giving him the benefit of being a great player and the fact that he is still coming back from major surgery. He looked really good in preseason so I am definitely going to give him some time before I call him done. I never thought he would come back that good from the surgery but he has surprised me so far. I hope he keeps doing so.

The last time Wilfork was a 3-4 NT he had Ty Warren at LDE and Richard Seymour at RDE. Now he has Joe Vellano at LDE and Chandler Jones who is 275lbs at RDE. I think that has more to do with it than him being over the hill personally. Jones should be at OLB if we are going to run a 3-4 and Joe Vellano should be on the practice squad if we run a 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, 2-5, 1-6, nickel, dime, goal line, kick block, kneel down.

The day after a Patriots loss, the term "Koolaid drinkers" always sees an enormous spike.
We are all just trying to get to the man behind the moon.. .

I think I am going to go open a trade Gronkowski, Revis, McCourty, Jones, and Solder to Detroit for Calvin Johnson thread now.. .

I'm just amazed Wilfork is playing this soon after the Achilles injury.

I don't think prime Wilfork would have looked any good either if he had a 266 pound DE on one side and a guy who anchors like he's 266 pounds on the other.

So everyone on this team is now over the hill becasue we are 0-1 right? Next week when we win...are they still oveer the hill?

My head hurts...

My concern all along was that Wilfork wouldn't be able to generate adequate push-off power from his repaired Achilles. We're talking about something analogous to bull elephants butting heads here; the forces required are not normal. It remains to be seen whether (1) Sunday was an anomaly, (2) Wilfork is still recovering and will gradually get better, or (3) this is what we can expect. I hope not the latter, but we won't know for at least half a season.

Vince Wilfork will be 33 years old on November 4, 2014.

When we resume top of the league status, all these members should be banned and not allowed to criticize the team AT ALL for the rest of this season.

How about we ban the people who are morons who obviously know nothing about the game. Sure, that would probably leave the board with 30 members, but at least the discussions wouldn't be ridiculous.

Wilfork's extension was bad; I thought it at the time, but most people were cheering it.
Everyone felt he was overpaid, but instead of cutting him and trying to resign him for lower, we extended him, reducing this year's cap hit (but not overall cost for year), and putting more years at high cost on.
IF Wilfork is over the hill, then that extension really was horrible. Wilfork will need to be a very good player for remaininder of contract for the extension to make sense.

Hopefully this is just Wilfork taking time to get back to normal and by December he will be dominant.

Well, Bill doesn't think so. Of course Bill signed LaFell, traded Mankins, started Devey, and Vellano and Jones are 3-4 DEs. So maybe it's not a stupid question.

The Patriots allowed 6.9 yards per rushing attempt when Vellano was on the field, 4.6 with Siliga, 4.4 with Easley, 6.2 with Wilfork.

When wilfork was playing with Kyle love and others, defenses started wedging him out of the play and risking that other linemen would take advantage. they didn't because they were scrubs.

Who's the lineman who's going to make them pay now, Vellano? I assume with Easly, there's a new defensive philosophy, but until then defenses will key on wilfork. There's no doubt
wilfork might be ineffective, but i don't think you can prove it by that game.

was he being singled? I don't think so

As does - Idiot, Moron, Chicken Little, Troll - that's a popular one, Douchebag, Go be a Jets fan, Go be a Bills fan, Go be a Phins fan, GFY.

I may get bashed for this, but I actually didn't think Vince did too badly for his first game back. He had good penetration a few times.

My concern is actually more with Chandler Jones after getting flagged twice for roughing the passer. It seemed to make him scared to touch the QB. To the point that on one play he had a clean shot to the QB with nobody trying to push him away and he just stood there. Two steps away from the QB and he just stood there for like 2 seconds and just watched as Tannehill made the throw. It seemed like he was unsure if he should risk trying to sack the QB and give them another free 15, and so he just stood there watching.

It's not his fault and BB didn't seem to blame him either in the presser, but... probably needs to be addressed. I understand being fearful of getting a 3rd roughing the passer, but you still need to at least pressure the QB if you have the chance, like maybe don't try to tackle him and just try to hold his arm and prevent him from making the throw? I honestly don't know, which is probably the same mind-set Jones was in at the time.

Playing a 34 would be fine if Tommy Kelly were one of the Defensive Ends. Wilfork + Kelly + Jones/Siliga would at least manage 2 gap assignment.

Even today, I'm still scratching my head in amazement at the stupidity of yesterday's imposed defensive front. The coaches really stuffed it.

More years at high non-guaranteed cost. If he's not worth paying that $4 roster bonus next offseason, then they can cut him with just the $867k in dead money.

You're right, I looked at up his contract. He will be paid a half million more for this year than he would've been on his old contract (8 instead of 7.5) -- so if he gets cut after this year, the new contract was bad; and if he doesn't get cut, then he'll average 7.25m for the next two seasons each -- which is a high number for a 34/35 year old. So I was incorrect about thinking the other years were guaranteed, but I still think it would've been better to just let him play out the contract -- basically they exchanged punting the cap hit down the road in exchange for making the eventual cap hit .5m more
