Could be a great addition. I may be dreaming, but wouldn't he be an upgrade from Brandon Bolden? Clearly there is depth at the RB position, but he is talented....

Bolden is primarily a ST guy, but James may indeed be an upgrade on this roster. For all the people who think that White is too small, though, James is smaller (but significantly more athletic).

I'm all for the add. Certainly, he would be a great KR, I think.

I never really thought this guy was particularly good at Oregon, and was surprised he was drafted as high as he was. May as well kick the tires on him but I have always thought of him as a speedy guy without a whole lot of overall game.

I don't think he would want to come here. It would be San Francisco all over again for him being behind Ridley and Vereen. Chances are he goes to a team where he can compete for more playing time. Indy and NYG come to mind.

Well Baltimore would obviously make sense for him.

If Baltimore wants him, I would expect Jim to do John a favor and just trade him to him for a conditional 7th rounder (payback for the Anquan Boldin trade). I agree that it's a good landing spot, although with how Forsett looked yesterday I doubt he would start there either.

Can he snap the ball? I don't care if he can walk fast if he can snap a football.

What's the point when your OL is garbage?

We don't need any more shrinkage ... not after yesterday's game.

Pass ......

The league should look into this release, just how much brotherly cooperation can be tolerated before they step in and call it collusion? But Goodell is utterly useless to me, and like Jerry Jones makes money for the league in spite of himself. So to hope he'd jump on the Harbaughs for helping each other out, again, is likely whistling in the wind. Goodell can't get straight a 220lb man caught cold face slamming his woman on video, why I should I hope he'd be bright enough to see a subtle coincidence becoming something more?

Side note: for all the people who claim that the Pats don't draft well, the 49ers are nearly the best in the draft/development business (#2 to Seattle IMO), and yet even they've drafted James in the 2nd and AJ Jenkins in the 1st over the past few years. Even the best teams bust on high picks, so maybe we can take note of that and stop losing our minds every time a Patriot drafted in the first 4 rounds fails to develop into a starter?

I'd love for BB & Co to bring him in to see how well he returns kicks*. If memory serves he was fast as hell at Oregon. To me that's the primary qualification for KR.

Assuming of course, he's ok with those duties.

*(not necessarily sign him, just a tryout)

Your memory does serve you well; he ran a 4.35 40 at the combine, and his speed in pads does that number justice.

I agree with @Hercules Rockefeller's assessment: if nothing else he is really, really fast. The question is pretty much that: does he have anything else going for him?

Although it is an aside, it is quite important... wonder if the 49ers Message Boards are exploding over this move....

The Patriots need to move more toward being a tough, physical team opposed to being a finesse squad. James is a finesse player.

Agree

Imagine having Blount, Browner and then sign Incognito
