***Ray Rice---The Whole Video*** [Update: Ravens release Rice]

Yes, that I was aware of. I'm just wondering what the basis for those reports were. All I am seeing is a bunch of reports based on unnamed sources, and we all know what those are worth.

I am honestly curious as to whether or not the NFL had that part of the tape and I honestly admit I don't know. The haters are gonna hate, but I refuse to base opinions without at least some basis in fact first.

My cracked conspiracy theory is that they didn't see it, but leaked that they HAD during the backlash over the 2 game suspension. Then TMZ shows up with it, and oops, throw the reporters under the bus time.

Why is hardly anyone talking about Ray McDonald and Quincy Enunwa? Well, because there's no footage released.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but that's why they stopped showing video's of men in combat after the backlash from the public of seeing it all on video during the vietnam war?

If you are Goodell, and are contemplating unemployment, would you rather leave the scene being known as:

a) the lying commish who was exposed for covering up a domestic violence case involving a woman victim and one of the NFL's more prominent players.
b) an incompetent fool for passing premature judgement on the fate of said NFL player before uncovering all of the facts necessary to do so.

He's suspended indefinitely, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Oh, I would definitely pass out if I had to wait THAT long.... But given a little time and some farce of a public cleansing of his image... Possibly a contrite apology and a donation to a women's group.... And he'll be scumming around another team like the Jets. See *Michael Vick
That Jersey swamp was made for his kind.

I think that makes a lot of sense. They behaved in a sleazy fashion by leaking they had seen it and now that that has backfired, they're running away. It's almost enough to make me feel bad for the reporters who look pretty silly.

I see an anger management course, time spent working with spousal abuse victims, all in front of a camera and a forgiveness tour in Mr. Rice's future.

What happened to all the Goodell apologists who have been defending him since he created the Spygate controversy to destroy the Patriots reputation, leaked the tapes to the media and then destroyed the tapes that showed other teams doing the same thing. In his entire reign as commissioner, he has done nothing but play favorites, protecting his beloved Jets from a serious of incidents like tripping gate, embracing his second favorite team, the Ravens and their murderer and attempting to cover up this incident with a wrist slap.

Does any rational person actually believe that believe that the POS commissioner did not view or at the very least know what occurred in the elevator and then come up with the absurd two game suspension unless we wanted to coddle his friends in Baltimore. Now that the Sh-t has hit the fan, the NFL stooges are engage in a full Nixonian coverup to protect him.

I only hope that Kraft - who has let the Pats be the whipping boy for Goodell during his entire reign, mindful of what Myra represented - will no longer support a person with such little regard for abused women.

It is Deadspin but, nevertheless ......

Someone Is Lying About Whether The NFL Saw The Ray Rice Tape

Privately, top reporters were told in no uncertain terms that the video existed, that the NFL had seen it, that it showed Janay Palmer acting violently toward Rice, and that, if released, it would go some way toward mitigating the anger against him. One of the league's most devoted mouthpieces described the video for us on an off-the-record basis, going off what his sources had told him. The implication was clear:If you saw this video, you'd know why Rice only got two games.

Now that the video's out, the NFL and the Ravens are reversing course.

There are three possible explanations here. The first is that every single reporter who said the NFL had seen the video was lying. This seems unlikely, since they were all telling the same lie, both for public consumption and in their off-the-record talks with us.

The second is that the NFL was lying to all of the top football reporters back then about having seen the video, in some attempt to smear Janay Palmer.

The third is that the NFL is lying now about not having seen the video—that league officials saw what everyone has now seen, for whatever reason actually found it exculpatory, and are now making false claims to protect the league's image. This interpretation is supported by an employee of the Revel, the Atlantic City casino where the fight took place. He tells TMZ that the NFL saw the footage before disciplining Rice.

Whatever the case, it's almost certain that the NFL lied at some stage here...

So Peter king and Chris Mortenson were told that the NFL saw the video.

We know for a fact that Ray Rice did.

The NFL presumably could have demanded access to the tape from Rice as a condition of leniency if they in fact had not seen it. They did not.

Interesting.

Could it possibly be ... Goodell will have to terminate the employment of Goodell ... that's rich.

I just got home, and I just watched the video. What a scumbag. He didn't even care. He just dragged out of the elevator like trash after he knocked her out. What a loser. He got what he deserved today from his team and the league. Quite frankly, they should have done this in the first place. They saw the tape long ago. I don't believe the leagues' claims that today is the first time they saw it. Unfortunately for them, the tape is now public and everyone is HORRIFIED.

Retroactively changing the punishment (by Gomerall) is sure to cause a lawsuit and as a result, this story won't go away. Dumb.

However, this is what concerns me: the cap treatment had better be the same as ours was for the AHern mess. I bet it's not, and I bet Kraft does nothing about it. I don't know the facts but I feel (from experience) that this will smell like crap.

I'm not Peter King's biggest fan, but if Goodell wants to fight a battle of credibility with King and Schefter, he's already lost. The main criticism that both of those guys get is that they're basically league mouthpieces/apologists, which makes this claim even worse for the league.

I wonder if Goodell's seriously so ignorant of public opinion that he fails to realize this. Probably. At this point no display of incompetence should surprise anyone.

The NFL braintrust grossly underestimated the anger of the general public for this kind of thing (when there is video out there for all to see) and they (Goddell and his team of lawyers) just assumed that it would be forgotten with the "glory" of a new NFL season upon us.

This is multi billion dollar industry with its own lawyers and private investigators who do nothing but deal with these kind of NFL related issues. There is absolutely no way that senior NFL leadership did not see that video. All of it, when this story first broke. NO WAY!!
Does anyone here really think that these powerful men who run the NFL would sit there in their Madison Avenue offices saying, "Yeah, OK. We know there is more video that shows the very worst of it but we're just fine with not seeing it and making our disciplinary decisions based on just the part released to the public".

Goddell and his cronies made a calculated gamble that this tape would not released. End of story. They probably thought they had in their possession the only video that existed of the incident. And they likely destroyed what they had. Remember when Goddell "destroyed" the Spygate tape evidence? And no one got to see it.

What Ray Rice did was shameful. Inexcusable. This is big business with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. What will be even more shameful will be the covering up of NFL senior managements tracks to save jobs and to continue to be able to print money. The journalists who initially reported that the NFL saw the whole thing will, by now, be feeling the pressure that the NFL will bring to bear as it looks to protect the brand. Access will be threatened, along with other forces that the NFL has at its disposal. Before long the journalists who reported that the NFL senior brass saw everything will start to change/shift their stories as the big money wheels start to spin. Big money gets what it wants/needs 99.9% of the time in the USA of 2014.

There is no way the NFL did not see whole tape. End of story. But with this much money at stake and with power brokers livelihoods threatened, this is the only way that Goddell can save his job. The cover up to protect the NFL senior leadership is just a sad dirty by product of that ugly and brutish act in the elevator.

It has to start somewhere. Someone has to start questioning the NFL on this.

I was at work when this broke so I didn't see the tape until a couple of hours ago but I've been sitting here with my mouth open since then. It really is inconceivable that the NFL did not see this tape before they handed down the 2 game suspension. What I am not seeing is these reporters, who were supposedly told the NFL saw the tape, coming out and saying something about it.

So yes, it's Deadspin but it has to start somewhere. I've had ESPN on since I found out about it and NO ONE has raised this question at all. I'm hoping that, since this is a still breaking story, within the next few days these people will begin to speak up and the truth will come out. I hope it becomes a tidal wave because this is unspeakable.

Having said that, I just can't believe all the apologist comments on all these various stories I've been reading around the web. What the hell is wrong with these people?!? God help the human race.

That was pretty much the worst thing. Watching him without an inkling of emotion after he knocked her out. You would think if it ever came to totally losing your cool and striking someone (especially a fiancé) your instant reaction would be one of shock and horror that you could do something like that. Just nothing except possible contempt afterwards. Either the guy is just a monster with a big hole in his soul. Or he was on something he probably shouldn't be taking.
