You, um, do realize those guys were all drafted the year before Collins was, right?

That's the point. You're not trying to imply that the board's seemingly constant calls for drafting a safety the year Collins was drafted was in any way hindsight, after all.

Right?

Exactly how self-absorbed does someone have to be to create for themselves an "Official 'My Name' Game Observations Thread" and assume that for some reason anyone cares what they think or that their opinions are specifically important enough to warrant their very own special thread???

You may find that they have more well rounded threads at Orange Mane.

You apparently missed the whole "Stop merging everything into the official thread" brouhaha that I titled my thread in response to. In other words, it was in jest. I hadn't intended to keep titling things that way moving forward, but you've inspired me. Perhaps I'll do that after all.

Just because your preference was to draft a safety, it doesn't mean that Collins didn't fill just a big of need. Coverage LBs are just as important as safeties.

And maybe Belichick felt that Collins was far better than any safety that was available then. Time will tell if he is right.

You argument is BS in that Collins was a bad pick because he didn't not fill a big need. You may not feel that way, but most people will disagree with you.

I'm not sure why you're listing players from the year before. They drafted Wilson in 2012, in 2013 it was too late to hit the undo button. They took Collins in 2013. I'm not sure why he's being judged against TY Hilton and Lavonte David, who had been in the NFL for a full year when he was drafted.

How am I judging Collins the player, in any way?

And, of course you know why I'm listing those players, if you've read my posts.

Just piggybacking on what is clearly the official post-game thread... Also, haven't (and really can't) rewatch the game, so take any observations with a grain of salt.

But I strongly agree with DI's #2. Far too few quick-strike plays in the 2nd half, even after OLine started to cave. Too much PA involving TB with his back to the D; by the time he turned around, it was already too late! Also feel this team would be far stouter against the run, and more guys in their natural positions, in a 43. Perhaps run more base, even against a 3-WR set, but throw a CB into that #2 S position.

Gronk looks slow and lumbering. (Unrelated, but so too so did Vollmer.) It's probably for the best that he's being eased in gradually. Additionally, I'll be happy to see more of Wright in the 2-TE set, who caught all three of the balls thrown his way (even if the plays were unspectacular), and less of LaFell.

A terrifying prospect, but are we really depending on Stork to be our team's savior? Kick Connolly out to RG and then hopefully never see Wendell or Devey ever again for as long as we live?

Okay, some silver-lining stuff... In the 1st half, TB was moving quite well in the pocket; he even threw pretty well on the run -- historically not his forte -- which I recall was a point of concentration during TC. Also, happy the O is more committed to the deep ball; perhaps this is in anticipation that the the current rules will favor that sort of aggressiveness. However, I think the personnel will better suit those plays once Dobson (and possibly Tyms as well) make a return.

Opened thread, saw what I expected, kicked myself for thinking it may not be that, left.

Well, that is the problem with your analysis of the pick. You think Collins as a player is irrelevant and basing it solely on your opinion of what was the biggest need for the Pats along with damning this particular pick for failed picks by Belichick in the past.

When the Pats drafted Mankins, I don't think guard was the Pats' most pressing need.

Yeah, there are a lot of OCs losing sleep over Jamie freaking Collins. Athletic JAG.

He actually was good in coverage yesterday.

I would be the first to say he stunk if that wasnt true.

Honestly, it's hard to blame the coverage of anybody when Tannehill had all day to throw. Seems like we've seen this movie before. We don't have a dominant pass rusher, and I have no idea why we don't go after one.

On a side note Demarcus Ware had 1.5 sacks last night for Denver. Oh well...we have Chandler "No Moves" Jones.

I'm more along the line of I think the Collins pick was a bad pick because I don't think he's very good.

I was skeptical of the pick when it happened, but he blew me away the way he performed at the end of the season. I would give the guy at least another full year before making any declarations.

The draft frustrations are valid IMO. He's arguably the greatest coach ever.. but drafting is NOT his strong suit. It'd be really nice to not have to be relying on Pat Chung for half the snaps every game. That's the result of straight up failures with high draft picks at that position with Harmon and Tavon Wilson.

Jones would have had 2 if he had been more careful with his hit.

I don't know how he's going to learn how to take on a block or tackle. He's probably a decent special teamer. Ideally he'd be a rotational nickel LB. He has no business playing every down. It's funny because his one good game against the Colts consisted of him making plays that other LBs make all of the time. When he's compared to our "never make plays" LB core, an interception and a sack seem superhuman. We are in for a long season.

He had none. I have no idea how you get to 2.

He had two roughing the passer calls. I can't recall if the ball had left by then, but they would have been great hits if we hadn't been penalized.

I'm not a Solder fan either. He provides me with little confidence on the blind side. Hated that pick.

Hits yes, sacks no. That's the difference between having speed and being a step too slow. Chandler Jones is not an explosive athlete. He's a step or two too slow.
