Miami positives

it seems as if you ate quoting people who looked at the stat line and assumed revis had man coverage on Wallace all day and allowed all of those catches which if you watched the game you know is not true.

The first sentence from Duffy would have been more appropriate than the second one, which makes it sound like Revis allowed 7/11 catches vs Wallace--so I'll give you that.

On the other hand, there have been multiple examples now who have stated that Revis had problems with Wallace, and someone who has a "pretty good" game would not experience such issues, or have that many opinions all pointing to the same thing.

Personally, I think it's a mixed bag. I thought Revis had a nice breakup, but he also got beaten several times that were significant enough that it shouldn't be considered as a "pretty good" game. The only defenders who I think had a pretty good game may be Mayo and Collins, all things considered.

To each his own. I think most of us have a much higher standard of one of the top 1-2-3 CBs in the game, rather than that mediocre letdown. It wasn't bad for getting his feet wet and showing his natural talent though, and I'm sure we'll be seeing much better in the future.

When I post that BB has not done a good job of drafting players around Brady that is a FACT. The drafted players produced little to nothing and are not on this team or any NFL team today. There are reasons why the Pats keep failing at the goal of winning another world championship and the draft has been one of those factors.

No, it's not a "FACT," because "good job" depends on your subjective definition of the phrase.

"Three of Belichick's 2014 draft picks failed to make the 53-man roster." = FACT
"Belichick has not done a good job of drafting players." = OPINION

Im really not interested in excuses with Tom Brady at QB.

Tom Brady is a top QB but he is far from infallible.
Bill B. is a top HC/GM but he is far from infallible.

Your implication seems to be that BB's GM decision making has gotten in the way of greater success/gotten in the way of Brady singularly leading the Patriots to more SB victories.
I believe that is looking at it from a distinctly narrow perspective (the dynamics are far far more broad than that), however, either way, it's all but impossible to prove.

I'm really not shocked they lost

While I'd prefer to see the OL play better, the Patriots run some complex D and O - and they are NEVER in mid season form in September. It takes them much longer to hit their stride than other teams - but when they do, watch out.

A division loss is NEVER a good thing, but Patsfans should expect that the team will look rusty in September given the complex plays utilized by Belichick - especially in an era where offseason practices are limited.

Oh okay. **** THIS.

The coaching was terrible. The execution was terrible. The OLine got killed. Brady was scared.

We played a 3-4 for some unknown reason despite drafting 4-3 players recently. Everyone looked out of position and it showed, when Moreno ran all over the defense.

I don't blame any of that on "teh complex playz!". If that's what complex plays look like, we need to change something fast.

The weather forecast for Minneapolis next Sunday is a high of 65, a low of 49, cloudy with a few showers.

Here's hoping the run d improves. We made Moreno look like AP, and that's exactly who we are getting week 2....

Revis didn't look like the Revis of old yesterday. He was okay, and that's about it. He allowed a third down conversion on a slant to Wallace, got smoked on a double move where he was trailing by 10+ yards deep on a pass that should have been a touchdown if Tannehill puts the ball on the money, and allowed a TD to Wallace later. That's by no means a shut down corner. That being said, the coaching staff had him playing off man most of the game which is only slightly less ******ed than having him play exclusively zone like the genius Schiano did in Tampa.

Positives:

1. Vereen looked pretty solid in the passing game and showed some great wheels. He could be have that monster season we've been hoping for from him, provided he stays healthy.

2. Wilfork looked pretty good out there for an old guy coming off an achilles tear. He may have technically missed a couple tackles in the backfield, but if not for those near misses, Moreno would have had even bigger runs.

3. Brady is getting really good at "flag awareness". I counted three "incompletions" of his that were negated by flags on Miami. You'd see a flag and then see Brady heave up a low percentage pass. If complete, huge gain and penalty declined. If incomplete, accept the penalty and get the first down.

4. Chung wasn't half bad at returning kickoffs.

5. Edelman is showing us that last season was no fluke.

6. The O-line was a sieve, but it wasn't the left guard position that faltered so badly.

I was yelling this at the TV. I didn't understand it.

As for the Revis argument in here; the problem is perception. According to the standards of the average CB, he had a decent enough game. However, it was far below Revis' own personal standard. He didn't get routinely burned, but even the 2-3 mental mistakes he did make were more often and more damaging than we're used to seeing from him.

Onward and upward...

I wonder if they had Revis playing off man due to the speed of wallace. We will see next week, but him and dennard are MUCH better suited to press-man coverage. not sure why they played off the receivers so much yesterday

"Good job" does not need to be explained in infinite detail if you are a knowledegable PATS fan.

The premise of the draft is easy to understand.

After 10 drafts the Pats should be rebuilt by now. I hope they are for Bill Belichicks sake becausae the "Well get em next year" are running out.

I pray that the OL comes together and figures it out before Brady is hurt.

Another positive I hope came from this game. That BB realized going forward the only way the DL will be good if they go 4-3

Ninkovich the 2nd best pass rusher played 35 of 74 snaps yesterday and I can't even remember if he rushed the passer.

Give me Jones and Nink on the edge with a rotation of Wilfork, Siliga, Easley, Quarles, and Chris Jones on the instead.
Yes Kelcy Quarles needs to be on the roster instead of Joe Vellano. If this move is not made I'm going to be baffled. There is just no-way BB can think that Vellano is a better fit for what the DL needs than Quarles especially after yesterday's showing.

Revis had a poor Revis game; but a well above average #1 CB game. Guys like Wallace have huge games about teams top CBs routinely. Wallace did not have a huge game yesterday. Revis is the lack of my concerns on D at the moment -- the big concern is even with the supposedly better players -- Mayo back, Collins/Jones one year improving, Wilform partially back; our pass rush still stunk and our run defense was horrible

This is a masterstroke post. No wasted movement, no extra syllables. Just pure, unadulterated belligerent idiocy. A true Triumph of awful posting.

You and everyone else in that thread that thinks Revis didn't play "pretty well" are clinically insane. Speed demons like Mike Wallace are the cryptonite to "shutdown" corners. In 60 snaps, a fast WR like Wallace will burn any CB in the league at least once or twice. Wallace made most of his plays against CBs not named Revis anyway.

I don't blame Revis at all, but I bet he's counting down the days to free agency. I doubt he wants to spend his final effective years playing for a defense this boring, and having to cover for 20 minutes at a time. He can look at Richard Sherman, with half of Revis's skills, and envy the brief time he's required to hang with his WR.

Bill Belichick's poor drafting is EXACTLY the reason why they haven't won another championship. Look at the 2011 roster, that team made it to the SB. If 2006-2009 wasn't such a mess, they would have had several players in their primes going into that game, and as we know, a few plays could have made the difference (or just getting the friggin Giants off the field earlier than 8 plays into a drive).

My positives:
- I really enjoyed the Edelman end-around; he just looked like he was running to the other side of the field pre-snap per usual, the hand off was soo smooth that I was totally fooled. I rewatched it a few times and you could barely see it happen.

- When the Miami RB's shoe came flying off my six-year-old son and I watched it about six times, he was rolling on the floor with laughter.

ONly players I thought did decent...

Wright (not out there enough)
Edelman was his same old self
Gronk but Brady focused on him to much
Vereen - when he touches it the out come is usally positive
Secondary - not focused on Revis as others are but i thought Dennard did well and great hit by Ryan on the fumble (lb coverage was another story)

I am convinced that if this forum existed the day Super Bowl XX was played someone would come on here and start a "positives" thread.....

New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins - Box Score - September 07, 2014 - ESPN

It was a tale of two halves. The first half (except for the blocked punt that resulted in an easy one-play TD) was positive in many ways. It should have been 20-3 at the half. The passing game was up-tempo and deliberate. The Pats got ten first downs, scored on four drives. Edelman was involved. The defense was coming hard and fast, they forced turnovers, pressured Tannehill. A big positive was the run blocking in the Red Zone in the first half. It was especially good to see Devey lead the way into the end zone on the Vereen TD.

The second half was stunningly poor. As the half wore on, the usual signs never came that the Patriots would step up and put together a drive that would result in points, but more importantly, give the defense a chance to regroup. The defense couldn't get off the field, and showed no signs of being able to force the Dolphins to go to the pass with Moreno and Miller gashing them at will. Some of that was on the D-Line, but the linebackers just weren't there in the gaps to pop the running backs at the next level.

This was the most puzzling loss in a long time.
