Miami positives

How'd Hartline and Clay do lined up across Revis? Oh ya both got shut out going against him.

Wallace beat him pretty consistently, so I don't think it really matters after that....

From Kevin Duffy (now my 3rd example of a reporter) Masslive.com:

"Widely regarded as the league’s best shutdown corner, Revis spent much of the day on Mike Wallace. And the speedster often got the best of him. Wallace finished with seven catches for 81 yards and the touchdown on 11 targets."

Edit: I don't care for the way that Duffy insinuates the 7/11 stat line here (or some may take it that way without reading it clearly), which obviously did not happen. That said, I think his first sentence is very appropriate, and shows that Revis had more than his hands full today against Mike Wallace, who got the best of him several times, with another catch dropped, and another thrown a bit over Wallace's head where he had beaten Revis very clearly.

As a whole, it was more of a mixed bag for #24, but not a bad way to get his feet wet. I definitely still stand firmly by my opinion that he did not have a "pretty good" game by any stretch, but his natural talent allowed him to deflect a pass, and he was in good position on the TD catch as well.

all this specific player blaming is ridiculous...the ENTIRE TEAM failed to show up for the 2nd half.

I made that point a couple of times, Joker, but the focus shifted on the individual play of the new prized free agent acquisition, which is to be expected. There was a lot of hype that came with that, and some are not telling the truth about the performance today.

krist I may have to get a ticket to this game so I can go watch the game with actual physical fans instead of all these braying jackasses in here.

I don't normally fall into that category, and I'm sorry if the debate over Revis' play today upsets or disappoints you. I have just as much of a right to state the facts as anyone else though, and I don't mean to come off disrespectfully towards you, because I wouldn't choose to do that.

The fact remains that Revis allowed several easier completions to Wallace. That included a TD, a good amount of yardage, and several examples of getting beat. That's not even taking into accoun the fact that Wallace beat him pretty well on a ball that was overthrown, and I believe another that Wallace dropped. If that is suddenly now considered "pretty good" play by our standards, that is rather sad. I think mediocre is more appropriate...even "mixed bag" would be acceptable. There were some good plays as well as some bad ones.

At least I backed up my argument with quotes from other reporters, along with stats.

Only gave up 173 passing yards. So the passing D is likely among the best in the league statistically, after one game.

That's about the only positive I can think of.

What a load of crap.

The linebackers did not play well, missed on a number of tackles, and were run over by the Miami Dolphins running backs.

I do agree with you that it was an all around poor team performance, but that sometimes happens.

I still think it was a tale of 2 halves, with the 1st half team looking fairly decent.

I know what the stats are. I also know he missed the last part of the 4th quarter with cramps. I also know that Dennard and McCourty and the rest of the secondary played stand up/push defense in the 2nd half instead of hitting and TACKLING. They were all gassed. That's why players cramp. You didn't any Phins players cramping. You saw Phin players a step faster, fresher and playing downhill. Seen it here before...krist , we went 0-21 against this team back in the day and NEVER won down there.

It's disappointing to see a half like that but I am not going to start blaming specific players when the ENTIRE TEAM looked the same...every player was wearing concrete sneakers. Let's wait a week and see how they play up here at home before we start blasting the whole team to smithereens.

Your normal negativity would be a lot easier to take if you actually balanced it out on a regular basis with positive posts like this one.

I like to tell it like it is and some people don't like to hear such news.

Not exactly a "positive" but it seems like the Patriots weren't the only team to only show up for 1 half today

Colts, Broncos, Jags, Eagles, Saints, Falcons, Browns, Steelers, 49ers

Yes, sir. I think you hit it on the head.

Just to clarify though, my comments were in response to those who were suggesting that "Revis played pretty well," so that's how the debate began in the first place.

It wasn't just going around randomly complaining for no good reason, as it was more of an attempt to show facts and quotes from others that it was not exactly the case. At any rate, I'll let it go since it's pissing you off.

Those that think that Revis played a good game are certainly free to think so if that makes their world a happier place.

Yeah, we shook the rust off a bit. The key will be coming out and playing a fuller game next week on the road again, which I think we all expect.

Actually, we have to go back on the road at Minnesota again. First 2 on the road this year.

While that shouldn't normally be any big deal, flying from Foxborough to South Beach, back to Foxborough, then to Minneapolis in a week isn't sounding like a cake walk any more either.

I wouldn't want to be sitting in that film study tomorrow when Belichick breaks things down. I can tell you that.

My Positives:

No Injuries
Vereen and Edelman on offense doing very good work.
I loved how they used Edelman like Seattle use Harvin in the 1st half.
Wilfork consistantly putting presure on (by himself on this one)
I think we had 100% red zone efficiency

That's about it from my nd i'm afraid. Biggest one is no injuries.

1st game wins or losses don't mean squat...it's how the team builds on whatever they already have in place. Everyone knows that but some people just have to vent because they want to win every game and go 19-0 every season.

I used to gamble the NFL as an income stream when I was in my 30's and early 40's. My older brother asked me yesterday what I thought about the weekend games...I told him take Miami and the points, Philly, SF and the Jets...of course I missed the Jets game by a half friggin' point, but he's happy...and sad (big Pats fan). Sometimes you have to check yourself before you wreck yourself when you root for your team.

Minny will be a great measuring stick then, Supa...we'll see fast if they can "fix" what seems broken or if it was, indeed, wilting in the tropical heat. The dome is weather controlled and Cassel is a clone of Tannehill and A.P. is more than a slight upgrade on Moreno.

I fully agree. I consistently warned others all week long about laying 5 points on the road--particularly against a divisional foe. It's bad business all around and one of the core "rules" that you just don't break.

Yep, I have a feeling that we'll be seeing something much closer to what we expected today, or even saw in the first half.

I think a strong focus on stopping Peterson will obviously be the main key, so we should see more of a scheme to contain the run game. Knowing Cassel's weaknesses should obviously help as well.

Hard to pick any positive from this game specially with the way the team played in the 2nd half. But here's for me:
  1. Football is back
  2. It's September
  3. A good beating is the type of adversary this team needs to gel

I like to tell it like it is and some people don't like to hear such news.

This is the last thing I'm going to say here:

Anyone posting here is telling it "like it is" only when they're posting objective facts (e.g., GRONK had X yards, the Dolphins gave up Y points, etc.).

Anyone posting an opinion here ("Cut player X now!") is not telling it like it is. They're telling it "as they see it."

There's nothing wrong with opinions. There is a problem with not understanding the difference between opinions and facts.

it seems as if you ate quoting people who looked at the stat line and assumed revis had man coverage on Wallace all day and allowed all of those catches which if you watched the game you know is not true.

When I post that BB has not done a good job of drafting players around Brady that is a FACT. The drafted players produced little to nothing and are not on this team or any NFL team today. There are reasons why the Pats keep failing at the goal of winning another world championship and the draft has been one of those factors.

Im really not interested in excuses with Tom Brady at QB.
