Game Thoughts: They stunk like fish today

I thought this was Vollmer worst game of his career so far. Wake ate him up, all game
I do not think he played enough in the preseason and his conditioning was a major disadvantage, or at least I hope that is what it was because he looked bad.

I agree with supa, I def think the heat and humidity had something to do with the Pats goose egg during the second half. They had nothing for the Dolphins.

The thing I'm really worried about is the fact that Gronk looked slow and Vollmer is also looking like he isn't the same.

We can win without those two at the top of their game period.

Romo......

Gronk looked exhausted second half. He's def not in football shape yet

for the first time in the BB era - I actually coughed up some of my Kool-Aid :(

@MikeReiss: (2 of 2): Brady’s 16 incompletions on throws at least 15 yards downfield are most by a QB in @ESPNStatsInfo data set (since 2006)

Wow. We all know he is bad at the deep ball. But thats bad

How many of those were in the final drive? Probably like 7 or 8.

Quick thought as this is the first thread I looked at. The Lines (both offense and defense) were getting pushed around quite soundly. Miami's offensive line was able to open holes that many of us could have gained 3-5 yards going through. Not to take anything away from Knowshon because he was a beast and kept moving forward.

We did have poor tackling as Rob pointed out. On the offense, Brady did a great job in Belichick-speak not to throw anyone under the bus as he didn't have any time on quite a few plays. and there were no bright spots in that second half (or not enough worth mentioning).

i thought, even in the first half, the defense couldn't stop the dolphins. It was the turnovers (which is great) that was getting the fins off the field. Otherwise, it seemed we didn't have much ability to stop them.

It's the first game and the team will get better. But Brady is now 6-7 down @ Miami and that skewed record should tell you to keep the faith for the remainder of the season.

I actually think they should consider moving Vollmer to LG; he did not look good at RT today at all he was getting beat routinely.

Actually, on several of those it looked like Vollmer or Hooman didn't even try to block Wake. Like they each thought the other guy was gonna block him. Although I can't think of a reason a RT wouldn't automatically have the DE on that side. That looks to me to be as much an O-line coaching issue than anything else.

Late last year our O-line wasn't great (average at best), but no where near as bad as this. And late last year they were beat up and had some key injuries. Today, the O-line was about as fresh as they're gonna be till next August, and they looked like fossilized dinosaur crap.

The loss of Mankins from last year to this could be a factor. But I don't think so. At least not a major one. Today the LG spot seemed to be ...well, let's just say a little less bad than most of the line.

I think coach Googe is the major change from last year to today that turned this from a barely average line into the dumpster fire we saw today. Unfortunately Dante ain't gonna be walking through the door anytime soon. :(

I think they should have rolled with the more experienced Kline. Sometimes I wonder why Belichick and McDaniels become enamored with these players like Devey.

There was a tremendous amount of pressure outside as well. To be honest, it came from everywhere, but it was not just from the inside as you may imagine.

The run game was absolutely horrible. They couldn't run the ball, and they couldn't block---but it was particularly in the second half.

They had a net of 10 yards (in the second half) going into their last "garbage time" drive, if that tells you anything. It was Brady's lowest total in his 15 year career, in terms of second half production.

They had 2 strip sacks on Brady in the second half, and double digit hurries/knockdowns. It seemed as though just about every single play they were all over Brady as soon as he snapped it.
That's the alarming thing about the pass protection. It wasn't just the interior OL that failed today. The tackle play was miserable too.

Kline was horrific in the last preseason game. There's no way I would have played him either.

Tommy Kelly >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Joe Vellano

Several people on this bulletin board>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Joe Vellano.

j/k. but not by much

This is the one thing I don't understand. Maybe somebody here can explain it to me but why didn't we try to find more plays in the middle via Amendola/Edelman ? Is it because the OL was so aweful that there was no time for Brady to find a player there ? I seriously don't understand it.

With Edelman and Amendola we should have players that both excel right there..

The Dolphins were playing both LBs and two safeties tight between the hashes in much of the second half.
