The New England Patriots winning a Super Bowl has become a distant memory.

His point is to remind us that a very good team (Seattle) lost at home in a divisional game they were supposed to easily win, and yet somehow they muddled through the season.

The Seattle Seahawks did not muddle through the season when the Seattle Seahawks earned home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Look at the bright side of things fellas.... last time we lost in the first game of the season, we went on to win the Superbowl... :D

I was waiting for someone to bring that up, as I didn't want to be 'that guy.'

I certainly agree with you, no doubt about it. If you're going to consider paying someone 13-14m dollars per game with a lot of guaranteed money, you're going to want to see more than that half-assed effort.
I was at the game. The sad thing is he wasn't giving a half assed effort. But, that said, our brilliant defensive coaching staff was playing him in either zone or off man most of the game. Because, you know, that's EXACTLY how you use Darrelle Revis. Thing is, though, even in press man situations, he wasn't that impressive either. He was consistently behind his man.

Hi I remember the last time the Patriots got shellacked on the road to a division foe in the season opener, do you. If not stfu.

I was being sarcastic, as I'm sure you already know. The point was that SEA somehow managed to put forth a season last year, which was what he was reminding us. That season ended up being fairly successful.

Here is why NE lost.
1. Brady was 29 completions on 56 attempts. Hard to win games passing for 50%
2. 9 penalties for 100 yards. Roughing the passer 3 times by my count.
3. Coverted 5 of 17 Third Downs on offense for less than 33%.
4. Gave up 7 of 13 Third Downs on defense for over 50%.
5. Pats only rushed the ball 20 times, yet they were averaging 4.4 YAC.
6. Brady locking on to Gronk for all those fantasy teams out there.

We have seen this movie before.

The old "Ground Hog Day" abandon the run and become 1 dimensional offense. Pass, Pass, Pass and Pass some more. Unable to extend drives on 3rd down. Difficulty geting the other offense off the field on 3rd down. Shooting yourself in the toe with mistakes and bad decisions.

Penalties to the level of the Raiders (ie., the stupid stuff that helps you to lose), bad tackling, bad blocking (not comforting that the Fins had no real LBs on the field and still sacked Brady repeatedly), bad passing by Brady, and general bone-headed plays atypical of the Pats. I liked what I saw with Wright, JE, Vereen and Wilfork (at times - he missed on Moreno like much of the rest of the line). Gronk looked out of synch (as his first game in a while, not really surprised). Revis looked like a far step down from Talib today against Wallace. Brady was not himself, and was not throwing the ball well consistently.

I expect after the 18 hour film session this week with all the training material generated today, this will be viewed as a regrettable and forgettable game. Hopefully getting drop-kicked like this brings the focus back to where it should be long-term. Just a bad game overall.

The New England Patriots offensive line is even worse this season compared to last season.

You have guaranteed a Super Bowl victory for the New England Patriots this season?

I'm gonna try really hard not to be mean here.. but sir, you need to read things more carefully.

The original poster said that the eventual SB champion Seahawks lost a division game to Carson Palmer last year. The point being even the best teams can lose seemingly easy divisional games, because divisional games can be a huge *****.

I must be drunk because I'm seeing points that Triumph is making. If you can't stay on the field on third down on offense or get off the field on third down on defense, you're losing. This was pretty much a total loss. What's most alarming is we had zero pass rush up the A and B gaps against the what will probably be the worst OL we will see this season.

The New England Patriots this season have some major fundamental flaws:

Offensive Line
Wide Receiver Position (aside from Edelman)

Hi I remember the last time the Patriots got shellacked on the road to a division foe in the season opener, do you. If not stfu.

Trivia... How many players from that team are on the roster THIS year (over a decade later)?

Quarterbacks
Running Backs

Wide Receivers

Tight Ends

Offensive Linemen
Defensive Linemen

Linebackers
Defensive Backs

Special Teams

Reserve Lists

Practice Squad

The New England Patriots defense was run over. Simply inexcusable.

I was not very impressed with anything that Revis did, especially after hearing all off-season about how we'd be able to take away the opponent's best weapon (fail), allow our pass rush to get there quicker (fail), and have a defense that rivaled one of the best in the league (fail).

Obviously, it was only one game, so let's hope that we get back on track next Sunday and put this one in the rear view.

Those roughing the passer calls killed us.

You can add coordinators to that list.
