Why we should NOT reach for a LB in the 1st round...

Big Cat did play well and I think he could have improved under the BB coaching school. I remember seeing the large scar on the back of his neck just before he decided to call it quits. I think he did the right thing.

It might be good to have a single thread, in a couple of weeks, to list the "Patriots type players" and why you consider them to be.

By the sportswriter's definition of the article mentioned in the very first post Katzenmoyer was a bust. And in terms of what we got out of him, I can't say I disagree.
Okay, if your definition of a bust includes a talented player who played well until he suffered a career-ending injury early in his career, then, yeah, by that definition Katzenmoyer and Robert Edwards were busts. Their productive careers were cut short by horrific injuries.

But it is a stupid definition, and if you use a reasonable definition, i.e., a player whose PLAY ON THE FIELD never came close to livingup to expectations, then neither were busts. Both did well until their injuries.

Its called competition. That way, the best players make the team.

Well there could be some tough cuts coming, and people are just going to have to be ready for it. I hinted to this on ESPN awhile back. Depending on who they draft, any of these guys could be on the chopping block:

S Rashad Baker
CB Chad Scott
CB Antwain Spann
DB Willie Andrews
T Wesley Britt
G/C Gene Mruczkowski
G Billy Yates
LS Lonie Paxton
LB Eric Alexander

Ya, dont get me wrong, i dont disagree but with these guys (the 53 squad), The Pats KNOW what they're gonna get, you cut some of these for the Rookies, its a gamble!

Your Right, some of these guys ARE gonna get cut, no doubt. Its still an interesting scenario though!

Who will be our LS?

Except for Britt and possibly Yates, I expect (hope?) that the DB and LB positions will be sufficiently upgraded that the other names on your list will eventually be known as ex-Patriots.

As for Katzenmoyer, at the time he was drafted, he was the consensus Best Player Available, regardless of position, as per espn, CNN/SI, Sportsline, USA Today and The Sporting News. The only player I recall coming close was DE Patrick Kerney. I was more upset that Booby Grier gave away their 3rd-rounder to move up 3 whole spots to select Damien Woody; I would have preferred LJ Shelton, and a re-signed Dave Wohlabaugh.

Well I said it will depend on who they draft, and DeOssie is also a Long Snapper:D
