Seahawks vs Packers

I wish the Pats had a matchup with Seattle this year. I'd love to see how they stack up and what kind of game plan they run.

I'm praying this happens, i'm convinced with a fully fit offense and this beast of a D that's been built in NE they'd have a legit shot to beat them.

As much as I'd like to see the Packers beat the Seahawks, the Seahawks are way too good of a team. And they are playing at home where they are extremely hard to beat

Seahawks 35
Packers 24
yup.....................

Pretty sure no one deep down thought Packers would win, most of us probably wanted GB to pull it off but realistically? Nahhh

No one? uh..that's not true...and way more than you obviously think...

"
If the Seahawks’ physical secondary is going to struggle with the NFL’s renewed emphasis on illegal contact, defensive holding and pass interference, we’ll see it tonight.

Sal Paolantonio of ESPN reports that tonight’s referee is John Parry. That’s significant because Parry’s crew called the most defensive holding and pass interference penalties of any officiating crew during the preseason. Parry’s crew also tied for the most defensive holding and pass interference calls of any officiating crew during the 2013 regular season."

This is what is known as the set up for the post game "I told you so!!!!" chest thumpers that barf up their stupid know-it-all "maybe!! could be!! could happen!!" "journalistic" garbage takes that are rife across the American sports media landscape.

I picked the Seahawks by a margin of 10 basically because I don't think much of the Packers D without Raji.

I remember when GB won the SB in 2010 then dominated during the 2011 season many people were saying that they were the next dynasty.

Since that time they've won 1 playoff game(Minny with Joe Webb at QB)and haven't come close to another SB

and this tells you what? That the Rodgers hype is just that?...if so I agree. He never took any shots downfield until the game was already in Seattle's bag. I'm an old dog so sometimes I use analogies that you younger guys have never heard but for me, football is a war game and my favorite general of all time was General George S. Patton. His motto, his strategy???

ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!

Brees and the Saints O could put up a fight. It'll be tough for anyone though.

That Saints O has always sucked against the Seahawks. Plus Jimmy Graham is scared of those DBs.

A few notes from tonight's game:

  1. Seattle gets a huge edge playing at home. You can really see how comfortable they are playing there.
  2. GB had better find a Raji replacement because, right now, they are too weak up the middle to stop power running teams.
  3. GB had also better hope Bulaga's injury isn't serious, because Sherrod is going to be a problem.
  4. Rodgers is Rodgers. Best all-around talent at QB in the game, doesn't need good guard play, needs good tackle play, is not great at 4th quarter comebacks, and occasionally will pull a Favre/Cutler. He's not Brady, but he's the 2nd best QB in the game.
  5. Seattle's DEs and LBs are bigger problems for opponents than that secondary.
  6. Clay Matthew took home the Oscar for best actor in this one.
  7. I'm having a tough time trying to find a comparison for Wilson. He's not a runner like Cunningham, but he puts up Cunningham"ish" numbers. He plays a lot like Alex Smith, but he's more willing to throw deep and outside. Jeff Garcia with a bit more willingness to run, maybe?
  8. Harvin is a game changer. Every team's game plan should start with Lynch, then jump right to Harvin. The rest of that offense is just there.
  9. Better to be lucky than good, right Maxwell?
  10. The people bagging on Green Bay, and Rodgers, over one loss are overreacting like crazy. GB just played the SB champs, who are incredibly difficult to beat at home, and they did it in the first game of the season, when the 'hawks were going to be flying. As long as their injury list is normal, and doesn't include Rodgers, the Packers will likely be around at the end.
  11. That Seattle/Denver rematch is going to be "must see TV".
  12. I hope the Packers are suitably angry next week.

I didn't know what you were talking about so I looked the schedule up hoping it was the Jets. Jets at Lambeau after a humiliating lose. I love it.

3rd and 4 at SEA 45(1:27) (Shotgun) A.Rodgers pass incomplete short left to J.Nelson [M.Bennett].

2nd quarter...3rd down at Seattle 45...still in the game, in fact , with a great chance to put up points... Rodgers in the pocket, it collapses, he runs, he HAS THE FIRST DOWN right there for the taking...throws awkwardly to the sideline in mid run and overthrows Jordy Nelson....WHAT????? WTF WAS THAT???

That was a Mark Sanchez play. He's a good QB, won a Super Bowl. So has Rothlisberger. You have the chance to get 4 new downs YOU TAKE IT. That play was a brain lock and changed the game right there. Instead of at least 17-13 and perhaps 17-17, he gets ZERO.

Then the blowout in the second half.

Tough place, almost impossible to win as a visitor. I didn't think GB had much of a chance. I thought that Rogers would at least STRETCH the field with some mid and long range passing. He dinked, he dunked and he brain locked. It's the opener,so it's just 1/16th of a season that still has a ton of promise for GB but tonight was NOT one of Rogers better efforts.

Boring game. GB's defense reminds me of ours in year's past. Let's hope this is the year we turn the freaking corner.

Brady had that kind of mistake 2 years ago against the ravens (even though it was in the 4th for him), he had a chance to go for a 1st and he passed an incompletion. things like that happen even to the best. and despite this loss AR is top3 qb in the league.

I can't rid myself of the feeling that if you shutdown Seattle's rushing attack (Lynch/Harvin/Wilson) and force them to pass, they can be beaten. Sure, they are a defensive juggernaut, but I see question marks in their Offense.

If the Patriots retain health and protection holds up, I don't see any reason why Brady can't exploit the gaps in Seattle's D to beat them.

Reiss on "what the Pats can learn from the opener"L

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4767521/what-patriots-can-learn-from-nfl-opener

My take on what the Pats can learn:

1. The value of having lots of pass rushers. I'd love to see the defensive snap count, but it seems like Seattle always has swarms of pass rushers.
2. The value of having mobile LBs. They were everywhere, particularly Bobby Wagner. The combination of Wagner at MLB and Earl Thomas at FS is dynamite.
3. The importance of being aggressive on defense.
4. The value of offensive balance. Seattle ran ragged on Green Bay's porous run D; conversely, they took away most of Green Bay's run offense and made the Packers one-dimensional.

If I'm BB playing Seattle, I focus on stopping Marshawn Lynch and force Russell Williams to beat our secondary. Wilson is an excellent QB, but I'm not sure he has the accuracy and arm strength to be elite.

BTW, I'm more than happy for Seattle to look dominant and continue to be the heavy favorite. That's a hard road to follow. They're an excellent team, but it's a long, long season.

I am not ready to crown Seattle's azz right yet....they are obviously a dominant, physical and fast football team. However that style will come with injuries. Then we will see how good they are. Our team had to plug and play for years and we were frequently in the Conference Championship doing so.

We have had an amazing team, from owner to the GM to the coach to the 53 on the field. Let's be real here the Seahawks need (1) health and (2) home field advantage. If the other 32 teams in the league are as fortunate, the Seahawks, even as good as they are, are gonna have a tough go to repeat...the tests come in November and December...

Don't underestimate the 12th player in Seattle. Their D is helped immensely by the fact that the offense can't hear a thing. These stadiums that are built for crowd noise...well, it's simply cheating.

The NFL loves it because the fans go wild and it makes for excitement at the game, but it REALLY limits what opposing teams can do.

Beast of a D? Lets wait until they play a few games first before we declare the patriots defense a beast.

We don't have to wait for you to crown them because they are already crowned.

Until proven otherwise, the are the the team to beat.

As good as we think the Pats are or can be, they need to prove it.

anyone else other than me think the Packers are paper tigers? at least this year.

1. THeir defense stinks. They couldnt stop a wet paper bag last night. Almost reminded be of the pats defenses that let teams pass all over them and then hope for a turnover or to stop them in the red-zone

2. Rogers has only really 3 weapons. eddie lacey, jordy nelson and randall cobb....a far cry from when they had nelson, cobb, finley, jennings, jones and Rogers had his pick of who to pass to.
