Wes Welker suspended 4 games

So Welker has denied taking drugs recreationally or for performance enhancement. Clearly, he's lying about one of them.

For some reason I find it more realistic he's using PEDs. The Kentucky Derby story seems too ridiculous to be true (or Welker is really that dumb), and it started with PFT, right? So it could be BS.

10 pages? Really?

I wasnt posting at the time but me and my friends did give Harrison a bit of a pass due to our interpretation that he actually did take HGH for healing purposes.. that and he was so upfront about accepting responsibility for having done so.

Personally, its my opinion that the NFL should allow a doctor to prescribe drugs like HGH if they think its needed/useful while a player is missing games due to injury.

Plus Rodney didn't even fail a drug test, he was caught when they busted his supplier. I do look at Rodney's suspension differently, he was hurt, and tried (in the off season) to get better faster via HGH.

I can't blame any pro athlete for using steroids/HGH, with the money they get paid, it is worth the risk to improve your play and thus your pay. I find it dumb to throw that money away by smoking pot, or in this case dropping some Molly.

As far as the timing of the suspension, Welker appealed so the fact that it came out now, is because of the time it took to adjudicate the appeal. I'm guessing the original judgement may have been issued weeks or even months ago, almost certainly before he became concussed.

Why is it ridiculous? People use recreational drugs in all sorts of ways and this would seem to fall in line with that. Now, if you're saying that it's ridiculous because the Derby is an awful place to roll your face off at, then I definitely agree. It's hot, you have to wear a suit, and there aren't any beat drops or lasers. But to each his own, I guess.

You're here.

And quite disappointed by what I'm seeing. If it was the Jets, then I could understand it, but not those bunch of goons.

Fans? I'm surprised the headline writers at NFL.com don't describe him him as "Ex-Patriots receiver ..."

He's been baptized by Manning's ducks.

Don't get me wrong, much stranger things have happened.

Just seems like a questionable place for a celebrity athlete to pop a club drug, knowing there may be cameras on you, knowing you aren't going to be surrounded by people doing said drug, knowing the NFL could get you for it. I'm not sure why getting plastered wouldn't be a more sensible consolation if Wes was hellbent on getting F'd up for a horse race.

I would have to question Wes' judgement there quite a bit, if true.

Right, the Kentucky Derby does not seem like the best place to be doing some molly. It is one thing to do it at a club or a concert...but doing it with a bunch of people at the derby just seems weird. I don't know, maybe I am wrong and it is nuts there, but it doesn't seem like a good fit.

Did you SEE the video of him at the Derby. He was clearly blasted on /something/.

Fair enough. If you have a link to the video please post, because all I've seen are photos. I'm sure he was blasted. Molly just seems like an odd choice for watching horses run around a track. Everybody else is drinking.

I still have a ton of love for Wes, will always respect him for what he did here. Glad about this though cause hopefully it will make Denver lose a game that they wouldn't have with him in there. Homefield advantage is of utmost importance for us if we're gonna beat them this playoff go-around.

According to Rich Gannon & Co on SIRIUS NFL radio losing W3 means nothing. Denver is better than last season. Will defeat NE and go to the SB again.
Peyton Uber Alles!

Very simply, to answer your question I will repeat my 2nd paragraph:

"No, simply the timing of this seems highly coincidental to keeping Welker off the field for several more weeks. It sounds as if he lost his appeal 2 weeks ago (before the concussion) but nothing was announced until now."

The TIMING. If his appeal was decided to the negative 2 weeks ago (as has been reported), why was the suspension announced THEN? Why the delay until AFTER the concussion?

I'm just asking, not stating.
I just think there is no need to introduce conspiracy. It seems your argument is he failed a test, lost his appeal and the league decided to let him keep playing until he got a concussion, then drop the hammer.
This is a HEAVILY monitored, often disputed, and extremely contentious, collectively bargained testing and penalty protocol. The league is not going to arbitrarily enforce it, and go by the seat of their pants with implementation. Not to mention your conspiracy theory would require them to know he would have a concussion so they could wait and suspend him then. On top of all that, he would not have missed the preseason game, and would have been suspended for the same reg season games if they announce it any time during the off-season.
I think a flaw in your logic is using a report as a key to your theory as there appear to be conflicting reports all over the interwebs. I would find it, for example, hard to understand why Welker was shocked at the announcement if he already was told he lost his appeal weeks ago.

Looks like somebody spilled his drink highly doped into Welker's soda. I know a guy who can handle spilled drinks business pretty well.

I think he's shot his wad

He probably failed both, and both substances are banned.

Amphetamines, though, are listed as a PED and subject to the "one strike and you're out" policy, whereas MDMA is listed as a recreational drug. One failed test for a a recreational drug does not cause a suspension, the result must be kept confidential, and it makes you subject to future testing but no punishment on the first offense.

Bottom line, nobody can say that he failed a test for MDMA or not, since that would be against the rules agreed to in the CBA. They can say that he failed a test for amphetamines though.

But we don't know.
Amphetamines was 'leaked' as the failure.
People then made the ASSUMPTION that amphetamines were a result of being used to cut MDMA, which apparently arose from someone guessing what he may have been on when he was at the Kentucky Derby.
Its like 3rd hand speculation on a mountain of assumptions.
