Wes Welker suspended 4 games

Stop asking the question as if it's on the Patriots.

From now on it should be: Did WELKER make the right decision?

Answer: Nope.

Anyway, Denver is going to fall apart and go back to being mediocre in 2015 after all their VIP mercenaries call it a career.

Chargers, Steelers, Colts, Ravens, Jets, Texans, Broncos....

Who gets to be our conference rival next?

They all come. They all go.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Just kick back and enjoy.

Not meaning to honestly question the validity, no complaints here. Just pointing out the pattern lately.

Wondering if Peyton is starting to get mad.
Peyton: "Commish, what happened to our 'handshake agreement' to get me that second ring... We were changing the rules to make my job easier, and then you go and suspend my kicker and my second most trusted receiver?"
Roger: "A girl reserves the right to change her mind."

Maybe that big iCloud hack exposing celeb nudes was really Bequette and he got a hold of some of Goodell. BB leveraging the blackmail artist to his advantage? I guess you have to use every available skill a player has.

Yeah, as much as we're all kidding around, it should be noted that we have no idea what really happened.

For sure. Complicated by the observation that most athletes players lie their asses off whenever they are caught taking performance enhancing drugs (see Lance Armstrong...). It's always some kind of mistake...

Take Molly = 4 games.
Punch Molly and drag her unconscious body around on video = 2 games.

we must be related...jeezus, I was thinking the exact same thing..

I am not a fan of Welker per se, but don't have anything against him either. However, It just breaks my heart to see that some of these players destroy their lives through drugs and other volatile means.

He needs to face the punishement for his actions like any other player would and should when they break policies etc.

Hopefully he can get his act together and stop using. It would be nice to see him get healthy and stuff. I am sending out prayers for him and his family. Nonetheless, I hope he gets clean and I wish him nothing but the best.

Around the Web Welker's suspension has been averaging 5-6 pages.I
wonder how many pages if he was still a Pat?

Better a year too early than a year too late.

I think now we are beginning to understand why Belichick didn't bend over backwards to resign Welker. The kid is a dipsh--.

I'm not ready to say that I like Welker playing for someone else instead of NE, but I will admit that I feel much better about things after seeing the first year play out.

In a perfect world, Wes would have finished his career here. Unfortunately, that didn't work out.

I really like you man, you're one of the nicest guys on the internet. And I say this as someone who has never taken any drugs: I've never read anything nonbiased that made a case as to how MDMA is going to destroy your life.

I suggest reading up on it before assuming that Welker is going to end up selling his body in a back alley for a baggie of MDMA.

Here's an article that I think would be a good start:
http://theweek.com/article/index/24...rything-you-need-to-know-about-the-party-drug

I wouldn't be any more worried about casual MDMA use than I would be about someone eating too much trans fats occasionally if you're taking a 'body is the temple' reasoning behind why all 'drugs are bad m'kay'.

Obviously he wasn't trying to gain a competitive edge with molly. But the fact of the matter is he used a banned substance and got caught.

I guess that beats "the dog ate my correct test results paper".

I understand using chemicals for enhancement. While it isn't right it is understandable given the amount of money, fame, prestige on the line. It has to be tempting to an extreme degree to simply take XYZ and see your performance improve. With that said WW officially is a punk. Just another 'it isn't me, I'm not responsible, it's the system' coward.

The "system" may not be perfect or even well designed but it does list exactly what chemicals you cannot take. Yet this high paid athlete who makes this exorbitant amount of money based on the health and performance of his body is claiming he didn't know the chemicals he was ingesting contained a substance listed on the well established, well known banned substance list? And since he did take it, it must be the system that's wrong? What a punk.....

I'm sure there's plenty that disagree, and it's one of those things we're not supposed to say, but I don't care, I'll say it anyway.

My natural, genuine feelings about Welker now are that he's a Bronco, that he wears Orange, wears a Spaceballs costume during football games, and catches passes for Peyton Manning (the mercenary Denver version).

So I really don't care.

Anything else would be a forced act on my part, one of our American social charades where we say things we don't believe because it's expected, and pretend to give a crap about things we don't.

Welker is a Bronco. He betrayed Tom Brady in a way that would be considered a historical betrayal in any other sport, but he apparently gets a pass here, and why? Oh, because Bill Belichick was a meanie. The guy left to help Peyton run our offense in Denver for what we would of paid him here.

TL:DR I don't give a crap about the Donkeys slot receiver.

*braves the lettuce throwing with unapologetic defiance*

So do you think the Patriots were right or wrong to offer him almost as much money as Denver did?

They offered him more money twice and both times his agent advised against the proposed contract, which lead to a lesser contract in Denver...

The first time was prior to him hitting free agency and if I remember correctly they offered him 3 yrs @24 million dollars, the contract proposal he turned it down from the Pats was something like two years and 15 million he then went to the Bronco's.. his agents overvalued him.

Apparently the way Patriots do business is that the offers are take it or leave it, if they "leave it" the Pats move on..

I don't like the idea of Wes Welker getting banned for something he did at an event he attended with his friend Tom Brady. Notwithstanding his oddly rapid strength gains early in his career
There was nothing at all "odd" about that. He simply matured physically and became a professional athlete working full-time in a professional strength and conditioning program. His physical frame was pretty much a blank slate when he left college. If you're hinting that he did 'roids, nothing in his appearance or performance would support it.

Yeah, as much as we're all kidding around, it should be noted that we have no idea what really happened.

I'd be interested in hearing when the test was failed. Is that information that the NFL shares? The frequency of testing during TC is higher than off-season, as it is more cost-effective and less likely to identify embarrassing detections of weed and other non-performance enhancers, which are more likely to harm the NFL if found in a drug test than if ingested by a player. Unsubstantiated reports aside, I'd be more suspicious of him (perhaps unknowingly) taking an adulterated mental sharpness enhancer to help with the effects of PCS and get himself back on the field sooner.

FWLIW, I don't get all the moralizing. Failing a drug test is indicative of carelessness more than anything, whether that's taking a supplement that has QC issues, using recreational drugs, or not playing it conservatively enough in the performance-enhancing game. There's a given amount of certain performance enhancers that you can take and not get caught. Most well-paid established athletes have access to a pretty solid network of folk who can provide that information. If you don't take advantage of that information, it's like using poor technique to hold on a running play. Most everybody does it, but you get penalized if you get caught, and there can also be some arbitrariness in that process, as not everyone gets tested on the wrong day and not all safe supplements (or recreational drugs) are always clean. That's just the way it goes. Wes crying about it is the only thing that rubs me the wrong way.

The offer that DEN gave him was 2 yrs = 12 million.

The offer that NE gave him was 2 yrs = 10 million.

While the first year guaranteed money was more here in NE, the contract itself was not valued higher--which is what you seem to be suggesting. Denver gave him more money. Actually 2 million dollars more.

Thats accurate. In my view, I always look a the guaranteed money as the #1 thing players look at.

So stupid of Welker! I can never figure why anyone would swallow anything made in a basement by some drug dealer. The ingredients usually contain rat poison, whatever is handy to cut it with, the ash from his blunt, and that's the good stuff!

Obviously Welker didn't just suddenly decide to try MDMA as the first drug he has ever tried. He obviously is a drug user and is now subject to increased testing. Looking forward to his year long suspension. the only thing that really worries me is that Brady was with him when he did it!

I'm sure BB might have a talk to Brady about that. I'm also sure that Brady is going to have to answer a boatload of questions about it.
Not everyone buys molly from some random stranger. There are plenty of chemists out there that produce this stuff in pretty sophisticated labs using proper techniques and compounds. WW is a young millionaire, not some naive kid or degenerate junkie.

There are also plenty of people who have taken MDMA as their first "drug", though the vast majority have at least tried marijuana. MDMA isn't a very addictive drug and the negative effects of short term use are often greatly exagerated. The real short term dangers usually result from mixing it with other drugs. That said, the side effects from long term, heavy use can be pretty severe.

MDMA has a high success rate dealing with many marital/intimacy problems. It has also been successfully used to treat PTSD and other disorders.

Not when its only a 2 year contract.

Guaranteed money is more important for those 5-6 year deals.

The bad thing about all of this, for Welker, is that his $3m salary is now no longer guaranteed.

I have missed alot of the discussion.

Has anyone put forth that this seemingly squishy/technical violation may be a way for the league to quell/make sure that Welker takes the next 5 weeks (including bye) off for his concussion?

He and the Broncos seemed to be gung ho on getting him back on the field as soon as possible and the NFL certainly doesn't want the national $jhitstorm about player safety that it would create.

Just wondering.
