I'm honestly surprised that Swanson made the PS. Glad, though - if there's a rash of CB injuries, it wouldn't feel good to see him back there, but it could be worse.

I looked more at the 3-cone, 20-yard shuttle, and 10-yard split.

I think they run the 40 for the same reason they do the vertical it shows their explosiveness.

The short shuttle (and 10 and 20 yard splits) show explosiveness far more than the 40 time does. 40 times really only matter for guys who could plausibly end up sprinting 30+ yards without contact in a game setting. So basically skill position guys, secondary, and LBs.

This is one of the main reasons why I never understood why anyone cared about Chandler Jones' pedestrian 40 time. Remember, most of the people who favored Nick Perry over Jones pointed to his superior 40 time while ignoring that Jones was much better in the SS and also better in the 3 cone.

Update:
Returner Marcus Thigpen, TE Allen Reisner, OG Chris Barker in, QB McBLT, SS Kan Davis & (sadly)
CB Dax Swanson out.

BTW, LS Kevin McDermott, who recently had a workout in Foxborough, signs with the Donkeys' PS.

I liked Dax too and was happy to see him back. Agree with others that maybe he looked good because the guys he played against now work at Market Basket.
OR, maybe he's one of those yo-yo guys who's in and out several times before securing a spot.

We can still sign McDermott as our LS. Belichick has options for Sunday.

Don't write him off too soon. Some of the lockers of released players are still full.

Aiken tried out for Broncos but now back in Mass.

I've always felt that Aiken would be returning back to the NEP, but that's just my opinion.

Well if you're going to open a couple of spots on the 53 so you can claim players to at least get
a closer look at them before the season starts, then LS & a STer who can't play a real position
are the 2 spots I would leave open also.

can't wait to see that Dax Swanson on our PS...yesiree Jim Bob...that's one ultra important practice squader...uh huh...wait...wha????????????????

@DougKyedNESN: Worth noting that Dax Swanson and Kanorris Davis still have lockers intact in the Patriots' locker room.

I suppose Practice Squad members get paid depending on who is on the list on Game Day.

In any case, it saves a lot of time not to empty lockers of players on the Practice Squad or bottom of the roster rotation.

So following a week of transactions, I believe this is the current status.

The Ross Ventrone Practice Squad of the Week Update:

QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson
RB Jonas Gray
RB Marcus Thigpen
WR Josh Boyce
OG Chris Martin
OL Chris Barker
DT Kelcy Quarles
DE Jake Bequette
LB Deonte Skinner
LB Ja'Gared Davis

Light on DB's, but there are 12 on the 55-man roster (counting Browner; 11 without him).

Reports today that Quarles is back and the Tight-End-Of-The-Week is out (joining DJ Williams, Justin Jones, Asa Watson, Tyler Beck, Kyle Auffray, Ben Hartsock, Steve Maneri, and Terrence Miller).

No news yet on Quarles. Last year the Patriots made a lot of last minute transactions.
Does anyone know how long they can wait to make a transaction? 24 hrs. before game time?

He was reportedly in uniform today. Not sure why it hasn't come over the wire yet, but I take that as an administrative SNAFU.
